In our country committing suicide is not an offense and very rightly so. Once a person has committed suicide, no one can punish him.
But if you attempt to commit suicide and then survive, then it is punishable. It is an offense in my country. Do you think it should be punishable?

No, I don't think attempting to take your own life should be considered a crime. For someone to get to that point, they have got to already be in a lot of emotional pain and punishing them instead of helping them sounds unreasonably cruel to me.

I completely agree with you. Instead of adding, we need to help the person understand how to cope with and respond to the various situations occurring in their life already.

I don't consider it a crime at all when someone attempts to kill themselves and they don't succeed. I think they need professional help more than being in trouble with the law. I do believe though if someone commits sucide they should leave a note so we know why. The family is left lost and wondering "why" forever, why they killed themselves and that I don't think is right at all.

not unless they're endangering other innocent people while they make their attempt.
it is their choice no matter what the rest of us think of it.
otherwise,if they survive they need help not jail time.

Hi sagnik42,
Both sides of this question is very dabatable. Well it is the persons body and he or she can do anything with it. But in my opinion, I think that it should be punishable because if I were the head of your country and everybody comitted sucide, then wouldnt that bring my reputationo down? During war or a ressession, everyhing is hard on the ppl. Should all of them then commit sucide? NO, because then the country is ruined in my opinion. If you have a punishment behind attempt of sucidie it makes ppl think twice befor they do something. Thank you for this discussion.

No, I don't think it should be punishable. What are they punishing? How do they get punished? Sometimes if a person reaches out for help it can feel like getting punished because of the reactions of others. If a person survives, I don't think they should be punished, but perhaps, helped. Sometimes help can feel like punishment. Like if you have to go to a mental hospital. This is because your attitude is probably awful then. But because it is an awful place anyway, you are forced to make something of it.
Sometimes you will be made to go to a psychologist, here. I think.

It is an offense in my country as well. I think the committing of such an act should be taken very seriously. The person should be put in a mental hospital and should be helped. They are obviously in some type of termoil. Being in a mood to end your own life is a very serious thing. Ofcourse it is an offense.

of course it is a crime. it is not right to kill ourselves with our own hands it is also a kind of murder.what is the reason for it,the reason is the lack of confidence to face the problems, when a person avoid to face a problem it becomes a greater problem which leads him to stress and other mental problems and finally leads to sucide.to avoid this, one must be ready to face all the hurdles in life by all means.

Of courese, the answer is NO.
People who choose to give up their lives must be those suffer a lot. They find they have no meaning living in this world. It is terrible. They need warmth and understanding from people to get them back. How can you punish them for this. It is too cruel. If more and more people prefer dying rather than finding a way out. I believe there must be something wrong with the world we live.
