Staying up all night - how well do you function at work/school the next day?

What are some patterns you notice? When I stay up all night, which DOES happen on occasion, I tend to have random spurts of energy and blood-sugar crashes throughout the day; yo-yo energy if you will. I stayed up all night (unintentionally) and then worked a 12 hour day the next day (or, same day, if you think about it). Work was torture, particularly after about 4 hours of working at a steady pace, I just crashed, and couldn't FUNCTION quite normally. This is definitely our bodies' ways of telling us we NEED sleep! The worst part about that day is that I just COULD NOT fall asleep; it wasn't that I was out partying or staying up all night on the computer. I had ended up cleaning my room, writing, and listening to music because I couldn't sleep! When was the last time you stayed up all night (whether intentionally or unintentionally) and how did you function the next day?

I've been awake until midnight and sometimes until dawn. before I will explain about my job, I am an employee at the hospital,I also traveled a lot so I need extra energy. when I experienced what you experienced. the next morning I would eat a nutritious breakfast. if I'm getting tired because of working with constant velocity. I'll stop working for a while, drink some water and walked around my office for 1-2 minutes, then back to work. usually it works for me and keep me fresh throughout the day.

I don't really like getting lack of sleep. But is seems that is the regular occurrence with me. It is not intentional at all. I just cannot seem to sleep early no matter how hard I try. That is why I always het just around 5 to 6 hours of sleep each night. During the next day, I always feel lsuggish ans sleepy, esp. in the afternoons. I just walk around for a few minutes to wake myself up.

I have to say staying up all night makes you so tired in the morning that you have no energy to put yourself to sleep once you get over the sleepy stage. I have worked at nights a few years back and had a very hard time in the mornings since it was pretty hard to force yourself to sleep in the mornings when you can hear the chickens do their thing. I guess everybody gets into sugar-high mode then goes down and breaks it then the result is tired all day long is what you get.

I am a student and the exam is our bad Experience,it means we need all days and night to review.so...you know, the next day we go for it,and when that finished.I went home and sleep all day.

I always crash just like you when I stay up all night. My sleep schedule has been disturbed of late due to a nasty cold so I've stayed up all night a couple of times in the past week. Eventually, I did crash the next day and felt pretty out of it for hours before the crash but yet not quite able to sleep. It's a cliche, but getting a good night's sleep really is about the most important thing you can do to ensure you'll have a good day...I'd never go without sleep voluntarily!

I have a newborn and I am up all night a lot. Some nights, I can't get her to sleep until 5am. Just in time for my older kids to get up for school. :) Some days, it is really hard to function. But once I am moving and I have the coffee in me, I am good to go!! I then crash about 7pm once my toddler goes to bed. All in all, I would say I function well. I think my husband would agree.:)

I experienced it once and it is really hard because I'm not able to concentrate in my study. I was doing a project which deadline would be on the next day morning so i have to rush it so that I wont be able to fail in my subject. It really took me the whole night until morning to finish and although I felt dizzy I still go to school but i cant stay there for the long time because I felt that i will faint anytime so I decided to go back to house after I pass my project.

I must be old, because I haven't done this in a while. Last time I did this was still in university. And back then, we didn't have any energy drinks. I used to eat a teasponful of coffee, and down it with glass of coke. Some nights, even this didn't keep me awake. Specially if you had to study boring math calculations.
The following day or night, I would crash and sleep like 12 to 14 hours. So just my body could recover.

Nope, I haven't stayed awake all night for a long period of time now. But when I was still studying, I used to stay late till dawn (around 4 or 5 am) and had to go to school by 7am. At the class, I used to sleep in my chair. And damn, my head is like spinning and I cannot concentrate on my studies.

Last time I do that kind of thing when I was in my last year at school. I remembered that I have to complete eight, I mean EIGHT reports that is to be submitted the next. Sure I did manage to complete it, but I can't even tell whether I'm awake or asleep when I arrive at school. My mind was completely blanked out and I have large eye bags under my eyes. I do things without thinking all day that particular day, and boy I really kind of regret not sleeping at all. I had pinch and slap my face to stay awake throughout the day and the teachers were looking at me in some weird way. I guess it must be the face. When I got home I slept like I was never going to wake up again. My head hurts like crazy for the next 2 to 3 days, and I couldn't concentrate on my studies at all. And I've learned my lesson. The next time I had to do some shitload of work again, I put my sleep before work first, although that does put me in some sticky situation. haha. :)
