How can we help others during this holiday season?

Are there new and different ways we can help others less fortunate than we are this holiday season? I am thinking of going in the old folk's home and taking my grandson to visit oldsters this season. I recall the Rehabiliatory Hospital where my mother went when she went into hospis care at the end of her life. There was a little old woman that would grab my hand and speak to me when I came each day to set with my mother near the end of her life. I think my grandson and these older folks would gain a great deal. If they will let us. Is there something that you have considered doing that would be good for you and the person or place you plan this activity for or with? What are your thoughts? Should more people do things for others? Serving dinners at the nearest Homeless Shelter? Christmas carolling? Giving a gift to Toys for Tots? Etc. Etc.

I put my change in that pot ooutside the store where the person rings the bell . That is helping alot of people then. And its a good idea to take grandson there maybe he could sing something to them! they would enjoy that I am sure!

I'm not doing much. But I try to put in some change at the people with bells. And also I helped the homeless shelter for Thanksgiving and gave them money for meals.

I may not do as I wanted either this year. It is so nasty out. We will see. We can only do what we can do!

Christmas caroling is basically second nature to me. I applaud you taking your grandson to cheer the elderly. It really does brighten their day. I drop a few coins in Salvation Army buckets, I give blood. I visit the Hunger Site, and Free Rice, and the sites for free pet food as well. Everyone has something to give, and if they do so, they not only give a blessing, but they receive one as well.

What a wonderful idea. You are just the kindest person.I used to go to one that had a big golden lab in residence. This guy brought him every day to to go around and give and recieve attention from them all. He really lifted their spirits. He would actually carry 2 tennis balls in his mouth at one time. funniest thing you ever saw. He could do all kinds of tricks for them. I usually buy a toy or something at Walmart but havent gotten to it this year. also most grocery stores have food bins to contribute. i've done that nearly every year.

I will always try tohelp the homeless although i cant do it with alot of money vi try to do somethiong as i was there onse and i know what it is like around christmas time not spending it with family. Some of the homeless that ive spoke to probably could spend it with fasmily but havent spoke to them in years through just pure embarrassment of being homeless! I do alot extra for my mum as she is disabled and im her part time carer so at christmas i dedicate all my time to her. I think i would lke to do more as people seem to have forgotton that christmas is not just about recieving gifts its about giving, caring, Jesus and doing for those less capable than ourselves. It would be nice if everybody in this world gave a little bit back! ;)

We have them on the street corners with signs. I came very close to homeless. Living in a homeless shelter for a day or so until I was able to get some money together the moneys for a place. Waiting for my check from work after moving my ex's. I help the old gentlemen that live near me with wheelchairs and walking in the snow. Along with the rest.

I usually go over my used or unused clothes in my cabinet. Whenever I feel like I don't even need it that much, then I place it somewhere else where I pile them up for christmas. So I'd give them to strangers and street children.
