This one's weird but I thought I would give it a go! I need your views!

I was travelling on the bus this morning and an idea just jumped into my head and I thought that it would be great for a discussion! Ok, here we go! We know that technology is improving all the time especially technology in relation to science and medicine! Anyway, scientists are studying genes now and are becoming more knowledgable about them. Here's the big what if question! You've all heard of the comic hero spiderman? What would happen if a scientist mixed the genes of a spider with the genes of a human? I know that this is hugely controversial but would you get a half breed of a human spider? We don't know where technology is going but it is becoming more and more advanced all the time. I leave this one with you! Andrew

Mixing genes? I wonder if what would come out if you mix genes with a spider or any other insects?...would you still resemble a human or look more like a spider?..the possibilities are great but it I think it would take them a long time to perfect it, if the result they want is a superhero not a monster, don't you think? and for me, I think it would be better if what they'll do is bring the extinct species back to life. It would be great to see dinosaurs, like in the Jurassic Park. Well that's my say on the matter. :)

Well, I like the sound of that! I think that it would be a great idea to try and bring back the dinasours! I'm also wondering whether this would be too dangerous though! Dinasours ruled the Earth once upon a time and I just don't think that we would be able to co-exist with them, it's likely that we would then become the prey and I don't think I could live in a world like that! It would probably be an amzing fate to achieve though. I've seen the film Jurassic park and there were a few disturbing scenes in that movie and they could well become a reality if the dinasours were to return through gene experimentation. I guess this technology is still in its early phase but it will be very interesting to see what they come up with and how they improve things. Andrew

Maybe some tame dinosaurs that are vegetarians. Not too big so as to wipe out current animal species like our friendly cow. Sure, we can crossbreed a cow and a dinosaur using biotechology and walla! you have a milk making machine. I agree fully of bringing back extinct species like the dodo bird and the tasmanian wolf.

Why restrict your question only to a spider and a human? Science is playing with mixing of genes of so many different species that anything could be possible and we could name the species of the spider and human may be as spimun!!!

I like that new term that you have just created: spimun!. That definitely sounds like an appropriate word for a human spider! I think that gene technology could end up being very dangerous! No one knows how things would pan out if you start messing around with genes and mixing them up. There's a chance that we could start going down the road of mutant creations! I like the fact that the scientific community are looking for ways to get rid of serious diseases by using gene technology and I think that this is the only way that this should be used. I guess the years ahead may prove to be very interesting indeed! Andrew

Anyway I am not looking forward to these scientists playing with our lives!

Hey Andrew! How are you? I haven't heard from you in awhile! I thought maybe you went into hiding or something! LOL! A human and a spider? It certainly would be an interesting mix. The only problem is that because we are two different species. I can't imagine getting intimate with a spider anyway! Am I funny or what? This past Thanksgiving I thought about how wonderful it would be if they crossed a turkey with a spider. That way there would be eight drumsticks to fight over instead of only two! LOL! You're right about science, though. It's always coming up with something new. Always working on things to improve our way of live. Who knows what they having cooking up for us right now? It sure would be incredible to find out. I'm always watching Discovery, History and the Science channels. Have a great day, Andrew! Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Hey catwoman! Well, I'm always around in someway or another! I will never disappear off the face of My Lot! That's definitely a funny analogy regarding the turkey and a spider! I think that a turkey with eight drumsticks would definitely be very horrible to look at!. Yes, I love those channels as well and they are always giving updates as regards what it taking place in the world of technology. I dread to think what a rogue scientist would get up to given the chance to get on with some genetic experimentation! Well, it's nice chatting with you once again. Speak soon. Andrew

Hi Andrew, Such a great idea, but pretty dangerous too. I've seen enough movies about science projects gone wrong, and the results are scary. And while these are just fiction, the message is clear it's actually a warning - don't mess with nature or face the consequences. I support the rapid advances in technology for as long as it is aimed at improving the economy and livelihood and making this world a better and safer place to live in, but if it means changing organisms genetically to produce yet another organism without knowing what it will turn out to be, that scares me.

Yes, I suppose it could end up being truly shocking! We could end up with such horrible creations that we would eventually lose the plot and go crazy. I hope that the scientists only make improvements in terms of getting rid of terrible diseases and so forth. Only time will tell on this one! Andrew

of all insects, why spider? spiders are poisonous. i would very much prefer if it is a butterfly genes mixed with human genes. the result i think would be very very beautiful. we know how beautiful butterflies are, don't we?

I guess I came out with the spider as it is the most grotesque looking! I don't like spiders and it would be my ultimate nightmare if some crazy scientist was to start messing around with spider genes as well as human genes and then suddenly mixing them together to create some kind of abomination! Butterflies are very beautiful I agree but I don't think I would like to see the result of some experiment involving human and butterfly! Andrew

They need to be kill as they are half humans and animals and i hate them to mix with my races. definitely it is a no no for me. i hate the ideas it is only happen in fantasy..lol..

It would definitely be a shocking turn of events! Genetics is a great thing if it can help the human race otherwise it's probably best left alone! I have asthma and I would love it if there was a technology that came about that could remove genes in relation to asthma. Oh well! Andrew

Hi AndrewFreyne Spider-Man I am almost sure right now, someone somewhere, some mas sciencetist is splicing genes as we speak. I think research into such fields will go on until we create a monster. Have you seen that film The Fly Who knows what we are capable of ?

Yes, I've seen that film The Fly and it's a great horror movie. I would hate to think what would happen though if this became a reality. I guess genes are the real makeup of humans and by messing with them there could really be some nasty surprises in the future. Andrew

Then this would be the start of the superhuman evolution. Of course, we'll still have to go through the stage of experimentation where human bodies will have small spider heads, human-sized spiders with really small brains, and half humans and half bug parts for scientists who use other bugs instead of spiders. Then after this is perfected, where humans could climb through walls and spit out webs, we'll have a stage of discrimination for between mutant and non-mutant beings. There will be civil disobedience, and maybe even civil war. Then after the mutant liberation, where they are accepted as equals, they try to hold prestige and office. One Halle-mutant will win a first Oscar, and then another mutant will be elected president. Ooopps! Sorry, my imagination just ran wild. I guess you know what happens next after this.

Hey, that's a great imagination and when it comes to reality I suppose anything is possible! I think that gene technology is a very powerful kind of technology. I hope that the scientists always do the right thing and don't venture down the road of criminality and start creating mutant monstors! Thanks for your thoughts on this! Andrew

I'm thnking if you get the right director, good actors, and enough capital, you could have the beginnings of a really good Sci-fi flick. Interesting idea.

Yes, I think the directors and actors are already coming up with this idea! However, when it comes to reality I think that this would be a very dangerous path to go down. I'm a lover of technology myself but I guess the scientists have to be cautious about what they start experimenting with! Andrew

I think only time will tell as regards what takes place. There are so many horror movies regarding this kind of thing most notably 'The Fly'. God forbid anything like that takes place, it would be nothing but pure horror! Andrew. Welcome to My Lot by the way. Andrew
