What's the last goal you've set for yourself and did you achieve by the deadline

I've been thinking of a sentence I seem to be repeating here which is "when my husband and I get our own place" or "we hope to get our own place by this time next year." Thinking of these two sentences and the somewhat stress it brings made me also think of the others who may have had goals like this and achieved them around the time they wanted to achieve them.
My husband and I were recently married, and even before our marriage I was excited about getting our own place. We haven't yet, but we've set high goals we want to achieve. We already know what kind of place we want generally, and we know where we're going to put it and what would need to be done. What we don't know is how much it will all cost, and when we'll have enough saved up for a down payment.
Our first order of business is to get a car and I know I should be first thinking of that. I'm not though, and who could blame me? Sure I know it's going to be a lot of responsibility and a lot of money, but I think everyone knows what I mean by wanting to own our own place.
Truth be told, We're so picky that while people say "rent"... we won't do that. We'd rather just stay here, and get a place behind his parents, which we've already been told we can do!
Yay!
So what is the last goal you've set for yourself and did you achieve it by the deadline you set for yourself?
Any advice for us?

First of all, kudos to you and your hubs for setting such a goal and sticking to it. And that's the key.........stick to it. Ignore people who tell you you should be doing something else. It's YOUR life and your dreams and you are entitled.
As for me, I'm still trying to sell my house and get moved to Manitoba. We know exactly where we want to live and do with our lives when we get there. Real Estate was just not moving this past year. I have high hopes for next Spring though.......
The last real goal my hubs and I set was when we put our house up for sale in Alberta in order to move here to Saskat. The price my hubs set was $30,000.00 more than market values at the time, and our Real Estate Agent nearly.....no, actually she did, choke, when the hubs gave her the number. But he knew that our buyer would have to come from Edmonton and not locally, and that the price would seem like a bargain to them for what they would get for it. And he was right, much to the surprise of our Agent! LOL The house sold at full price and the buyers were from Edmonton. To date (three years later) the market value of homes there like the one we sold are STILL $30,000 or more less than what we sold ours for. LOL It really pays to have a strategy to achieve your goals.
Good luck with yours............

I'll make you a deal...............you buy your house next year, and we'll sell ours, and we'll do it in the same time frame.
Now your goal is shared (albeit in reverse, lol) and the next time your hubs (or mine) says 'don't wish too hard', we can smile a little secret smile because we know we are not alone in our goals and there is strength in numbers!

Wow, he was right on then huh! Well I know that the house here was foreclosed upon but that the in laws didn't know until it was too late. I think they'd of gotten a better deal, but think they paid about $90,000 which is what we'll be paying for our house when we get it. I've got such high hopes, hubby says I shouldn't, but I know it helps me to have high hopes as I find that I work harder.
Maybe next year? but then again I don't know if that's putting hopes too high.
Well hope you can get that house sold and move to Manitoba by Next Spring!

The last goal I set for myself was to get through 2009. When the recession started about a year ago, I calculated all our expenses and I was certain that the money will run out by April. I had to stretch and make ends meet. I am almost there. Just have to get through December.
The next goal I have set for myself for 2010 is to get another car to replace our van. The expenses of maintaining this vehicle is just not worth keeping it.
Sorry to bring a bit of cloud in your discussion which is supposed to be optimistic.

I can understand the recession is hurting everyone, and while your response isn't exactly optimistic you do have goals for yourself, and that is good. I hope the little bit you make from mylotting is helping though. Is it?

Hello cowgirl am sure that you have got a strong point here. I have had a seriesof things I would love to change and achieve but I never got to see the real picture until the later part of the year and when everything sem nice set to go, everything changed and went from bad to worse and thise dreams are just slpping away by the hour as the year is fast running out. The deadline I set myself never got to materialise but I came out stronger and more willed to fight more and hope for better days to come and am sure as the year runs out, am going to be a stronger person to achieve more of my goals and meet deadlines.

Sometimes we get sidetracked from our goals. I hope you can set a fresh course for next year, and good luck to you! May you achieve your wildest dreams and more!

My last goal was to further my education and I have been in school now for around two months. I just got in there and researched my financial aid options, talked to schools, asked questions and done it. It has been a huge change and not easy but so far I have a 4.0 grade point average and am loving it. I think the best advice I can give is research your options and don't be afraid to ask questions to as many people as there are out there to help you. Do what you want on your own time.

I think the feeling of being rushed is definitely not a good one. I've achieved some goals, and are setting more... I've got a lot on my mind about where I want my husband and I to be, and I plan to achieve by just hard work and determination.

I do hope you are able to get a lapptop and soon after achieve your goal of having a new job. I think it's a hard goal to work towards, and with the present conditions of the world's economy it's even more so, but don't put yourself down if you don't achieve it... Save your money, get the laptop and work towards your goal of saving money.

The last goal i set for myself was to quit smoking. I was able to quit smoking for 5 weeks but then for some dumb reason i went back to smoking. I have been disappointed with myself ever since that time about 4 months ago .....so here i am on Dec 1st and its my new quit date for my new goal. My goal now is to quit smoking and not go back to it. I hope you reach your goal you will enjoy your own place so muc. Have faith and patients it takes time , keep your goal and work towards it even if its little steps at a time.

Hi Happy2512-
I hope you can implement the goals you have for yourself and your family soon. It's always good to set goals and try to reach them. If I can be of any help on trying to decide how to implement said goals I'd be happy to help!

Not very similar to your example, but the last goal I set for myself was to get a job. I had quit my deadend one day a week job before I managed to snag a new job (my original intent was to get a full time job and then quit the part time one). So I took a week to myself to set new goals and one of them was get a new job before Christmas, which was met only a couple weeks after setting this goal (much sooner than I expected). It was mostly luck but I was proud of it nonetheless.

Oh I did not mean for the discussion to be solely based on say getting a house or car. A job is one thing definitely needed to achieve any kind of monetary thing, and I am glad you achieved your goals a few weeks after setting them. I've been in jobs I simply had to quit before, and have actually been out of work two years, but luckily am starting work again soon!
