You always keep some gifts on hand for just such occasions. And boxes of candy or fruit are easy to keep around for such occasions too. Or bath soaps and pairs of gloves and such things you can wrap up quickly for someone that happens to give you a present and you hadn't gotten them anything. It is a good idea this time of year. People are in the giving mood.

Hi Jugs,
I'll just ask the person what she wants and if it's okay that i just give her the money to buy for herself. If she's not comfortable then at least i have the idea on what to buy and give her. I know she will understand and appreciate my considering what she wants for a gift!

it's more of a shame of people will be expecting gifts from us. It is voluntary given and for us to expect is kinda embarrassing and not getting one. so better enjoy the visit that expecting something from us. LOL.

Hum...I guess it would depend on how soon they would be there. Run out to a local store for a quick gift? Or you could say that you are not finished??

Oh that is a dilemma, I will rush on a nearby mall to buy them one. If they are already coming in a minute I will just give those gifts that are not given. I used to give gifts like towels or pillow case or shirts that is ok for both gender to be used, shorts , mirrors, anyone can pick from it and I can give it to anyone. So no matter I forgot something for someone or prepared a gift for him I have extra gifts. i always have an extra gift with me. Hope that gift is still special for them because its the thought that counts.

Indeed, this is not something that ever happened to me, but usually I have a few things lying around that would suffice. I shop in January and July for items to use as gifts year-round. If I see something cute that is 70% off I buy it and figure out who to give it to later.

Luckily, this isn't something that happens to me. I write down a list very early in the year of everyone that I need to get gifts for so that no one inadvertantly gets forgotten and I fill in the list as I buy the gifts. However, were it to ever happen I would make them a quick card on the computer and print it up and also admit to them that I was running a bit behind with their gift that year because I hadn't yet been able to find the perfect gift.

Hello jugsjugs: I get a few gift cards from MY favorite places. I avoid getting them with Christmas or other special markings other than GIFT on them. That way they are good anytime. They come in handy for birthdays and other times when I need a quick gift. Those I do not give them away, I make a present to myself for a nice pick me up. The gift cards are great because they are a little more personal than money, but as good as money in the bank because you can use them anytime. Lots of nice places have them. You can get everything from dinner for two or more to books to ice cream to home repair to telephone calling card minutes. You can even give a Visa or American Express gift card that can be used anywhere for anything. I have gotten very good responses from gift cards. Even children love gift cards because they enjoy the experience of shopping with their own money.

What we do is to give them a twenty, or a fifty dollar bill and say that we did not know what to get for them. That usually helps. Else if we have gotten some gift certificates, we will give it to them.

Usually we do not, so we have to go to the credit union and get some money. Since they knew that we did not expect them because if we did we would have gotten something ahead of time, they really do not mind. I am sure if they just dropped in then they would have known that you could not read minds and know that they were coming over.

Gifts can be in any form. In cases of 'emergency' like the case of forgotten someone, I would just give them cash in red packets. The red packets are symbolic to us and we usually give cash wrapped in red packets in replacement of gifts.

gift sacks I keep on hand and plop my present in that. all set.
or dash to the store, get a gift card that can be used most any where and give that to the person coming to get their gifts.

Hit the gift card aisle, people love to spend money out and about so gift cards are a great way to help them do that.

We usually give gifts like books written by friends of ours, or things from the local coffee shop (gourmet coffee beans, and teas), and we always have a couple extra on hand. When we realize something's forgotten, we can always wrap just one more gift. If we have extras leftover, there is always an occasion during the year for a gift, and we can give it then.

At least get them a card and throw in a gift card if possible? I know most grocery stores have them now and I've warmed up to the idea of gift cards now--so convenient to be able to run to grocery store for something without having to use your personal credit card (or debit in my case :) on the computer.

Who hasn't this happen to. One option would be I run to the store to get something. Another option would be to give money in a card. Sometimes I have extra gifts around such as a box of candy or candles so I could wrap that up and give it as a present. Hopefully this won't happen to me this year.
