We host blood drives at the clinic I work in...and they "encourage" us employees to donate..I have b+ blood so I usually do..since it's less common..

Yes. I have been a blood doner for many years. I am A+. Since I came to the States to live I have donated plasma which was a better experience for me as I could go about my daily activities without any side effects (no strenuous exercises up to 24 hours as a blood doner)

What is the difference in what they do when they take plasma as opposed to what they do when they take blood? I've never given plasma before.

You are exactly right. It's not a lot to do when you consider that a life might be saved.

I really hate doing it because I have passed out before during a blood test. It's something I'm going to try to make myself do more often though.

I am A+ (which I joke is the only A+ I've ever gotten in my life!). No, I have never given blood. You have to weigh 110 pounds to do it, and I only weigh 100 pounds. Plus, I have Celiac Disease so I tend to be anemic. My husband used to give blood before being diagnosed with diabetes (he's type 1).

I have and I love it! I'd love to give it on a regular basis, but I just don't. :( If I hear about blood drives, I try to make it if I can. --- --- --- "I certainly think Britney Spears is the devil. The way she projects herself and the fact that she is so obviously vacuous. I think it's such a shame that she became so influential to very small children." -- MORRISSEY --- --- ---

It seems like they don't publicize those drives nearly enough most of the time anymore. They used to do a better of job of it than they do now, I think.

I always give blood. Everytime I am eligible. It makes me feel like I am doing my part to help those in need. Blood is always needed even when there isn't a national crisis. I am A positive.

I used to give blood regularly. Now that I am in law school, I need all my blood (I get kind of sick because of poor circulation, so it takes me a while to recover from giving blood).

I used to give regularly years ago. But I'm older now and take high blood pressure medication, so don't think I can give blood now.
