What do you think will happen to an old staff like CD? Before, Floppy disk is popular to us but now it's gone. Blu-ray is now overwhelming those old storage devices. What will be the next?

As people advance in the tech world they are working to make things a lot smaller. If you have noticed this progression over the ages from old fassioned vhs tapes to cd/dvd and then the smaller the better. Man has discovered digital is the way to go. So what will be next, there are already pocket-sized digital players and storage devices. In fact computer storage has been reduced to a thumb-sized chip. If things keep advancing in this direction as edvidanced above, then dvds and such will get smaller and smaller. I've seen a very small cd-rom I doubt it can get much smaller then that.

cd, vcd, floppy disk, and soon hd/dvd will be thing of the past and they will good as trash...as of now blu ray and hd/dvd are laser based optical storage media and it has around forever..cds/vcd/dvd and blue have something in common, they all utilize lasers of different wavelenght but the next generation will utilize a multiple layersto maximixe storage capacity..soon to be out in the market for next generation multimedia is TeraDisc-develop by Mempile, Halographic Versatile disc (HVD)-develop by HVD Alliance, Tapestry 300r-develop by Inphase Tech., Flourescent Multilayer disc (FMD)-still prototype and the last one is Protien Coated Disc-it sounds like nutriens hah? it is develop by Professor Venkatesan Renugopalakrishnan..

It all depends on the preference of the people. I think people would prefer CDs for the exclusive storage of small amount of data in which case Blu-ray disks will be a wastage of memory. Cost is also another factor, if Blu-ray disks become cheaper than CDs due to increasing demand then people wouldn't mind wasting memory.
