Recently I have talked to people and our pastor even talks about people that are really bad off, they are having hard times. These people are saying that they are struggling because of the troubled economy, they only have $10,000 left in their bank account now, they had to cancel their gym membership, they had to go into their savings to pay the repairs on their car. They also had to go into their savings to pay their credit card bill this month and to buy Christmas presents. These poor people had to cut back to only going out once this week! They had to not stay in a 5 star hotel on their vacation this year or they had to rent out their second home because things are so rough!Awwww! These poor people.
Myself and other people that I am aware of do not own or rent one home, have a car,a savings. It has been years since I have had a gym membership.I have never gone out every week and only been on one vacation and that was when I was a teenager.
Do you know people that talk about how poor they are, when actually they have more then most people?

though to add to this discussion,
rich people may be rich with assets but I bet they are living upto their means so when the economy worsens they are hit just as hard as the poorer people
most people have rent or a mortage and bills, just richer people generally have higher bills.
Both sets of people will prob have about the same level of disposable income. So don't pre-judge someone just because they seem rich they might actually not be as rich as you think.
Just my 2 pence worth.

I know a couple that has 3 nice homes,2 cars and go on vacation at least once a month.Where we are staying in a cheap one room hotel for over a year,no car,no medical assistance, sometimes no food. There are many people in this hotel and around this area that are homeless. There are people at church that talk about how bad off they are,but they have nice homes, drive BMW's and fancy clothes. That's my point.

It must be nice to even have any car or home to make payments on.Myself and other people that I know and have seen cannot even get that or a credit card.

yeah I understand your point and what you are getting at,
though not everybody who looks rich is rich, I have a fried that drives a porsche and looks like he is a millionaire,
yet he has his porsche on finance and lives in the red on his maxed out credit cards and to be honest works 80 hrs a week to have the image that he is rich
so first impressions can be mis-leading.

I so agree with you! And it really urks me when people say I have no money coming in and then get a few $100 and spend it on having fingernails and hair done in a salon instead of paying bills???!! I have a friend who does his all the time. I just don't get it. Oh, we only have $500 to spend on our child for Christmas this year... OMG!!! I wish I had that budget for ALL of my Christmas gifts I need to buy!!! Some people really do NOT know what it is like to have to really worry about money it seems.

I wish I had $500 for Christmas, even thou it is not enough.Another thing I do not understand is prices going up,but they have less people working for them. Why?

Aw! those poor people! if i could, i would be asking them what about the people that are living from paycheck to paycheck? my hubby lost his job in august and while i work part time (due to health reasons) and we get a bit of money doing odd jobs for people, it sure has been tough!

I think that we all have suffered, rich and poor alike. Those who can afford more but then have to cut back on expenses are actually suffering in their own right because they are having to cut back drastically or what they feel is drastically. We may not feel like they should complain...

Its all a matter of perspective, and living in a 'me' world..You should hear the fussing on my end of the spectrum..Folks getting food stamps, assistance with rent and/or utilities, varying degrees of disability (none of which I can get), complaining about the hard times and how rough it is on them..Like I said, a matter of perspective..All based on what one has become accustomed to having..

I think there is a difference when you are accustomed to eating and taking your blood pressure pills to being accustomed to going to your second home and taking your fourth vacation that year.

Oh,you mean they have the right to think they have it worse then poor people do because they have the right to have lots of stuff, where poor people do not have the right to have one home, food or medical assistance.
I believe I will quit hoping that if the church or other people try to help us.Instead when they do I will encourage them to help a rich family because they deserve it,not me or any other poor people.

I do hear those comments. I am paying a mortgage on my home, but we have absolutely no savings and things just don't seem to look any brighter. One week without a paycheck, would really hurt. A month, we would really be in trouble.

Oh yes. i have heard and know people like this. they claim to not have this and that, when in fact, they have more than I do or alot of the actual poor people do. I think they like to whine and complain to get handouts from people.

their idea of broke and mine are two vastly different things.

Hello!
Yes, I know one person, quite close to our family. she is all the time talking about how bad it is, about others, that she really understands other people, but i don't think so...she is all the time talking about some money things, like, I will go to have holidays, I want to buy a coat, I want that or this that is really cheap...or I just bought new boots, they were so cheap, but in real there weren't and these are already maby fifth pairs of boots...but I have only one unfortunately...One boots for winter time, one for autumn, for summer, I have more...:) so I feel really bad when she is telling how much she has, but of course she 'is having a money probems as well' - sorry, but I don't believe it... I am calling her a material girl in my thoughts...and hope that one day she will be in my shoes as well :)

Yeah, sounds like a material girl too me.Heck,I don't even have boots, neither does my daughter.Yet,she is so bad off that she only has 5! She said they were cheap, lol.Probably something like, they were $300 boots on sale for $150.When I can get boots or shoes it's usually buy 1 pair for my daughter,$19.95 and get my pair for 50% off at Payless shoes.Oh yeah, she has it rough, lol.

Not that I can think of, but I do remember being rebuked by a friend when I mentioned that work was boring and he pointed out that I should be grateful that I have a job.

Hi there Dfollin.
I have took the liberty of adding some tags to your discussion as i think this is rather a little rant about rich people, that have more than the average and are now complaining because they can't continue their frugal rich lifestyle like they used to.
I am not a rich person, and i don't really know persons like you talked about, so i can't speak on their behalf, but i believe all things you shared with us are possible and probably happen to many rich people not just them.
This economy crisis has affected us all, no matter how rich or poor and even if some have more then the others the effects are still negative.
Let's hope it will get better soon !

What my point is that there are people that think that they have it so bad and that they need help from churches, assistance groups, other people and so on.But,these people have nice homes, cars, medical insurance, food on the table which is more then a lot of people have.

Yup and they disgust me. Don't get me started on people like that.
