I have seen this show a couple of times in the past two weeks and really can't believe what I'm seeing? 17 Children???? Today she (the wife) said that she might be pregnant again..I certainly hope that this is a repeat and is not really pregnant again..What are they thinking about or what have they been thinking about all these years. She is a grandmother and is still having babies? I think its absurd and there should be a law..I mean, come on, enough is enough. Old Jim Bob needs to keep it in his pants and she needs to close up shop..She kills me too with her sweet little innocent voice and her holy Mary personna..I bet she has whips and chains and ties Jim Bob up when the cameras are off..And what exactly does he do for a living..Every time I've seen the show, which is only a few I know, but still, they are always at a petting zoo or loading up in a bus and going somewhere. I'm sure TLC gave them a decent contract but in these times, I know how difficult it is to feed just 3, must less 19 every night..and then there is all the other expenses associated with children,,clothes, medical attention, education (?), She supposedly home schools them I think, but what about college? I must admit that the kids do seem very well spoken and mannered but are the girls going to follow in Mamas footsteps and pump out babies for more than half their life..Think about it, she's been pregnant,,,ah,,,always..Probably dosen't look so hot in a bathing suit these days..and Jim Bob,,,well his haircut says it all..I'm sorry to be so critical, but the whole thing just makes me laugh..I think that they set a very poor example for American women as I don't believe that anyone needs that many children, and he has no job!!! I guess, Only in America...What is your opinion of having this many children and what do you think of this "sickening sweet" show??

In tamil, a language spoken in south india, there is a proverb "Have 16 and live a long life", whenever a new couple prostrates to get the blessing of the elders. People use to laugh listening to that, thinking that they are asking them to have 16 children. But the fact is 16 means 16 attributes you need to have a good life. Health, wealth, Intelligence, Courage, Wisdom etc. May be it is because of the mistake or mistaken to have 18 children. It will be like a mini-constitution.

I agree with you, well now its 18 kids and counting because the wife is pregnant with her 19th, they are very religious, she would never get into a bathing suit because she does not believe in that sort of thing. They are so extremely behind the times, and not like a normal family at all. I agree with you about how dysfunctional it is, and that no one should be allowed to have so many children. I will point out one TLC show that I really do love though, its Table for 12, they have two sets of twins and a set of sextuplets, yes 10 kids is crazy, but this family is normal, one of the sextuplets has Cerebral Palsy, the parents remind me of my parents, the family is normal even with the large number. I would recommend you to watch it, and let me know what you think.

I take issue with your 'no one should be allowed' comment. Last time I checked we lived in a free country. As long as they can provide a safe loving environment for their children where is the harm? So they live behind the times? It's not like they live without electricity, running water and cars. Can you tell me what you consider a 'normal' family to be. And why is that better than what the Duggars have?

I cannot find any good reason to have that may kids. She has destroyed her own body, and I'm talking about function, not appearance. She has uneccessarily contributed to a world that is already overpopulated. She has placed a drain on our economic system. There is no way those kids can have a normal life, so she is creating emotional issues that will span generations. And what's wrong with a man that would allow/encourage his wife to give birth that many times? Doesn't he care about her health at all? Think about this - if each person in that household spends an hour to get a shower, do hair, etc, there would have to be someone bathing almost around the clock! And how do you do laundry for that many? I imagine they are lacking in the hygiene department, eh? The whole thing actually disgusts me.

and me as well..really bad..Like I said in my original post, she has set a very bad example for young women in a time of struggle that we all are facing. I didn't think about the shower thing, but man,,your right..Can you imagine the electric bill in that household? The husband to me is a complete "dufus" and reminds me of Oppie Taylor from the Andy Griffith show..No responsibility and making a living exploiting his children..Thats not a man in my eyes..

Hi. I think I've read of that news yesterday (or maybe the other day). That was incredible...if they know how to be responsible parents. But to bear 17 children and counting...without having a job to support the family, I think that's being irresponsible already. By the way, the family who have supported my college education came from a big family as well. They are sixteen children in the family. But their parents have many businesses so all of them became professionals and successful.

that is really a bad thing? How do they plan to feed and bring the children to college? Those kind of people are the kind of people who don't plan to give good future to the kids. I don't want to judge them. But 19 kids is really irresponsible and shocking. i don't know what kind of parents are them, but I hope their kids won't live by example

if all 19 follow their parents example and have 19 of their own and it continues thru generations, by generation 5 the family will be 3.5 + million. Hell of a family reunion. When put in this perspective it is insanity. It's very doubtful it will work out this way. The numbers in our family have decreased over the years. While my grandmother had 9 (and would have had more had my grandfather not been killed) the largest kid count in my generation is 6 (or is it 7? who knows) but I have adult cousins (one is 50) who have never had children. I dont know if the duggars plan to send their children to college or not but I think that is more of an issue of religion than expences. they supposedly feed the whole lot of them for less than $2000.00 per month. And again they are debt free.

She has 18 now and I believe may even be expecting again. I personally can hardly handle the three I have and the thought of having that many children kinda made me a little queasy. You are right. Nobody NEEDS that many children. The Duggar's have that many children though and they SUPPORT them. They are not on the public dole. They have made their money in real estate. The home they live in they built and paid for. They live a debt free life (which is more than I can say for our family) and they spend quality time together. I dont think that she is setting a bad example for women. She takes care of her own. Still, she may be a bit crazy.

Hi terrile..Thanks for the post..I was not aware that he made his money in real estate and another mylotter told me he was also in politics for several years..I do give him credit for that and to anyone who can live a debt free life..something I'll never know..!! When I said she's setting a bad example, maybe I worded it wrong..I just don't think that anybody needs to advocate having that many "gifts from God", I mean even God took a day off!!! I do agree with you in that she is a bit crazy,,,actually shes a BIG bit crazy!!! Merry Christmas to you and yours..J

Well, you will now be surprised to know that Mrs. Duggar is now expecting child number 19! No joke, this woman is now having her 19th child. Is she insane? YES! Would I love to institutionalize her? Oh yeah! The Duggars are out of their minds! 19 Children! Why? What woman would willing put her body through this kind of Hell? I mean it! She has set the "Women's Rights Movement" back 100 years (Stephanie Meyer set back 200 years, read "Twilight" if you don't believe me). I could never have that many children. I will be lucky if I have one. Yes, children are very expensive and they require a lot of care. My cousin and his wife have twins, and I don't know how they do it. My grandmother was buying clothes for the twins for Christmas this week, really nice, cute outfits for them. She got the outfits on sale, but she still had to pay quite a lot for them. I told that I was by no means ready to have children, and she said, "I don't blame you for holding off on having children. They are expensive." Mrs. Duggar is a horrible example of what women in this country should be. I speak to all women on this board, none of you are baby making machines, and don't ever think that you have to be. If you don't want children and a family, then that is your choice and you stand by it! Although, I have to say, with all of the children she is producing, I wonder if any of them have considered enlisting in the military? U.S. Military could always use more troops. *Just kidding*

It's just that when women were working toward equal rights and equal opportunity, I don't think that this is what they pictured.

Hi rogue,,Wow, no I cannot believe it..Number 19 on the way..its getting really silly now..I wonder how she really feels about this or if her husband is dictating the "gift from God" thing to her and giving her no choice..I kind of get that impression of him. I would love to know what it costs them to run a house on a weekly basis. Clothes, Oh my Gosh, you and I both know what they cost..and I'm sure her kids are no different than any other kid in that they want the latest thing..Or maybe they've been "trained" otherwise..Like I said in my original post, the kids do seem like well adjusted kids but what we see on tv and what really is are probably two different things. All I know is that enough is enough. How old is she anyway? I know she is a grandmother..its time to give that body a rest..She's been pregnant most of her life..(What a horrable thought!!) Merry Christmas to you..

I always thought the "Women's Rights Movement" was about allowing women equal opportunities. It seems that if a woman chooses home and hearth over the corporate world she is tried and hung in the court of public opinion.

Okay so that is alot of children...However they are a family that has it together. They work together for the greater good of all, family or not. They provide for the children they have. In fact they are so self sufficient that they would last longer than many of us without conveniences. Here is a link to their website...you can know all about them...ask questions even..lol http://www.duggarfamily.com/ News: Michelle Duggar, pregnant with her 19th child, was rushed to the hospital this past weekend. According to media reports, the baby is just fine. It seems she has gallstones and will stay in the hospital on pain medication until the baby #19 is born. First "GrandDuggar" Mackynzie was born October 8, 2009 to oldest son Josh and his wife Anna!

Thanks again..Merry Christmas

I think it is sick to and completely unfair to the kids. Being able to afford that many kids is one thing, but kids also need attention. How could she possibly be giving all those kids that attention that each one of them needs. She can not possibly be which means her children are ending raising their brothers and sisters which is not one bit fair to them. She home schools so that her older ones can take care of her younger ones. That is what I think. I have 3 kids and one is having surgery on Monday and another one needs to physical therapy because she hurt her neck, and I have been doing so much driving back and forth and worrying and such I exhausted all the time, how do you do that with 17 kids? I think her and her husband don't she is churning out babies and making her other children care for them. Not fair to any of the kids at all.

ladym..Me too, I think its sick and unfair as well..and you are right, the older ones are raising the younger ones. The Mother is hardly in the picture at all, except when she's saying something stupid..Shes so fake..On a different note, I hope all goes well for your kids. Hospitals and surgery especially at this time of year certainly must be challenging for you and I include you and yours in my prayers..Hang in there,,God somehow gives us the srength to do what we don't think we can..just have faith..J

I just think its to risky in this day and age to have that many children. Looking at the divorce rate and especially with tv families. I know they seem on camera like the perfect family but seriously marriage isnt always easy. What if they suddenly had issues in their marriage and couldnt solve them. Think about how divorce effects one or two children this would be 17 or 18 times as bad. Scary thought. Also what is one of them became sick and couldnt help with the children or became disabled or terminal illness. I just dont think its fair to put the children threw the risks.

hi sulsisels, you have seen that now then how about with my example LOL.I have seen a couple who has shifted their business from other city to ours.when i was in 4th class her huge belly grabbed my attention(then they has two kids) and now i have completed my masters(post graduation) and she comes out of her home with the same huge belly and to my surprise all their children are girls(three triplets, two duplets and rest one at a time yet another delivery to go)and they have tried to educate them in our school but atlast they couldnt bare anymore and gave up their children education but that couple hasnt turned off their birth machine and i really dont understand coz they are really into having s$ex and giving birth and least cared about their children lives. They must planned big to aim the Guiness book of world records with most children that too girls .these kind of ones should be sent to china where you are not allowed to have more than children.gud day.

I think the one you saw is a repeat- lat I heard the Duggars have 18 kids. :/ That family makes me so frustrated! Why in the world do you have to have THAT many children? The human population is already going out of control, plus think of all the people that can't even have kids! If they wanted that many children I think they should have adopted- give a home to kids that already exsist and have no where to go rather than creating their own.

Hi olisaur I share your sentiments exactly..Adoption would have been the thing to do if in fact you have the need to have a family that size. So many kids have nobody to love them, nobody who cares. The real kicker today was when she was asked to tell about each childs birth and she would give one little remark about each one like, Johanna smiled, Jonathan seemed strong, etc. and thats it..She dosen't even know her kids if you ask me, how could she? If noterity is what she wanted, there are other was to achieve it besided being a human baby machine. Great claim to fame..I dropped 18 kids, and counting..Give me a break
