Why we should always be ready to question.

When we study the teachings of many of the great masters it becomes clear that they wanted us to ask questions, in fact they often asked questions of others just to get them thinking. I feel that we should never stop asking questions because that is how we learn and grow. Whether we admit it or not, none of us are certain of many things when it comes to life, death and what follows. So never be afraid to question anything. It is when we think that we have all the answers that growth stops, and arrogance begins.

Yes we should ask question but only to the right and appropriate person. If I wanted to know, for example, about spiritual things, then i would go to spiritual persons not to carnal persons, or else I would get a wrong answer. This is a very simple logic: if I have tooth problem I would go to the dentist; my television got some problem, I would go to electrician but if I am asking about spiritual matters would I go to astrologer or spiritist? No. Since God has created me, I would go to Him through prayer since it is the only tool to communicate with God. I will also read the bible since it is His love letter for us and I will also consult His ministers He has designated to take care of His flock.

Hi levite, Thank you for sharing your thoughts.I've found that sometimes we get answers where we least expect them, for examples it's not always the ministers that give the best spiritual advice as can be seen from some TV evangelists and others. If we take the Bible literally, we may sometimes get get bad advice as well. I question all ministers and would never accept their opinion just because they believe it, they are human too. I've also heard many interpretations of the the same passage from the Bible, so I look at them all and come to my own conclusions. Blessings.

Yes some ministers can give wrong advice or wrong interpretation of certain texts in the bible but there are those who are really "matured" in spiritual matters who can help guide us in walking with God. I have experienced personally that there are some ministers whose interpretation of the bible is based on his own understanding only. But when I ask God the light through prayer I found the truth in that particular text or verse. I believe God will not lead us in the dark in looking for the truth; the Holy Spirit is my best Guide and Teacher when it comes to spiritual matters. God bless you too.

Yes... we should never be afraid to ask questions and seek the truth. No one knows everything except for our Almighty God. People must know everything he/she wish to know, so it is a good idea to ask everything questions that you really want to know.

It is out of asking questions that we get to gain more and more knowledge in our daily life and work. A person who is good at questioning can be a better learner than one who does not question at all because with that question in mind, one will be likely to search for the correct answers to it for some proofs that it is right...

I have always been a curious fellow, in that I am very curious of have been curious of things and have wanted to know more, but for me I feel that my low self esteem is a barrier to asking many questions I have wanted to ask in the past for fear of being embarrassed by others or feeling that the question I had wanted to ask was kind of stupid or it would show me up, so I have stayed in the shallows and a lot of my questions have remained unanswered. It's remembering in the past how people have laughed at me because I have asked a seemingly innocent question and to them it was huge joke and so I quit asking. Or as a child I was patted on the head and patronized for my curiousity which was deemed as wrong. So now at 38 my core beliefs are heavily set in stone and it's trying to break them. There are so many questions I want to ask. In a way Mylot is a great medium to be able to enrich our knowledge and satiating our curiousities just by asking without feeling we are some kind of fool or someone who is just a 'nuisance' in persistingly asking or wanting to find out more.

We should always question! Many Christians will tell you to "have faith". What they are affirming in effect, is that every word of the Bible is truth. Permit me to go even further and observe the every word in the Bible could have been truth to those who wrote it some 2000 years ago. But truth changes over time. It was the truth at one time to state that, " what goes up, must come down." However the space age has clearly made this ancient truth into science fiction.
In this age of science, nothing turns people off quicker than a religion that declares every word in the Bible to be unquestionably true fact.

Hi barehugs, Thanks for sharing your thoughts and we agree, it is nonsense to expect someone to believe something because another says it's so. Such a person can never be a leader, he must always follow. It is when we question that those in charge take notice because they don't want people to question. Blessings.

Hi Pose, coming to the topic of life, I have 1001 questions, especially when it comes to my own life. Fate, destiny and a lot of other things have always been playing in my mind. Some I do know the answers, some I'm still searching while others I've been asking around and making my own analysis. But this is what I truly find and have come to hold it dear to my heart. Some things are better left unexplored because when we know the truth, it might hurt us so bad. So I think the term blessings in disguise is very good. Sometimes by not knowing certain things, we are able to protect ourselves from being hurt over and over again. But if it's pertaining to religious issues, I think it's to each his own. I have my own belief and so do others. But when it comes to hopes, dreams and life, many people's minds are running on parallel. I adore those people whom do a lot of soul-searching and they want to seek something or perhaps the truth for themselves to see. They are the strong bunch and willing to learn the truth for what it is, rather than believing hear-says. It's a broad subject and glad that you have dug it up. Different definitions for all of us, and like I said, this is a broad subject. Good one, Pose..

You are welcome, Pose. It's always good to have a good talk, and airing out views and opinions in the open. Humans are inquisitive in nature, and that includes me too. Although certain things I just left it to be, there are little details which cross my mind sometimes. Like why some people with bad intentions are well-liked just because they have money and power. And some, not all whom are with power and money could criticize others whom do not have the means for a materialistic life. And they would ridicule too. But some wealthy people I've seen, are really generous and they donate a lot. That's just humanely awesome. The bottom line is no one's perfect, but as long as we try to stay away from doing evil and bad things, that should be alright. Good talking, Pose..

Well you need to question any new knowledge that you get even from the masters of old because like you said that is how we learn. When we ask question it further helps us to apply what we know and test how well me know it .However there are some things that you may have to accept on the grounds of faith though when it is confirmed that teh source of information is legitimate

When we know it all (or think we do) not only does it stop the chance to become more, but it also makes us less desirable to other folks. People who come across as having all the answers don't really offer a chance for dialog and a lot of people like to discuss to learn more.
My Lot is based on that give and take. Life is based on it. While one may know a lot about one subject there is so many they may know nothing about. To close themselves off to learning about those other things is a disservice to themselves as well as those lives they could touch.

Very good discussion. Everyone should question. The only ones who do not want you to question are those who want to shield you from the real truth. I have heard so many times that God is all powerful and that we should never question God. God is all powerful but God is very very smart as well. He knows learning and discovery starts when one questions. God is never afraid of any question nor is He hiding the truth. He does want us to work at discovering it on our own. Wanting to know and to question go hand in hand. God has the sum of all knowledge. It will be a very long time before I stop the questions. There is so much I haven't learned yet.

I agree Pose. I always question. I want to be convinced. For me half hearted acceptance will not do. I was not always like this. When I was young, I did accept most of the things as they were told to me. But over the year, based on what I came across, I found several things conflicting with what is told since childhood, and what is right practically. So I started raising questions. Of course, I become obtuse by doing that. So I tend to bottle up my questions, and act as if I believe, when in fact my mind wants answers.

I agree, even reading the Bible. In fact, I believe a good portion of the Bible was meant for discussion. One thing that scripture teaches is that we should humble ourselves. Part of that is understanding that we are never too smart to learn. In fact, if we all took life from the approach of a learner, student, the world may actually be a better place, who knows?

u r so very right, arrogancy begins when we think,we know it all, that we are so high on a level that no one is at that if someone comes with something different from your beliefs and theory that u have studied and held on to for years u r not ready to listen,or ask questions about it,because u see where u r going to have to come down from that high throne u sit upon, and learn what u had no knowledge of,this is a very big classroom we live in the learning process never stops,so we should never be afraid to ask questions always be ready to,
