Can NTC really block a phone?

My brother in law was held up just recently and gone is his newly bought cellphone. It's a pity because he really saved up for it. I told him that NTC is able to block a mobile phones IMEI number. If it's blocked there's no way that phone can ever be used. Well, that's what i heard but i have yet to verify if it really works. So my questions are 1. Is it true? 2. Is there a way someone can unblock it and use the phone again?

YES, NTC can blocked a cellphone with the right IMEI number. Thats the answer to your first question. The second one is still YES!, you can unblocked the blocked cell phone really easy. This is done by simply changing one digit of the IMEI number. How to do it, that I won't tell you. Simply because its illegal.

Can a local cellphone repair shop do this? because if that's the case then it would be useless for my brother in law to report to NTC.

Hi ybong! It would be a Christmas gift to someone who took it from your brother in law. That is possible especially in the new technology that we have now.

That's the best way to accept his loss. The sooner he can accept that he was robbed the sooner he can move on. It's just a cellphone anyway. You can practically buy an second hand model for five hundred pesos. At least he learned his lessons that it's not the cellphone model that matters. The more expensive the cellphone, the harder it is to accept when you lost it to a robber. Thanks for your thoughts. Cheers!

i think i had an experience with this matter. once, i had my phone repaired in a local shop. i was not too aware about the IMEI before. but then, i was able to get some information about it and when i checked my phone and my packaging box of the unit, they don't have the same IMEI. so i went back to the shop and tell the techieman to put back my IMEI. and yes, he did it. NTC can block the phone, but people in the technical field who repairs cellphones can unblock it. so, it's useless to block the phone when there are still experienced people doing illegal acts.

Well if only we can use that intelligence to good use we would now be a develop country. I guess that's where some of us are good at, using their intelligence to rip off their fellow country men. But you can't really blame these guys for doing what they do. Because it's the snatchers whose to blame. They just hope that they will not get caught. Anyway what important is by brother in law was not harmed and he can always work hard to save for a new cellphone. Life has to move on, the sooner her forgets that he's been had the better it is for him. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

yep, they can... but since we are really good hackers, a local repair shop can easily unblock the unit.

well that's too bad. But i think it's worth the effort because if ever NTC blocks the cellphone, the current owner will still have to spend to unblock it. It may not be that much but i think that's the only consolation for my brother in law. Cheers!
