Do You Suffer From Acne?

I have, for as long as I can remember and I am 43 now! Over the years I have used many potions, lotions and anti-biotics. I had a bad experience on Roaccutane, the powerful drug treatment that isn't for everybody (certainly not me, I had suicidal thoughts, not good). If I get desperate I take Minocyne, an antibiotic but I have learned not to take them all the time as they lose their potency after a while. As far as facewashes goes I buy Clarins but I do use Botanics (a Boots brand) moisturiser for sensitive skin. No doubt I will try the anti-ageing version (plus their facewash) next as I find this skin-care range extremely good for the money. Cheap as chips as they say. I am not into "serums." I once used Protect & Repair by No.7 and I had to use Clinique Turnaround face cream to combat its nasty effects i.e. red face and blotches. It took me 3 months! How do you cope with your problem skin and does your face react to certain make-up? The only foundation I can use is Clinique's but it lasts absolutely ages and I refrain from using make-up every day.

Hi! Could it be the moisturiser itself that is causing problems for your skin? I am no expert but - from experience - certain moisturisers made my acne worse. If you try changing it to another brand your skin might improve. I wish I knew the name of that chemical that isn't good for acne sufferers that is in some skin care products but I know it's a long word beginnning with "b". Sorry to be so vague. I have found that the more natural the product the better (although aromatherapy wasn't that good for me) just creams and facewashes with botanical extracts in them...and I stopped using medicated facewashes as they were harsh on my skin...my face was TOO clean, if that makes sense. Good luck to you.

I have been suffering from acne for the past 4 years now, and I'm pretty disgusted and lost any hope of curing it. I tried herbal, cosmetic etc. I got my face cleared up by just following a green diet and drinking 15 full glasses of water each day for a month. But I couldn't get rid of the acne on my upper back. It's reduced quite a lot but hasn't gone completely.

Could you be allergic to something you wash yourself in maybe? Just a thought as Radox seems to be the best shower gel/creme for me. I've tried others but always go back to Radox as it has natural ingredients in all the range.

I use to have very bad acne starting at age 12 and tried everything. First thing I was washing my face with warm water and soap and then I went on to a bunch of the popular zit zappers only to find out putting soap and some of those things was the cause of my problem. Now I only take a wash cloth and cool water to cleanse my face and then I put on an appropriate lotion and I don't break out that way any more. I can't say too much about make ups because I only use a little eyeliner, mascara and maybe balm if I have chapped lips

That is a good point you make about soap. It can do more harm that good can't it? If I have to use soap I make sure that I replace my facecloth every day and also make sure it is wrung out properly. When I was younger I used a medicated facewash called Cepton and - when I think about it now - it didn't really work! :-)

I understand yo a lot, having acne is so hard and embarrassing at the same time. I also suffered from it until now and it get worst because I am pregnant right now. I hope that after i gave birth my body will be cleansed and I will not have acne again. I am living in a tropical country so it really triggers my skin disease.

Sorry to hear you have acne now that you are pregnant. Best thing to do is try not to worry about it (which I know is difficult) but thinking positive might help you. Have you got any natural remedies you can try out?

Hi! I had big acne problems until a year ago. People who says that acne is only a teenage problem is because they haven't suffered of it in their adulthood, and they're really lucky. I tried all kind of products and soaps with no results, until I decided that maybe hormones would help me. You might have guessed what I'm talking about. I went to my doctor to get a prescription in contraconceptive pills -in many cases adult acne is a hormonal problem, so they're known to help reducing it-. The ones I'm taking are really strong to be used as contraconceptives, as they have many secondary effects, but, they're recommended for severe acne, and in my case it completely dissapeared. Ask your doctor about it, maybe it can be your solution too

I'd forgotten about the Pill, thanks for bringing that subject up! I went on the Pill from aged 19 to 24 in order to regulate my periods. Besides the Pill helping with this I remember my skin breaking out, but only a couple of days before I started. I should imagine it was the hormones in the Pill that were causing this. Nowadays, there are different kinds of Pills a lady can take but I do not take them now as I am quite happy not to, although I do not think your comment was directed at me anyway. Glad to know the Pill has worked with you though. :-)

I've always had mild acne, that usually only affects my forehead. I've tried a lot of over the counter products, but never foudn anything that really helps. These days, I just wash my face with gentle soap every night, and it seems to keep the zits at bay, lol.

Which soap do you use? I know Clinique do a bar of soap but it's expensive and my hubby would probably use it and I've nowhere to hide it lol :-)

I still get a few zits every month. Usually more when I am stressed out. It can be a little annoying, but I try not to let it get to me. I usually use Clearasil on my acne. It seems to work better than anything. I would probably get more acne if I wore makeup, because I know that I would have a problem remembering to wash it off of my face every night. LOL Have a great day!

Hi! I like your comment very much, thank you. Reminds me of what I used to be like when I was younger lol. You are right about the make-up although I don't use make-up remover, just elbow grease hehe. :-)

Hi, Janey1966! I have suffered from mild acne. I will have acne that will come and then within that same week it will clear up. I don't have severe acne it is just mild. It comes when I am about to have my monthly female cycle. And it comes when I am very stressed out. I don't like having acne at all. I use Queen Helene's Cocoa Butter Scrub and it keeps my skin from breaking out with acne. When I was a teenager, I used to get acne frequently because of my hormones. I still get acne as an adult but it is not as much as I used to get when I was a teenager.

Hi! My acne seems to have a similar cycle to yours. A weird thing happened last year though...before I got married I don't think I got one spot on my face! It's like God was smiling on me although it was more likely to be the Clinique Turnaround I'd splashed out on beforehand (which included a rather fabulous facemask) lol. I have discovered Shea Butter lately. It is in the Clarins face wash I use and the Botanics moisturiser. Perhaps it is similar to the Cocoa Butter you use? Either way, it's amazing and I wish I'd discovered it 20 years ago! :-)

I'm lucky, as I never really suffered from acne. I have had a bit of skin problems, but when I went to see doctors about these problems, I was told that it didn't have anything to do with acne. I can remember exactly what was the problem, but I can remember that it was acne.

Hi Are you saying that you had breakouts due to stress? Yes, that makes sense. I was prone to stress more when I was younger and of course there were the hormones flying around but it is a lot better now that I am older. I will never have perfect skin though. Perhaps in heaven? Everyone is perfect in heaven! :-)

Yes I suffer form acne and I think that still being in my teenage years definitely doesn't do anything to help me get rid of the annoying pimples and zits from coming back out. I work in a Mexican restaurant and it's always so hot in there that you are sweating even if you are standing there doing nothing. I mainly just wash my face with face wash when I take a shower and then use some astringent or something like that to really get the dirt out of my pores. Still I have acne though so you probably shouldn't follow my methods of treatment. Lol.

I suffer from acne too and have since I was about 11. I am 20 now and I still struggle with it. I even have some scars that are left behind. Have you ever tried using Mary Kay products? I am a new beauty consultant and with that comes cleansers, moisterisers, day and night solutions, micro dermabrasion, all for samples to use at facials. But I use them daily for myself and I have noticed a huge difference in my skin. And Mary Kay has special cleansers which I havent used personally yet, but it is meant for acne and all of Mary Kay products are built for every type of skin. Especially the micro dermabrasion (I know I spelled that wrong). It is actually a process that people pay hundreds of dollars at the dermatologist every two months or so and you can buy the set at $54 which, by the way, is completely refundable if you use it and dont like it. All of my Mary Kay products come with that guarantee. Soo I am not trying to sell you, because if you are interested I would definitely suggest going to Marykay.com and look for a beauty consultant in your area. You can get a free facial and then see if these products may help. It has really helped me so far. And I have been using it of a little over a month. and I havent even tried the acne treatment yet either, that is just the basic cleanser and moisterisers. I hope this information might help you find what you need to get the right products that will help fight acne plus signs of aging and all of that :)

I am so sorry to leave my reply until now. Everyone is on different time zones so it is difficult to reply to everyone when I would like to. Anyhow, you ask me if I have heard of Mary Kay products? To be honest, I haven't but I shall visit the site you mention if my skin starts to irritate me more. At the moment I have it under control but thanks for your post, it may help others reading it. :-)

Hi Janey, My acne problem is black heads. I have had them since I was 13 years old. I'm now over 30 and still have them. I've tried proactive solution before I got married and it helped considerably. Now that I'm married and we have 4 kids the budget has gotten tighter so I've stopped using proactive and I'm now using Clean-N-Clear Black head treatment and it seems to be working just as good, just not as fast as the proactive. As far as make-up is concerned, I to use Clinque's foundation. I just love it, it doesnt cake-up and it does last a long time.

It's great that we have the Clinique thing in common which proves they must know what they are doing. I am also glad you have found an alternative to Pro-Active. I really like to hear these stories because they may be able to help others in the same situation..and that is what this site is all about. :-)
