Are you a conscientious smoker?

Conscientious...meaning are you aware of those around you when you light up? I'm a smoker. Have been for years. I was living in NYC when smoking got banned from public places and bars, things like that. It didn't bother me. When I wanted a cigarette, I told my friends to guard my drink and I'd step outside. It's a bit of an inconvenience, sure, but what the heck. I do think that a non-smoker should not be subjected to my evil habit just because they happen to be in a public place. I also don't smoke in my house. Yes. My own house, out of respect for the non-smokers in my family. I also have a "smoking area" for other smokers who come over. I never throw my butt into the street or out the window of my car. If I'm smoking outside, I put it out and find a trash can to put it in. I follow the rules. However, when I'm in a place that smoking is permitted, I smoke freely. It bothers me when the non-smokers in those places make a big deal about it. If smoking is permitted, then I should be able to smoke, right? I guess I may be contradicting myself in some way. I respect the non-smokers right to not have to inhale my exhale, but if I'm in a "smoking allowed" place, they should have the same respect for me. What are your smoking habits? Are you a die-hard smoker who thinks the smoking "laws" are BS, or, do you have a modicum of respect for those non-smokers around you?
