I am asking on a general term. I just would like to know if people smoke, why and what made them start. Are you aware of the effects on your health?
Despite this question, i want to share my own experience. I only took a one buff of smoke from a cigarette (willingly) when i was in college. This was mainly because of peer pressure. All my friends were smoking and they kept pushing me to try and try. Anyway after that time, i really hated it, and never touched a cigarette ever again. So i thought if it didn't feel good, and it wasn't good for your health, i just stopped. I appreciate your responses.

NO i don't smoke and drink at all. I remember in my school days we students tried to smoke and sell our notebook to purchase cigratte and one of my fathers friend told him and in evening he become very angry and i did not get my dinner. That was good lesson for me and i never returned back.

Yes, I smoke. Just like you my start came college. I was in student govenment at the time and we were in a heated budget session. Yes, I would say it was peer pressure and stress too. Yes, I am aware of the health risks. In fact, I just wrote an article for textbroker on the subject. And yes, I want to quit!

Nope, I don't smoke. That is one habit that I am glad that I never picked up. It's not good for your health as you said. I care more about having good health than being addicted to something that will help kill me someday.

I don't smoke. I have never tried it. I don't know if I will get addicted to it if I start trying. I have some friends who smoke. I hate the smell of the smoke. I also hate to go to pubs filled with smoke. My father used to smoke when I was a kid, later he realized that is not good for his health and family's health and stopped it.
I have seen my father with cookies in his pocket soon after he stopped smoking. He attended a retreat which helped him to that god hates smokers and decided to smoke smoking. When he used to smoke, my sister and I used to find cigrattes and destroy them. We got a lot of scolding from him for destroying cigrattes. Now, when I look back to those situations, it gives me a smile on my face. Now, I am married and lives away from my Dad. I miss him. I hate smoking.

I have never tried smoking. Not even a puff. Although all my college friends are into it, I firmly stand on my decision of not engaging in such activity. I do not want to try it because first and foremost, it won't do any good for me. And secondly, I do not want to do it for the sake of my friends. I believe that when I do not want to do something, no one can ever force me to do it. I also felt that pressure from them. They asked me many times to do it for fun. But I stick on my decision and I just asked them to respect me or else they'll lose a friend... lol. Since then, they never asked me to do it and they stay away from me when they smoke because they know that I hate the smell of the smoke.

I have to say no. I do not like the smell because it sticks on all forms so no thanks. Back when I was in college most of my friends smoke and whenever we would hangout I am always the only one who ends up choking with all the smoke. It is indeed bad for our health but of course people tend to go with what is wrong.

I don't smoke. My mom does but she's tried to quit a million times and has never been able to. But when I was growing up she constantly told me how bad it was and how she wished she had never started and if I started she'd kill me lol... In high school I actually tried it with a few friends just to see what the fuss was all about. I remember standing there wondering "okay, i don't really get the point of this...it isn't making me feel good or anything...it's actually a big waste of time..." and so I just never picked it up.
