Sheets

Hi all! I just thought I would start a discussion about a strange fact about myself when it comes to sleeping... no matter how hot it is, I HAVE to have some kind of sheet covering me. And not just a paper thin one...I have to have some weight on me! lol. So if it's hot out I cover up and turn my fan on high! What about you guys? Can you sleep without being covered? AND do you have any other weird sleeping habits? Thanks in advance for sharing! :)

Man, oh man, you hit the nail on the head ! I too have to have a sheet on top of me and also a fan going full blast. I didn't used to need the fan but have always liked to be covered Only recently since my heart attacks and with all the new meds I now take , I also have hot flashes, night sweats due to no more hormones--- The fan is my saviour and just bought a new set of sheets for myself :D

Oh no! You had multiple heart attacks? Are you doing better now?

Oh wow! That's tough! :( But it's good you're doing better! I can't believe you can't get any help after all that's happened to you! That's ridiculous and I don't want to know what they're rules are if they are that tough!!

Yes, I've had two heart attacks, both in May of this year. I have two stents one inside the other cuz the first one didn't do it's job--- I have lost 34% of my heart function but the only problem with that is I get really tired. I got turned down with social security disability too cuz they said I didn't qualify with their rules-------- I am appealing and have written a three page letter telling them a 61 year old woman cannot find work. An employer would hire a 25 yr old before they'd hire an old lady with heart trouble ! Still, yep, I'm doing ok and just glad to be alive.

I must have a pillow to sleep. It can be just a hand towel and not a real pillow, but without it I can't sleep well. I also cannot sleep with the bottom sheet tucked in at the feet. Uggggg Noooo un-tuck that thing. I go ballistic if it's tucked in. LOL It's the worst. I also find it hard to sleep without an animal in bed with me. I've always slept with my pets.

I've never even tried to sleep without something acting as a pillow, but I can imagine I wouldn't like that either. The bottom sheet as in the sheet you are sleeping ON top of, or the firs sheet that is covering you? The sheet I'm sleeping ON has to be tucked under the mattress, but I don't always tuck in the sheets that are covering me. I like sleeping with my pets too, but they usually scatter to different rooms so I can sleep fine if they don't choose to sleep with me one night :D They have 4 different bedrooms to pick from lol

Oo okay! Yeah, I hate when the sheets I'm on bunch up at the feet! It drives me crazy lol. I wish my sheets fit better too.

I mean the top sheet. My bottom sheets are fitted and stay in place. They don't budge.

Me too. I can't sleep without any covers on me, and it's best when I have a thick comforter. I also can't sleep without the fan on, even if it's cold. It's the ambient noise that I need.

Oh no! So you sleep covered up and without the fan if it's hot? I'm not sure I could do that. I don't like being really hot while I"m trying to sleep, that's why the fan has to be on, because I need to be covered up! lol I actually like the sound of my fan, sometimes it helps me sleep.

Ooo I misread what you wrote. I thought it said ' I can't sleep with the fan on.' Oops! My fault!! :P lol

No, I always have the fan on. Whether it's hot or cold. I need the sound to be able to sleep. I can't sleep when it's cold. I can sleep when it's hot just fine, but when it's cold I need to be able to pile on extra blankets.

Wow, that is a bit crazy! It is really hot here at the moment and I could not imagine sleeping with anything heavy on me, it would drive me nuts! I have a light sheet at this time of year and generally it just covers my privates in case my kids come in the room at night. I do not want to frighten them! We usually have our ceiling fan on low too most nights.

LOL! The last thing I need to do is suffocate myself while I'm sleeping!! But really I think I might feel to claustrophobic if I tried to sleep with a cover over my face...plus it would be really hot and uncomfortable!
• United States
13 Dec 09
LOL! Yes, don't scare the kids!!! My fan goes really fast so even if it's hot out I don't get to hot when I'm covered. If I have one arm out from under the blanket and the cool fan air hits that, I'm set. lol. Plus I don't cover up my shoulders/face if it's hot....hmmm...I don't cover my face even if it's cold! lol

Yes, leaving the face uncovered is definitely a wise move!

Wow, and I was thinking that I was weird for needing some sheet covering me when I sleep. I'm glad to see there are more people. Even in summer when it's extremely hot, I need to have something covering me or I will feel uncomfortable and won't be able to sleep

Its easy to tell! I always have some sheet to cover myself when I sleep. Whether its cold or hot! The sheet, i dont know why, is an important part of me when I am asleep! maybe a sleeping habit!

Maybe it's just the fact that being covered up is always associated with being in bed and sleeping O.o lol

May be, the thing that you just said is true! Or just a habit that started in my childhood!

Hi Lily. I can relate to sleeping always with something on me. Even clothing. I could not sleep once upon a time without clothing. I can now and also, I can sleep without coverings. It's just too damn hot these days. In the night though, I still have to have something on me....besides the fan that is. I never have the fan on full blast either....just the medium setting.

That is the same with me. I hate to be hot when going to bed or cold either one. I have to have a sheet on me though, even if it is layered with blankets on top or without.
• United States
13 Dec 09
Yeah if I feel too hot when I'm trying to sleep it's just uncomfortable. If I do feel too hot with the covers I have on me I either put an arm outside the covers so I'll feel more air form the fan...or I'll just lower the sheets a little, but I always have to keep the covers on most of me! lol

13 Dec 09
I am so with you on this one. I will be saying that it is hot & night & the whole house wants to know why I do not just keep off the cover so I will not be hot but I can not sleep with out some type of cover. I am not sure why but it drives me crazy to have to sleep without cover. I think it makes me feel more comfy so it makes me sleep.
• United States
13 Dec 09
I don't know exactly why I need to be covered either. A lot of people agree it's a security thing, but I still don't know my whole reasoning. Maybe it's just that it feels weird not being covered when you're in bed.

I'm the same way! I can't sleep without something covering me. My boyfriend hates it, he likes to sleep with free air over him, but I like to snuggle under blankets, even if it's hot!
• United States
13 Dec 09
lol! So your boyfriend sleeps on top of the covers while you sleep under them? At least with him sleeping on them you feel more tucked in :D Or does that extra sheet tightness bother you?

Not me. If I'm hot I throw off the covers, all of them. Unless it's cold, I usually sleep with only a sheet on me and it's got to be pretty cold for me to pull the comforter over me. My son is just like you though. He will have a sheet and a blanket over him and the ceiling fan on high. He says he needs the droning noise of it to sleep. It might be a little bit of a psychological thing with having the weight of a blanket over you. It's sort of a subconscious sense of security, sort of like a cocoon. It makes you feel protected. Me, I'd rather be cool! lol...

14 Dec 09
The fan noise doesn't bother me, I can definitely sleep without the fan on. Right now it's cold out so I only need to cover up, no fan. But when it's hot I'll cover and use the fan--your son is right that the droning sound is lulling. But it isn't necessary for me :) I definitely do feel more comfortable covered; you're right about it feeling like a cocoon! lol

Sleeping with cover - It is a habit to put on a cover while sleeping no matter how hot it may be
I feel protected when a sheet is on me, no matter how hot it is. I put the fan on full blast.

13 Dec 09
Yeah, fan on high and sheets always (unless it's cold, then no fan just covers!). And the fan's noise doesn't bother me, it actually helps me sleep :D Soooothing lol

I am the same way. It was so annoying when I was pregnant with both of my kids and ALWAYS hot anyway. It drives my husband up a wall. Another odd thing is that I HAVE to have the bed made before I can sleep in it. I can't stand to have the sheets all messed up. I just can't sleep. Strange, isn't it?
• United States
13 Dec 09
I have to straighten the sheets up a little, especially the one I'm going to be sleeping on top of (I don't like the covers bunched up under me)...but I don't have to make it perfect before I sleep in it! :P

Sheet!...and I thought I was the only one!! Yes having a sheet over me does make me feel comfortable while sleeping. I does not matter what the season is, in summer it is a thin bed sheet and in winter it's a blanket. Another possibly weird sleeping preference I have is that I sleep with the pillow over my head with just a small opening for my nose to breathe through. Good night sleep tight

12 Dec 09
No I have to have to some kind of covers light ones unless it is cold. Then I have to have thick covers and alot of them. L.O.L.

13 Dec 09
I Love bundling up when it's cold! :D lol. But if it is warmer out I have my thin bed sheet and then another slightly heavier cover. I don't use really thick comforters if it's really hot, but I don't have to have something other than the really thin bed sheet! :D

I have to have at least a sheet covering me when I sleep. If it is hot I will turn on the fan which make it a little cool so I need the sheet to kept me warm. In the cold season I have to have a sheet and blanket to kept me warm.
• United States
13 Dec 09
If it's cold I definitely don't turn the fan on, I just bundle up under blankets! But when it's hot the fan goes on High and I still cover up, just not as heavily.

I can't sleep without a sheet covering me!I regard the sheet as a defence which can protect me from the surroundings.I cuddle up in the sheet.Though it may be unbearable for some guys, for me it's comfortable.
• United States
13 Dec 09
Yeah, it's kind of weird that so many people see a sheet as a source of protection! :P I really don't know why I have to be covered when I sleep....it is a comfort thing but I don't know what it is comforting me from! lol.
12 Dec 09
Hi! i do the same thing! i think its like a safety/comfort zone thing, but even when its boiling i have something over me otherwise i feel wierd! the only time it doesnt matter is if im really drunk.
• United States
13 Dec 09
lol! Well I don't drink, but the only time I didn't cover up was once, when I was really really sick and I felt like I was boiling! But yeah...I think it is a comfort thing.
