Hey mylotters. This is a question which can be disgusting for some of you to answer, so if you don't want to answer, you don't have to.
I know that most of us burp or belch at least once a day, whether or not it's in public or private.
I do my best not to belch/burp in public to be polite and not to get embarresed. I have some college mates who think differently. At any random time during a course, he will just let out a very large burp and everyone will start laughing. Our lectures doesn't mind this as he tells us "It's perfectly a fine thing to do. It's something natural which our body needs to take out". To this, most of my friends burp on purpose during the lectures and they keep me vert entertained.
So my question for you is: Do you burp/belch in public? Do you think it's perfectly normal to do so?

Hi Borg,
There are burps that you can manage to let out even in public but those that sounds aloud seemed embarrassing in public. yes, you're right it's normal and i don't care about what they will say if ever i let it out and it sounded bad. i am humble enough to say excuse me for burping in public and they're fine--they don't mind at all!

It's kind of hard not to burp anywhere. If I do happen to burp in public I try to do it as quietly as I can and excuse myself. I do, however burp very loudly after pizza and a coke and can talk while I do it (which took a bit of practice) it's comic relief!! but even when I do that, I still excuse myself. I think it's funny that people are afraid to burp in public, it's one of those things that just sort of happen and since it's a bodily function just like other things the human body is supposed to do I know (and sometimes others) know that my body is functioning the right way!

Others have already said it, burping is natural. Certain foods and drinks create gas in the stomach than pushes up, forcing a burp that we have no control over, its nothing to be ashamed about or embarrassed, although I must admit feeling embarrassed myself burping in public.
But one can create a burp and youngsters do this to irritate people around them and can be very funny.
Sometimes, having eaten spicy food or to much food and feeling bloated, I would create a burp or many burps to release the bloating, but since I feel embarrassment very easily, this is something that I do not do in public.
Whether it is polite to burp in public or not, I think its a question of whether you are doing it on purpose, i.e. aimed to irritate others, which could be considered impolite, or whether it was an involuntary action over which you have no control and is not aimed at irritating or embarrassing others, so can not be considered being impolite.
In some cultures it is deemed impolite not to burp after a meal as the burp is indicative of your appreciation of a good meal.
We have a saying at home; "what does not pay rent, must come out", and this goes for farting as well.
I say, keep your body healthy, so irrespective of where you are, have a good burp or fart when your body is in need of it, but don't hesitate if a bathroom is close at hand to make use of it, especially with a fart (smelly).

Burping in public? There is no way I let myself burp in public! I would only burp when no one is around. We deserve a bit of decency!

You all would not believe this, but I have only burped once in my life, and it was a freak accident! I cannot burp! No joke. I seriously cannot burp. I was only able to do it once, and I never burped again afterwards. I wish I could burp. It really stinks that I cannot burp.

Yes of course it's a perfect thing a normal thing to happen.
We all do that and why hide it. As for me I really don't mind
if I do it in the public. I don't really care what people may say
and think of me.

HaHa.. sometimes when I am in a store and feeling silly, I will burp just to see the reaction. Some people laugh, some people give me dirty looks [not expecting me to be SOOOOO "unlady-like"] But I dont care. Better out than in and always gives my boyfriend a chuckle.

I am sure I can find a way how not to be heard by people. I might close my mouth and do it slowly or cover my mouth. I don't have anything against those who do it in public. But for me, I will make it as quiet as I can.

Unfortunately for me I do burp in public. Ahahaha. But I don't think it's disgusting. Sometimes I just can't help it. It's like gas build up fast and I burp. By the way im hyper acidic specially when I dont get to eat in time.
For me it makes me feel lighter when I burp a lot. It's a relief on a bloated feeling. I hate being bloated.
Instead of farting I would choose burfing over it anytime when were talking of doing it in public Hehehe

Burping is a very normal part of life, something everyone does. I know of a few people who don't mind burping in public, but I myself try not to. It's something that brings attention to you, and I don't like that. Plus once, when my boyfriend and I were in the mall eating at the food court, he accidentally burped [quite loudly]. We had an older woman who seemed to be watching her grandchild, come over and start lecturing him about being polite, and those things should be done at home. I was a little angry, and told her that it's natural, and it wasn't as if he did it on purpose. She was very miffed, so I also told her if she didn't like it, she shouldn't be eating in public, where other people would have different views on burping than her.
We were in a small argument until my boyfriend pretty much said "Hey, I burped, it happened, why fight about it? I'll just explode the next time I have to burp if there are such sensitive people around." And we left, after throwing away our garbage.
I don't mind when other people do it, however I try not to do it unless I'm in the bathroom in public or it's quiet. Haha, my friend will burp just about anywhere though, it's actually funny to see some people's reactions to his loud burps!

No, I usually don't do it in public. But whenever we are among the family members, or friends, when we playfully do this to show that we had a good lunch or dinner.
During young days, when someones steals the share of others, we use to do this and irritate them, meaning we stole and ate what belongs to them.
