Working out when you're sick

Is it okay to work out when you're sick? I know that when you're really ill, it's good to keep your body active, but not to overexert yourself, so maybe taking small strolls and stretching is a good idea; but what about when you're only getting a cold or an infection? Is it good to do a strenuous workout and keep your system up? I am starting to get sick (sore throat, congestion, etc) and I just did a pretty strong cardio workout, but I'm not sure if that was a good idea...
What do you think?

Hi ajgwfw: I just think the same as you do. We have to take care about doing exercises that we can do because of our health condition being sick, but if it's something that will not make us feel bad we can do it. I know it's sometimes frustrating to stay in bed all the day when you are sick so i don't think is anything wrong if you work out a little. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

Hi the weerouss: I think there is nothing wrong if you make a little workout as long as you feel ok you don't have to worry about it. In most cases i think that exercise it's good to make you feel active and that's ok for your own, but if you experience a bad symtomp you just should stop the exercises. Thanks for asking this question. Have a nice day.

As far as health is concern, working out is fine. However, there are times, we should put a little limit on that, hence, if you feel sick or if you are sick, perhaps its not better to take your work-out. Hence, you will feel to exhausted because your body will not be responding well in the body fit-out program that you have. Aside from that, your body resistance is not in the condition for the exercise that you will going to do.
Maybe, it will be best if you take a rest for a while to gain the strength then go back to the usual work-out again. In this aspect, prevention is better than cure.

The funny thing is that was something I was going to post just today because I lift weights and recently became sick and don't know whether to still go heavy or not. I think you should take it easy and stretch or do moderate cardio but nothing strenous.

theweerouss its not really such a great idea to do a heavy workout when you have those symptoms as your body is telling
you it is ill and it needs to rest, sore throat, congestion could turn into the flu which is more serious. You need to let your ill
body rest and recoup so it c an fight the virus that is making you ill. And violent cardio on an infection will bring on fever and perhaps vomiting.no listen to your body, you need rest to recover then once you feel better sure exercise like crazy but like your bodys symptoms be your guide. If heavy exercise was good for an illness in the hospital then the nurses would be exercising you like crazy but it is not good for you. wait til you are not sick. this is coming from a retired nurse.

It is not the best thing to exercise when you are feeling slight low because their is a good chance that your immunity can lower and your body is prone to attacks by viruses. Just make sure you get good sleep/rest and you should be fine.

It is recommended that if you're getting sick, such as an infection, to limit your work out retouine. Sometimes rasing your heart rate isn't healthy especally if you're getting conjested. Congestion can make breathing difficult, and work outs require a larger oxygen intake then if the body is at rest. You should limit yourself to warm up streaches, or a slow-pased jog. If you get tired, imidately stop, and be sure to rest and be sure you keep fluids handy. That will help you to recover faster.

There is nothing wrong if you will do some exercises and stretching when you are sick. But doing strenuous activities is another thing. It's not good to exert too much effort while you are not feeling well, it will only make your condition worse.

Hi, there! I know for a fact that it is very bad to work out or be very active evern when you have a mild cold. The reason is that your heart muscles are working harder in this time of illness and when you work out or just being very active you make it work harder which can cause serius lonterm damage and ever heartfailure at a very young age! Be careful!
