What would you do?
Lets say, you are walking down the street, and NO ONE sees you walking, no one knows where you are at, you could get away with MURDER right now... You see a black bag and curiosity gets the best of you. It is pretty heavy so you have to see what is inside. You unzip the duffel bag and it is filled with 10 thosand dollars [US, I know there are others on here not from USA, so that might be a different amount, thus causing a different reaction]
What would you do in this situation? Would you turn it over to police or just go on a serious shopping spree [hey, its the holidays :) ]
I am not going to respond because I dont want reactions to what I say take away from responses of what you would do. But I would love to hear What you would do and why and anything else you would like to contribute.

hi chelsgrrl69 as its in bills and because it is in a duffel bag I would assume this is illegally gained so I would at once turn it over to the police. if that money is marked in any way and you tried to spend it you would get yourself in really serious trouble so no go straight to the police.you know it is not your money. In fact it could even be counterfeit and that would really land you in prison for sure.

in my case, i won't bother to pick it up. or else i would just donate it to any charity.yes you're right no one in his right mind would just leave money everywhere.maybe it's just a bait. it's better to play safe than be sorry forever.

Very good and entertaining topic!
To be honest, I wouldn't turn it over to the police, no. I have to admit I would keep it. Times are hard right now.
I am a sharing person so I would give my family some and donate some also.

Well, first I'd check to see if it were counterfeit or not. If it is, straight to the police it would go. That would just get you into trouble. If it was actual U.S. currency It would go back to the house. That money would get put to a good use instead of ending up in some bureaucrats pocket.

Die packs are easily found & disarmed if your not in a hurry. Most crooks are in too much of a hurry & don't notice them being added to the bag. The timer usually isn't but for a few minutes anyways. More than likely it would have already gone off & ruined the money by the time you found it if there was one.
I wouldn't just go shopping. That money would be set back. I could then use my regular earnings to pay bills & such ( which require a bank account or checks ) & use the found money whenever I needed groceries or other out of pocket type stuff. It would then just slowly subsidize my regular budget & not all be spent at once.

If it was real money, as long as there was no dye pack, then it is basically untracable.. wait a few days, then go SHOPPING :)

I would turn it in. i would feel better that way. I would feel guilty about a shopping spree. That would take the fun out of it.

Hi chelsgrrl69
In my case. I believe in good deed but when I see the money like that and totally have no IDEA who's the owner. I will honestly take it home and use it for my self. But in doing so. Specially when you believe in KARMA, you have to accept the consequences of your actions.
I have a gut feeling that if I surrendered it to cop's, they will use it for themselves. Im not from US by the way. hehehe

It is hard to say what you would do in that situation if you have never before because it is truly a life changing thing [if you do not have that kind of money on a daily basis]
Thanks for sharing!

Awesome post.
Well, I guess I'd keep it. Finders, keepers, you know? Even if you find ten thousand dollars.
Although, I'd feel guilty, concerned about the source, etc. And now, would I share my finding to my relatives? This sort of stuff can get one x100 times paranoid.

Good point. You cannot REALLY say what you would do or how you would react unless you have TRULY been there and know all of the factors involved. Thanks for responding!

If I found this bag with all that money I would surely be tempted so I could pay off my bills and my parents bills. That would be the best Christmas ever. However, my head would then come to its senses and realize I have to do the right thing and turn it over to the police. It could all be marked bills that could get me into trouble. I do believe though if found not to be illegal money and know one comes forward after a period of time the money is suppose to be given to me. So I could hope and pray for that.

That would be an awesome christmas. A lot of times in life we are stuck in situations where we have to choose between our head and our heart, and that is the hardest part. Thanks for your response! :)

Ten thousand dollars, in cash, in a bag? I would surely turn it into the police, that is a very large amount of money. It could either belong to some innocent person who needs it, or most likely, it could be illegal money. I wouldn't want to get myself involved by using the money; the police might think that I'm the bad guy, or the bad guy might come after me. So my best bet would be to give it in to the authorities and leave it at that.

Wise thinking. Some might say that it is worth the risk because it is a lot of money. And others would say better safe than sorry. The authorities would be very greatful that the money was off the streets if it was due to illegal activity. I thought I read somewhere that if you find money or something, someone has so long to claim it, if not, you can keep it [as long as it is not "dirty" money] I do not know how much truth there is to that, I might have even saw it in a movie, but it cant hurt bringing it up.

What if I just keep it? No, not spend it, but just keep it hidden somewhere. Hide it to let it cool down a bit. If somebody innocent lost it, then you'd surely hear about it then I can decide to return it. If it were illegal and marked, and no news about came out, then just keep it for a few years. I'm sure it'll lcome in handy in the future.
Of course, I say this hiding behind the anonymity of myLot.

I'd try and do the right thing of course. I know I'm poor, but I wouldn't keep money like that. If I did, it'd probably have been stolen, and someone would already be looking for it. Of course calling the cops can be bad too sometimes because they might think you a thief. Which isn't good eaither. So um... doing the right thing might not be the best thing. So I'd be caught between a rock and a hard place.

It would be a very tough decision, but as long as you were ok with yourself AFTER you made the decision, then that is what counts.

I would keep it...I mean obviously it's illegal, which means that whoever it belongs to doesn't deserve it, right? lol. But seriously I think that I would keep it. That's enough money to be a lot for me, but not that much to make it a serious crime. I could have fun spending 10 large :). Cheers!

If I found a bag with $10,000.00 cash!!! Man oh man, I would
shop my tail off. Flip the money selling products at flea markets.
I would really stay at the Bally hotel and use my comp. points.
I would play dollar slots to see if I could win a lot of money.
I am usually good with money give to me or found money sort a speak.
I would be on cloud nine until the last $10.00 is spent up!!!

I am not going to mind the bag. Why should I touch the bag, if it is not mine. If you are opening only you will come to know that there is 10 thousand USD. Before that we dont know what is in it. It may be planted by the terrorists and may be explosives.
Again this valuables may be brought after killing somebody and the murderer must have left or lost the same. The investigators can easily catch us, if we are taking the bag. So it is better not to touch the unknown things. And I believe we should not use such easy money for our benefits.

If I found a bag with ten thousand dollars in it and it was like the situation you just described I would probably take it. I would donate at least a quarter of it to charter and give away a lot of it because I would feel like I had to pass on the good luck if some force had just magically blessed me with ten thousand dollars.

That is a great way to look at it jambi.
I mean, it would only be the right thing. If fate had just thrown that kind of luck into your lap, why not share it with others?
Great response! =]

Well, i will hid it somewhere, and wait for a while before i use it.
Because i don't want the real owner hunting me down just to find out that i've spent all the money XD LOL
i could get killed or beaten up badly if the owner got pissed off because of it.

It is money from a bank robbery because of the fact that it is in bills and because of the fact that it is in a duffel bag. There is no other way to think about this money. Therefore, I would immediately turn this money over to the police. Now, if I were to find, say 20 dollars or 100 dollars, I think in that kind of a situation, then I would put the money in my pocket and use it for something that I needed.

Turn it over to the police? Absolutely not. Though not many will agree with me, yet whether it had been gained through illegal means or belonged to somebody dangerous, I would be willing to risk it for a bag of cash worth $10,000. Like you said, nobody has seen me and the area is completely abandoned apart from me. I could think of A LOT of things to do with that money, and handing it over would be the very last on my list

Hello chelsgrrl!
Hmm ill think,it depends on the situation..If there is an identity card in it,ill search something for this man..And depending on that ill choose wisely..If he looks a normal man ill give his money back, and he will give me maybe 1000$ for giving them back, but if the person is not looking "good",ill take some of the money and give the other back..Or if i keep the money ill become crazy, because of my conscience..But if i`m in a bad moment,no money ill take everything, just ill say i ve found the identity card and search where to go with the money..
Happy day - joro1best
