Does any one look at the stars any more? It seems to me that people do not have time any more to look at the night sky. That's too bad! They are missing one hell of a show. Not to mention, how it help us contemplate life. Or make us think how insignificant we are in the vastness of the universe. What about you? Do you look at the night sky? What do you see? What do you think about while looking at the stars?

I am always looking at the night sky, even when I don't have a telescope with me. It is just so fascinating. I also don't understand how people do not have much interest for this. When looking at the stars, I think about everything that we do not know about the universe and how much there is to be done. And also how we can not let such opportunities to learn about the beauty of life go.

Yes, I do look at night sky. I'm an astronomer. I work with huge databases of galaxies. However, I've worked using small telescopes to make some kind of vulgarization of science. In general, the object which has much impact is the full moon for the public. We can see the mountains, valleys, etc, even using Binoculars. But, there are other objects that are quite nice and using small amateur telescopes you can see them very weel, like jupiter, mars, omega centauri, sombrero galaxy, etc... If you don't have access to any of these instruments, you can still contemplate the night sky, you can go to the countryside and see very clearly the milky way, the pleiades, large and small magellanic clouds, venus, mars, etc... by naked eye. It may depend on your location (north or south hemisphere) to see these objects, of course. Cheers.

I joined a astronomy club last year. And I have gone to the mountains where are far away from big cities to see the sky. And I have watched some deepsky objects. And I also use a QHY8 CCD. It was great. And I saw M1 with the help of the CCD. Sometimes when the weather is great. I also look at the stars in the center of the city. But because of the light pollution , I can't see many of them. But I can use my binocular. And sometime I will borrow a telescope from our club. To see more stars , I can use my camera and a 50mm lens with f1.7 . And I feel very comfortable when I am looking at the stars.

hi ben, i once had a National Geo publication called " The Mysterious Universe".On one of the pages there were 4 photos(paintings) side by side. The 1st one showed the Solar system with all the 9 planets going in orbit around the Sun.The 2nd showed the Milky Way galaxy with the Sun as a non-descript star right on the fringes of the galaxy. The 3rd photo showed the Milky way as one of a cluster of 12 galaxies known as the local cluster. The 4th showed the local cluster as a small dot amongst hundreds of galaxies spread throughout the Universe.
After seeing all these 4 pictures in sequence, my ego was shattered completely, as i realized how insignificant i was in the vastness of space and was smaller than an atom. This very soon propelled me towards spirituality and God.
Yes everybody should look skywards and contemplate it and only then will they realize where they stand. If this realization hits them then there will no more be any wars, fights, quarrels and other negatavities.

when i used to be child now i am young of 22 year old. i used to read poems in my language about stars. i still remember some poems about stars. poet has so crafted the poem that i had to go to the roof at night and had to stare the sky for hours. i used to count the stars. and during counting i used to sleep. i am pursuing my engineering course and now so busy that i have no time for stars. i got my job even then there is no calmness in my mind set. i want to do more and more and want to achieve more and more in life. this is not my single person story but a story of whole world. i hope you might have understood what i want to say. but i still remember stars of poem and will watch with some one in life hahaha
happy mylotting

Wow, what an image I got! It would be wonder to be a fly on a nearby tree listening to you read your poems to the sky. I do hope you make some time to see the stars during the course of your education. I remember when I went the the university for my studies. I would go out to the ball field or a nearby park to look at the stars. It would help me to relax from the stresses of school work and interaction. Thank you very much for your response and hope school is going well for you.
