Do you ever consider working for yourself?

I have always thought some day I'd work for myself. But the years go by and I just can't come up with the right idea. I also see how hard life can be for my husband who works for his own business. And I like the security of a salary coming in every month.
Did you ever dream of working for yourself? What did you want to do?

I never really thought about working for myself until a few month ago. I mean growing up, I was taught to get good education so that I could get a good job. So I studied hard in school, thinking that if I do well in school, I will do well in life because I would have a good job. But I realized that with school and college and everything, I'm going to end up putting myself in debt first in order to get a job just to pay off the debt. I mean, I'm still going to college and planning on getting a degree but I realized that jobs today, just aren't enough. That's kind of how I got to where I am now. I'm still in college, but I have a backup plan; a plan B for my future in case college doesn't work out. I'm running a small business on the side while I continue with college and I run my business whenever I have time. It's not something that I contantly run 24/7 so it's not strenuous, and that works out perfectly for a college student like myself. For the past few months, I've given a lot of thought about working for myself. I thought of how wonderful it would be to not worry about going to work at a certain time and wasting my hours at a job where I'm making money for the CEO of the company who don't care about employees when it comes to money. I'd rather spend that time on me because I know that as I get older, I have less and less time to spend with family and friends. I mean, jobs are okay if you want "quick cash" but if you're looking to secure your future or just have more time with family and not worry so much about your finances, I think businesses are the way to go, though I know that not all businesses are equal. You just have to find the right one =]

That is just the problem... what to do?
I've also wanted to work for myself, and keeping my own time so I can do other stuff simultaneously. Plus, there are government incentives if you worked for yourself, like tax writeoffs.
Unfortunately, I couldn't come up with something that would be a niche, so money can be earned.

That's the problem, isn't it? You don't want to start a business without differentiation - it's too competitive to really make enough to pay your salary.
