Uses: Television is a wonderful invention of modern science. With the advent of television life has become more interesting and enjoyable. Before its invention we could only hear speeches and listen to songs and dramas through the radio. But now we can see the singers, players, artists on the television screen.Sports lovers can witness live-cast display of the world's best games and sports.Through television we come in closer contact with other parts of the world. It is a powerful medium of mass education. From a housewife to a farmer working in the field, everybody can improve his or her knowledge and television helps us to change the ways of living. It is television that brings the whole world before our eyes in a small room. Abuses: There are some dark sides of television too.It is making people idle-particularly the students and the youths. Students become addicted to television serials and program-mes and neglect their primary duties.Over and above, television films and serials are presenting a lot of violence and their impact on the young minds is very harmful.Eye-sight is badly damaged for watching too much television. Are you like television?

...Hi babu10, I think television, like the internet has many things to like about it, and nany things to be wary of. as you say. The points you make re very valid. Television extertains us, can educte us about so many things, other cultures, countries, people. You can take armchair vacations in your living room, no cost except maybe your cable bill :o). I love my game shows, my movies, my educational channels, my tennis and golf games and so much more. There is so much to see, I have not explored half of the available channels on my tv as yet. Then there is the problem as you mentioned of sedentary bodies, you can really get complacent and caught up in watching tv too much. You have to try to balance your life if you can, that's why sometimes I will cut the tv off for hours, just to prove to myself that I can do it and I can. I figure if the eletric goes out for a good while I would suffer less, if I got myself used to not watching sometimes, I think that is a goood thing. One other thing that is harmful about tv is the radiation that is emitted, it may be within a certain range but you don't know what the long term effects wouldbe until some study come out about the cause and effect of the radiation dangers and illnesses. In the meantime I'll try to sit far enough away to not cause too much harm to my sedentary body. Take care.

I've actually never been one to really watch much television. It is definitely something that if I didn't have it , I wouldn't miss it. In fact there have been many times in my life where I have not had it or even a means of watching movies for entertainment. I'm alive and well and I didn't suffer any long spells of boredom or anything. It's pretty much like everything else in our lives. Moderation is the key. Almost everything is ok if used in moderation.

I love television but I can go without it, I have in the past when I couldn't afford it. I love watching sports and movies on my flat screen TV though, there's nothing like it. My eyes are already shot from birth and not having health insurance to get them checked out, I wear glasses but I get constant headaches everyday, even if it's just a light one but you need money to go to the eye doctor and it's something I just don't have right now. TV is a great source of news and entertainment and a lot of people can't seem to live without it. When I was without TV for a short amount of time, I read about 20 books, it amazed me how much more I read, exercised and did puzzle books without TV. I wouldn't stand I'm like a TV though by any means.

Yes,it is a part of life, but with the invention of computer,we are getting less time to spare in front of television set.Watching TV plays an important role in our daily lives. It is one of my favorite hobbies. Almost everybody watches TV some time every day making it perhaps the most common hobby in modern society. It brings us a lot of benefits. Watching TV can increase our knowledge of the world, give us information to improve our lives and provide a lot of fun. People learn many things through TV such as economics, history, geography, and culture. Many TV programs provide the latest news of domestic and international events. Watching news every night on TV is many people s most important routine.Find the right channels, and you will have programs of education. If you are a conscientious student, the TV set will be a great aid to you. Watching TV is an indispensable hobby for everybody. . Today, many children spend too much time before the little screen, ignoring their studies, outdoor activities and even their families. Watching TV has become part of our lives. TV, as a convenient communication tool, is very useful for us in many areas. Various programs fit everyone s need, like cooking and exercise to keep the body fit. Nearly every family owns a TV and watches TV programs. We should teach the kids to spend their time wisely with other hobbies and outdoor activities. Nothing is more entertaining and relaxing for me than watching TV after a whole day of study. These kinds of programs always help us do better in our daily living. There are many programs to teach us about such things as home decorating, home renovating and carpentry. It is not unusual to see the people and places totally different from your own anymore because people can see these things through TV.

Wasn't there a study a while back that dis-proved the whole 'tv damages eyesight' thing? Well not so much dis-proved as... made redundant. They proved that while yes it can cause damage if you sit in a dark room a half a foot away from the screen, that even then it couldn't cause any noticeable damage in a human lifespan? Secondly, despite that I never said firstly. I don't believe for a second that violence and whatnot on t.v affects people in a harmful way, even younger people. I grew up watching it, and it's been in my videogames and even in my books. I've never once thought about actually trying any of the violent stuff I've encountered in these mediums. But then again I also don't believe TV is 'addicting' either, so the only negative attribute I actually agree with is it is more often than not viewed from a stationary position. I'd also note that the area the 'tv and videogame violence/addiction' crap started up, was when spanking started to become socially unacceptable. Hmmmm... coincidence?

No actually a lot of people growing up don't watch too much television anymore. it's now been taken over by the internet as the number 1 provider of entertainment for young people. at least where i'm from. I know of at least a few people who don't have televisions and never wathced it growing up because their parents don't want them to be addicted. Most people are too busy to watch mut and want to be more proactive. but me... on the other hand watch way too much tv especially when doing homework.

HI! It was, but now it isn't just because I haven't got any TV. I use it only to watch movies and some news, but the news become so commercial and disgusting, that I am really happy, having no TV. And the movies I download from the internet, so I really don't need a TV!

I think that tv, while entertaining and sometimes informative, is a big time waster. You start off with one show and before you know it 3 to 4 hours of your life is gone watching pretend people get on with their life. I finally disconnected the cable and reconnected with my fam. I don't miss it. If there is something I REALLY want to see I can find it online or on dvd. My life is fuller without tv.
