Which mode do you use to take photos?

Today there are more modes of the digital camera. I wonder which mode you often use. Usually I will just use the auto mode. As it will set everything to suit the environment and therefore the photos will be nice. Sometimes if I set a wrong mode, the result is very bad.

Sadly my digital camera gave up during Summer, I am really annoyed as I wanted a photo of me with my blond hair and it suddenly gave up! The only way I have now of taking photos is my mobile phone which is not ideal, I should really invest in another digital camera which is also useful when you are selling stuff on Ebay! I like to have a camera with not too many gadgets on it, I like it plain and simple, if it gets too complicated or too technological I give up!

I never think a mobile phone can take a good photos. Perhaps it is time for you to buy a new digital camera as your Christmas gift

Hi my friend You Less. I like to keep my digital camera on the auto setting because it usually gives me great results. I try a different setting when I am trying to photograph fireworks. I haven't got good results with fireworks yet. I will keep trying.

I like the auto mode - I have only an old fashioned camera but it is really good and I can choose modes for different purposes. One of the best is the way to take pictures of moving objects with very fast shots, like sports pictures and pictures of playing children. This only works without flash - it is for outdoor photo mostly. This works even if the camera shakes.. Have to buy a digital camera soon. It would be interesting to learn to use it..

My old camera is a Canon Eos 500, I think. But it is rather expensive to make the printed pictures or a CD - so I might buy a digit Canon one day. Maybe it is easier to learn to use it since I am already familiar with my old camera..

In most cases I also use auto mode, but when I have to take some photos for some papers, I will change to use the best for it. You know, there are so many options for us to use based on the situation we take a photo. Happy posting, youless.

Your camera is a very clever device, but auto is very limiting. You will rarely get any variety into your photography, and in the situations where the camera can't cope properly, or when you want a particular result, you will be stuck with the "standard" picture. Portraits and landscapes are better taken using Av mode with a small aperture set for portraits, and a large aperture for landscapes. Flowing water often looks amazing when photographed at a slow shutter speed, or "frozen" with a very high shutter speed. You control the shutter speed in Tv mode; that's the mode for action shots, too. Spot metering mode allows you to be very selective in where the camera meter takes its exposure reading from, and you may also be able to control whether the camera focuses just when you press the button, or tracks a moving object. there is nothing wrong with using auto mode, buut you will never become a "real" photographer using it.

To clarify the comment on apertures: a small aperture number means a wider aperture opening and vice versa.

hi there youless, same here, I also use auto mode most of the time mainly because just like what you said it automatically adapts to the environment and another thing is because im too lazzy to actually adjust the settings and choose the right moe for a certain event..hahaha

I just use my video camera. It records on to mini DVD disks, and I use those in my computer. I can pause the DVD and capture a still shot, so I can make movies, and then take still photos at my leisure. They turn out very well.

Like you, I normally use the auto mode feature most of the time when taking pictures. I have tried to experiment with different settings lately, especially when taking pictures at night, but for some reason or another the pictures just don't turn out right. Oh well, at least I can just delete them. Not like with cameras of before that only took film. I remember wasting perfectly good film with my Polaroid years ago with night scenes and such and that stuff ain't cheap! So we've come a long way when it comes to taking pictures no matter what setting we use, as we can choose what to keep and what to delete without having to get it developed first. Happy mylotting!

I have the similar experience. Even if I use the night mode, but the photos are not as good as auto mode.

I use digital for everything, 35mm just doesn't do it for me. I try to play around with the mode to see which works best. I have a camera phone as well so its fun to see how much I can capture with that one as well.

This is quite funny! Digital cameras have been around for a long time now but I only bought my first digital camera three weeks ago! I guess I have got to keep up with the times! I have been using auto mode and I think this is the best option as it sets the appropriate configuration automatically for you. I like the fact that this thing also takes an hour of video footage if I want. There are so many different settings on digital cameras and I'm just learning about all the settings on my own camera. That's one thing I like about my camera...when I set it to a mode it comes up on the screen what that mode is for. That helps me out a lot. Not so much for random pictures but if I can take a planned picture, it helps.

I always use the auto mode as it adjusts and shoots. I have a facility both digital and optical zooming which helps a lot in taking video clips of birds in flight.
