What do you do?

I worked retail for over 12 years straight, until 2008. I left my job then to raise my kids. Since I quit my job, I have done numerous online sites to earn money. In September I decided that I needed to do more then be on the computer all day making pennies. I needed to actually "raise" my kids and spend time with them AND make some money. I became and Avon Representative and I love it. I still do sites online but it's not the only thing that I do now.
What do you do to make money besides MyLot? What is your "job"?
I still classify myself as a "stay at home mom" or "work at home mom" as my job title.

Hi camomom,
I work in retail and have for the past 15 yrs.I also make incense burners on the side. When my girls were young, I did the "work at home" role. I did a lot of daycare and also worked as a carpenter laborer on the weekends....a job where I could usually bring my kids along to. I also cleaned apartments after people moved out of them...another job that I brought the kids along to. I also worked part time in the evenings at a local store when my husband could be with the kids.

Hi camomom,
Oh, I also sold Avon on the side. You can make quite a good chunk of money with that if you have enough customers. Teens are great targets. They usually have money and they love to spend it on things like that. It really is hard leaving your kids to a sitter and the cost of day care is not usually worth it unless you have some really high paying job. Oh and yes, I do still have a link on my profile. I also made some pretty decent money just taking in a bunch of school kids in the morning and seeing that they got on the bus. They were usually fed and only needed a place to wait until it was time for the bus. I would also take most of these kids after school for just an hour or two.

I'm still building my customer base but I probably get a new customer every campaign (every 2 weeks). I don't think that's too bad.
I've thought of doing the kid thing but my own kids keep me so busy that it's hard. We also don't have buses in our area so I would have to walk them to school. That's too much with a 3 year old and a 1 year old.

I did know that you sold incense burners but I had forgotten about it. Do you still have a link on your profile?
I think I'll get a "real' job when my girls start school. That will be atleast another 2 years, until our youngest can go to preschool. I'm hoping my Avon business will pick up soon so that I don't have to go out and work.

I got 2 sites on my profile that could bring you around $40 if you work hard.
But these sites hardly could help you actually raise your kids. I know there are so many successful stories among the internet saying that they are making $2000 every month, but they put many years in effort to build up their network. You need to invest in order to generate more money in the future. I don't recommend people to invest unless you are really sure that these sites are safe to do.
Besides making money online, i suggest you to get a real job, even a part job could make more than that. Wish you the best!

I do have a real job, being a mother and I'm an Avon representative. They are both full-time jobs.

I never said that I wasn't able to afford staying home. I'm asking what others do out of curiosity not because I need a job.

Besides being a "forever student" (I've been a student since I was 3 years old when they sent me to kindergarten, then school, high school, college, master, and now I'm following Ph.D. classes), this year I've started working as a Research Assistant in a research center from the college I just finished. It's pretty good for now, but It's not a steady job - we get paid from research projects, so we live from a project to another. I'm set for the next two years, but I don't know what will happen afterwards.

That sounds like a great "job" but it does seem scary that you don't know what's going to happen afterwords. I guess none of us really knows where we'll be in 2 years though. we all just have to kind of take things as they come. Good luck to you.

Well, I have two in-real-life jobs (one at Macy's, the other at a Dry Cleaners, both part-time) and so I find it hard to find time (along with going to school full-time) to even come online anymore. But I do know of a few survey sites that I've been paid by before, and I will occasionally log on and make some money on those. I don't know how anyone can really, truly, honestly survive on ONLY doing online sites. I mean, there are definitely a few good ones out there - but I never thought enough to supplement one's income.

Sounds like you do okay for yourself. Have you ever thought about selling products like Avon or Mary Kay? You can sell online and never have to leave your house to do it and there are ton's of companies that do this now. I know for Avon it's only a 410 start-up fee. I also know that Liveops.com is a "real" work from home job. 2 of my relatives do it as their only source of income and love it. All you need is $50, a computer and a land-line phone. Just an idea.

HI camomom, I was an avon rep' at one stage but it never helped me much so now am on the lot as often as I can be and do surveys, they may take time to do and you have to wait til you have earned enough for a payout but when that comes it is worth it apart from that I don't work due to ill health...LoLo

Besides my first job at a grocery store I've been doing housekeeping at hotels for 17 years.
Now for the last 6 I do housekeeping at a hospice.
I really don't like to clean all that much but I like being my own boss when I work so when I do HK nobody really bothers me all day.

I like being my own boss too. That's the best type of job to have. That's why I love Avon so much. I can work or not work and nobody can tell me what to do.

In this economy I bet it is hard to find a job. I know in our area there are little to no job openings. That's why I became my own boss as an Avon representative. I LOVE it and you don't have to have experience in anything to do it. Someone your age would be a great salesperson. They have a new line called "mark" that would appeal to your age group too. You should look into it. I'm going to friend you here and if you're interested, please send me a private message. You can also check out my online store from my myLot profile to sign up or get more info about doing it.

I am still a student, so i can say that im still dependent on our family income. Though I try to help by doing odd-jobs during semestral breaks, running errands, typing jobs and part-time research assistant. so i guess im a full-time student and part-time sideliner.

This is the 1st time I join some online making program (myLot). I never expect that they really pay for posting. I hope I can earn more so that I can give up my job. Is very hard to become an employee. To have own business is always flexi hour.

MyLot won't pay you enough to quit your job but YES they DO pay. You could try to sell Avon or some other similar venture. That way you can make your own hours and you decide how much time you want to put in. You can check out my online store from my mylot profile if you want more info about selling Avon. You should also check out www.chacha.com. They are a good paying site where you can make some decent money. Good luck to you.

Before childrean I worked in a office doing secretarial job... Of course I basically hired oters... I pulled the applications of the people that were qualified and picked who should go in for an interview!~ Then I had my four children and stayed home with them... 20 years! during that time I would take the kids with me and we would weigh potato trucks for the local farmers! Two months out of the year.. but it paid for christmas! Then my husband at the time had his own business so I did all the paperwork for them! Then I needed to get back on my feet... started at a lil motel doing house keeping... worked up to kitchen manager and basically make sure all the motel stuff is done also.... we have 55 rooms and a restaurant and bar!

Have you ever thought of doing something like data processing from home? And how old are your kids because if they're in school you might be able to get a job through the school system so you're working the hours they'll be in school. It's not an at home job but its something that will get you great benefits and you'll be getting out of the house which is needed.

Nope. I'm happy doing what I do. My stepson is in school but my other 2 are too young for school. I started this post out of curiosity. I'm not looking for work but thanks.
