have you shopped a lot this christmas?
like for gifts? or for yourself?
with the ongoing crisis, it is wise to spend money wisely or end up with a big debt on the new year ahead which isn't good.
as for me i juz budgeted my money which goes to spending. i didn't spend a lot on christmas because i juz find it practical but im not also trying to be a grinch by not spending any for myself. i deserve a reward after all the hard work too.
i have spent lots of time in bazaars and sales trying to get the most of it especially for presents for love ones and friends.

Last year my husband and I didn't buy christmas presents for eachother, because we were saving for out wedding, but this year we are going to exchange presents. I have also bought presents for my parents, my brother and his girlfriend and a couple of friends. I don't exchange presents with my aunts, my uncles and my cousins. My father's brother has 3 children and 5 grandchildren, and if I was supposed to buy presents for everyone it would get really expensive. I did exchange presents with my cousins when I was younger, but we haven't done it for years.

i agree! it would be really costly to buy one for everybody. for u and hubby and for ur kids i guess its enough. it takes the pressure of us especially financially. instead of some material things, we can share and celebrate the spirit of christmas perhaps by potluck or some party.. thanks for the reply Porcospino :-)

I think its better to be safe than repent.
Make a list of people whom you want to gift and list of things you want to give. Prioritize the stuff.
Visit Dollar shops to pick a few things from there. Atleast you can get some basic stuff from there.
Just be prudent in this troubled times....very soon we would have bright times again
Happy Shopping !!!

This year, gifts to kids only and my son and my husband. We can't afford it and refuse to go into debt because society dictates it.

I spend a few thousand on christmas this year which is pretty much the same as every year. I havnt been hit by the crunch due to the fact my profession is so in demand I havnt really lost out on a penny.
The only thing that was different this year was i was more sensible.
I started shopping for christmas in june this year and that has actually made things soo easier on myself money wise rather than doing one or two big shops!

As much as I wanted to, my husband and I could not afford it. I had bought gifts for my neice and nephews (the oldest is 7 and the triplets are 4). They wanted books and of course my neice wanted a stuffed animal. I had to buy my nephews cars because it would not have been fair to buy for one kid and not the others.
As for the rest of the family members I made home made gifts. I painted ceramic houses and ornaments. I am also putting together gift baskets full of food. I will be making cookies, candy and fudge.
