"Oh, no, don't get me anything.."

This is one of the ways that the adults in my family get on my nerves. When I asked them for Christmas what they wanted, (as I do every year), they did their same schpeel: "Oh..Don't get me anything" in this tone of voice that I cannot STAND! I am ALL about giving during the Christmas season and as we all expect each other to buy and exchange gifts, why do they have to be so difficult? Even as a 19 year old, presents are definitely NOT my priority..But when someone asks me what I'd like, I don't say things like "Don't worry about it! Don't get me anything!", I will usually flat-out tell them some inexpensive, small things that I'd like to receive. Why beat around the bush? It's like being modest or something..But it's super annoying. Both my mom AND my aunt do this. And I hate having to decide what to get them without guidance. If only they'd cooperate with me! I usually pester them until they get mad at me about it enough to make me a short list. But jeez! Why does it have to be so difficult? Surely you must want SOMETHING! Do you ever have this frustration? Am I looking into it too much?

I do that to my children as well for the simple reason we do not like to be asked what we want it is so much better if you just buy something and wrap it up like a surprise even though we are getting old we still like surprises and it takes the fun out of it if we have to write a list. Think about it you young people normally have long lists but for us older people something like a plant, perfume, bubble baths, any sort of toiletries a book even but as long as it is a surprise that is all we want and that you actually thought about what to buy.

My husband is famous for saying that. I always ask him what would he like of Christmas and he always tells me I don't want anything or I do not need anything. For my mom I usually make her a home made gift (I have done this ever since I was little and now that I am older I still do this). I love buying presents for other people. This year I made home made goodies (cookies, candy and fudge) and put them on a tray. I know that my sister has her four kids make my mom and my grandmother home made gifts. This year my sister's kids had made Santa Claus's out of Hershey Bars. It was really easy.

I want nothing for CHristmas for myself. That is not so hard to understand. I have come to a point where i know material things don't matter...people do!

Yes that does annoy me. Especially when its the same people who tend to buy me the best gifts. Listen, if you buy me something, surely there must be something that you need. Still, I think people enjoy being difficult like this forever reason. Its just human nature I suppose.

What frustrates me about people who say "oh, don't get me anything" is that they never really mean it, and if you don't get them a present they will show resentment towards you for a loooong while. It's not that difficult just to give you a hint, isn't it?

Well on the flip side, I hate when I am asked but they get me something else anyway, something I don't want or need. While I've learned not to say "Don't get me anything", I've also been weary of what I ask for, since I won't get it anyway.
