We are supposed to get a humdinger! Starting tomorrow through Friday we are supposed to get freezing rain.....snow...and a mixture. In case the lights go out I have done a few little preparations. This afternoon I went and got more batteries for my little radio...charged up my cell phone and laptop....and I have a oil lamp and tons of candles just in case. At least I'll have entertainment! Do you do anything to prepare for a big storm?

Hiya jillhill,
We don´t have very strong Storms at least that strong as what you have over there.
I keep two torches with a dynamo in them and they are very handy instead of candles.
Hope it´s not a strong enough Storm to spoil you Holidays.

Hiya jill,
Today is the none typical Day which they have not been forecasting it seems like I have put a Spell on the Weather as yesterday I got back here soaked to the Skin and it took more than an hour on the hot Radiator to dry my Coat and Gloves. I really don´t know why I bothered having a Shower and making myself look a bit glamorous.
I should just be able to go down to the Shops once if I´m lucky and get the extra bits and that´s it.
After let it snow let it snow let it snow.

There was snow throughout the night and it just stopped a little while ago.I didn't even know it was supposed to snow at all!
Hmmm, fortunatly, it seems that the roads are okay and that is good because I was definitely not prepared. So, I suppose my answer is no! I seldom keep track of the weather. I know in Summer it is hot and in Winter it is cold and that's it.
If there is a reallly big storm coming and people are talking about it a lot, I usually hear about it then and I can prepare myself by making sure I have the necessaties like milk, diapers, etc.

Well here on the island we have to take storms seriously because her ewe have had many destructive storms .The first ine I came to know GILBERT caused islandwide damage and shut down the island for about two months and even then everything wasnt fully functional.Consequently it would be foolish not to make preparations and find that you have no supples in a time when there are no shops availabe and even teh shops are hoarding food for themselves. There have been many such destructive storms adn although not as destructive as gilbert they have reeked varying degrees of destruction on the island

I do make certain we have candles and batteries in the flashlights. I also have a little lantern that is battery operated that I use when the power goes out. Luckily we don't lose it very often. I usually get food in here too since we have a gas stove and I can atleast heat something. We are suppose to get a major thunderstorm on Christmas Eve. It's better than all kinds of snow just hope no ligtening comes with it. It's not that cold here right now which is unusual for the holiday season.

Thankfully here we dont have power outage issues to often but....I wont even be home. I may be trapped bored in Duluth this time around. I always have lots of candles handy for storms just in case but other then that I dont do too much to prep.

We are in Houston, Texas so its been really nice here. We haven't done any prep stuff because it rarely gets that cold. It did snow a few weeks ago and that was very rare indeed. When we lived in OK we would stock up on stuff like water and non perishable food. I hope things are okay when the storm comes. Sounds like you are getting prepared.

Hey jill! I think that I am well stocked now just in case!
We are also supposed to be getting that same lovely weather too!
I also have plenty of batteries, but may get some more tomorrow
while I'm out and also need to charge my cell phone too! And
probably should put the batteries in the radio just in case!
I don't have a laptop so that's out! And I have gas so I will
still be able to cook at least!lol Still doesn't make me feel
any better though! Hate losing electricity! I have a full
freezer right now!

Before the hurricane season every year I go on full alert with tinned food etc plus batteries and gas for generator. Then I have candles too in case I run out of gas. Oh, and I always have water stocked - enough for a week in case the rads are blocked. Quite a performance! But it has to be done.

I beklieve we are taught young to prepare for storms and things of this nature. After all, the news isn't always right...They may say it'll only last a couple of hours and 3 days later, it's still going. I prepare way before a storm ever hits, I have 4 kids in the house and like them to be as comfortable as possible. I have propane lanterns, and all the nessities to run them, I keep candles, a light, batteries, a blanket, a knife, and a can opener in one spot, just for emergency. It's nice to know where things are in the dark, instead of having to hunt for them. I believe everyone should be prepared, no matter what the weather looks like or what they say the weather is suppose to be outside.

I am usually prepared pretty much anyways. I keep extra canned goods, gallons of water in my big freezer, as well as other stuff that is heat and eat. Out here in the boonies, it's storms that knock the power out that I have to prepare for in advance. Especially if it happens in winter and it's way below freezing. I have oil lamps, candles, a propane grill (to cook outside when there's no power), and a kerosine heater that's large enough to heat a couple rooms. Now if it's a tornado they say might be passing through, when I hear it on the news I get a wash basket and throw in my purse, bank books, keys, and warm extra clothing and stuff like that, and go to the basement. We don't often get tornados here, but they do occasionally pass through. Power outage doesn't bother me, I keep us well prepared because it usually happens at least a couple of times during the winter. One time it even lasted for a week, and that's when I decided to get the propane grill and the kerosine heater...problem solved!

The weather has been bad all over. We here in the NY area got hit with a snowstorm that began late Saturday night and all through Sundsy...we're still kind of digging out from it. Usually I just make sure I have enough food on hand for a few extra days in case it's too bad going out. I always have a lot of candles on hand, and thankfully my stove is a gas stove so I can still cook. I hate to think what people do who rely on electric stoves and microwaves and what they do during a power outage

Ewwww, that doesn't sound like much fun with that storm coming in! Keep us posted on what's going on, ok? I usually just make sure I have food and candles. I don't have a little radio but that's a good idea. I don't have a cell phone or a laptop either, or an oil lamp. Boy, what a loser I am, haha! It's just me and the kitty, so as long as she is comfy, I am too. I've already read a book by candlelight so I guess I would do that again. It's the only time I read, lol!

I can't remember a time when we've had a blackout or even a really bad storm i think the last one was when i was about 6 i remember coming home from primary school and not being able to walk and my mom faired no better. She was panicking that i'd get blown into the road i remember i'd never seen her so panicked. I have a wind up torch from camping and plenty of books so i'd be fine. I also have a hexiblock from camping and a pack of tablets so we'd be ok with beans for a day or two but after that we'd have to get creative lol (after the butties and crisps of course). I think i'd be fine not to sure my boo would survive though it would mean no xbox360!

Usually we will collect a bunch of non perishable food together, and a lot of water. Because the power usually always goes out when we get a big storm, so having water is important. We will make sure every thing's secure and tied down and cant fly away like our trampoline. We make sure all of our pets are safe inside, and that we have lots of candles and flash lights sitting around. We usually play boardgames around candle light or just read books or go to bed early since theres nothing else really to do.
