A New Joy In Mopping...

Here’s a little known thing about me…I hate mopping floors. They never seem to get clean…it’s like I’m just pushing dirt around. Since I hate doing it, I avoid doing it. I do sweep them but I don’t mop them unless I absolutely have to. We have three floors in our apt. that need mopping…the kitchen, the bathroom and a small area by the front door. Well, that has all changed now. I found something that is totally awesome. They are called Swiffer Pads and they work like magic. I had a Swiffer mop in the closet that someone gave me years ago and I used it once or twice and didn’t care for it. Then the other day at Wal-Mart’s I found the pads. You just hook them on and mop. They are pre-wetted and clean like a dream. You’re only supposed to need about two. I used 5 on the kitchen floor…it was filthy! I used 2 on the bathroom…it wasn’t too bad and 3 on the spot by the front door…I didn’t know such a small spot could get that dirty. The floors look wonderful now and I am totally hooked on my Swiffer. I love mopping now…I’ll set a day and do it once a week now
Have you ever found a product that changed your mind about a chore? Have you ever used a Swiffer? Do you like to mop floors or do you avoid it?

We had a swiffer at the office. I used it once and found it difficult to maneuver. I'd rather use a broom to sweep up. As for mopping, I try not to...

Thats great...I know about the swiffer mop, I use the dry cloths all the time to sweep my floors with, I have wood floors and they pick up the dust like nothing else, not just push it around, and they give the floors a nice clean shine. Now I do use the wet pads you mentioned and they work good, but I found that they don't go very far, they get dried up fast so if you have a big area to mop you'll have to use more than one, and depending on what kind of floor your mopping they start shredding too, but all in all they're useful. As of right now, I can't think of anything, and I don't like mopping floors either but I do it because I know it needs to be done, nobody else will do it for me..lol.

I have tried the swiffer, it was ok but I like to do things the old fashioned way. I like using a string mop, gets into corners pretty good. And a good old cloeaning on hands and needs once in awhile helps. Plus it is much cheaper than buying all these fancy things they have out these days.

My daughter found Swiffer afew years back and loves them! She hates the old fashioned mops and didn't like the act at all. Now the house looks very nice. The two bathrooms, Foyer, and diningroom/kitchen areas all look very nice. The whole shabang is alittle expensive but I think it is quite worth it to have sweet smelling, nice looking floors to empress yourself with.

I use the same type of thing, only my rag gets washed. I have 2 microfiber ones. I use them when the floor isn't really dirty. The rest of the time I use a big floor rag and a squeegee. My whole house is tile, so if I bought those swiffer things, it would cost a fortune. The local variation of swiffer just came out. They are marketing it for cleaning up small areas that got dirty between moppings. People around here mop their whole house at least every other day. Some folks do it once or twice a day. I think they are crazy. Once a week (ok every other week) suits me just fine. I go over the traffic areas with a damp cloth in between if it needs it.

I have a client that has the Swiffer! Love it! I wish that many others had it too. But, for some they really need a heavy duty mop. This means a workout for me! We only have a small area that requires a mop. So we use the old conventional spaghetti mop. Works great!
Wish they would invent something to make cleaning the refrigerator less of a chore!

The OVEN has got to be the worst!
I tend to put that one off too long , and then it is an even more major job.

I see from your picture you're talking about Swiffer wet sheets? I used those for years before I tried the generic Walmart ones. If you haven't tried those, you might want to. They pick stuff up much better, and go on the Swiffer mop just fine.

I agree about regular mops, and I do love the swifter ones, but they really can't handle heavy duty dirt - if you mop daily or don't have a lot of dirt being tracked in, then they are GREAT
Excuse me while I go pick up the piles of poop on the floor - dogs and cats.... grrrrrrr

Yes I hate mopping the floor. I have tried a few things even a new mop w/ a scrubbing piece on it wich I later could not even get the replacement mop head on So now if I do the floors we do a regular ol' sponge mop and then I use the Bona cleaner & mop to go over it.
Yes I hate mopping the floors. My kids are 3 tornados & it takes me all flipp'n day cause I have to pick up so much, put it away, get side tracked along the way, and then find a time to do it where they won't be trampling thru my freshly washed floors.

Oh I forgot to mention too I don't like the idea of the swiffer, it's not very "green" and there used to be a way folks had mentioned that you could rig up an old towel or sweats on the swiffer so didn't have to keep buying those lil pads. I guess someone @ Swiffer caught wind and changed the design so people couldn't clip on their own home made pad. Same with the spray I've heard they make the bottle impossible to refill w/ your own solution so that forces you to either buy a refill or wet your floor by some other means.

hi twoey mopping the floor and washing dishes were two of my most
unfavorite jobs in the house. Here I am treated like a queen every day, my floor is vacumned and bed changed and made every day, my clothes are washed and dried for me. so I sit here and mylot a lot.I do miss not being able to buy my own food and cook it the way I like it but am treated really nicely so guess its worth most of mysocial security and ssi checks to pay the rent and board here in this retirement center. I love the new modern swiffer and think they are just great, when and if I ever get back into an apartment again I will buy one for sure.

I think the swiffer pads are getting to be expensive but I am sure you can find a knock off at the dolalrt store, or if you sew, knit or crochet you can make your own, you could even do a no sew method and take a dust cloth or a hand towel and put that on the mop by using clothes pins, or velcro!
Even a head towel with the loop on the back would work! lol!
I like to mop the floor but like you feel that atleast with the rag mop it doesn't do any good, lol.

We used a Swiffer mop where I use to work and I didn't care much for it. However, it was used by several people and they rarely changed the pad. The floor never looked clean as a result. It seemed to scoot the dirt around and not really clean. I would buy one for the house and use it because of your recommendation. Most of our house is carpeted but the kitchen floor gets filthy from the dog and my husband tossing him food. Lately I have been getting on my hands and knees and scrubbing. Works fine until I try to get up...lol

Oh well, I hate mopping too and the saddest part is that staying in a summer country means that we keep the floors open (no carpet) and it has to be mopped daily for that squeaky clean look. Most houses have maids that do it but I cant afford one...so I am resigned to my fate! There are in total four rooms and one balcony which has to be mopped...but I have compromised on cleanliness for the sake of my health and time...I mop only once a week. I know the floor doesnt really reflect my face but we manage it this way.

I hate sweeping and mopping floors. My husband doesn't mind so he does it. I only do it when I have to. My mom has a swiffer wet jet that she is going to give me but I have to buy the refills for it yet. Congrats on getting the pads. I hope I can find something that will make me want to sweep and mop more often. I hate forcing myself to do housework, lol. :)

I hate mopping floors, too.
I've heard there is a chemical in swiffers that goes on the floor and is bad for animals. Have you heard that? I've heard there is an alternative to the chemical or a more natural way to do the same thing, but I don't know what it is.
