Here in mylot a lot of discussions tackled everyday... some are very short yet interesting, some are lengthy but boring and etc. When you picked the topic that catches your attention do read the entire details or you simply jump to the conclusion? In my case, i don't... sometimes. I just simply answer her/his question right away according to the title of his/her discussion. I do this if I'm bored and the discussion is lengthy but i want to participate because its catchy. How about you?

Not only do I read all the details, I read all the other posts that have been made to a discussion, to get a broader view of the subject!

Whoa! You really want to make sure that your answer is within the content. That's a nice attitude though but it will eat your time. Pretty sure you received the "best response" in every discussions you participated? Yu've been doing this since you joined mylot?
Thanks for dropping by.
Ciao!

A catchy title will attract my attention which make me want to read the contents of the post to the end. Many times titles are misleading and have no bearing on the contents but nevertheless I will respond to it if I have something to say or can relate well to it. I don't simply respond for the sake of responding but it takes an interesting write-ups to entice me to respond.

I often start with the title and if the title seems to be enough to conclude anything, I would then decide if I should read or not at all. When I do get interested, I read the entire post and then decide if its boring or not. Sometimes, the title isn't enough for me (or maybe that's how they do it so that one would get curious and start reading the discussion).
Depending on the entire post, I might try to reply to every point that was given in the discussion. That would help lengthen the post and I really do try to make quality posts. Short responses seem to be not enough.
When I am bored or not in the mood, I just try to get back at it another time.

I always read, re-read, and re-re-read discussions I try to read all of the replies, too. I really want to have all of the information that I could need, and I don't want to get something wrong. Oddly enough, even after reading it so many times, I sometimes still miss something or get something wrong I really hate when that happens...
I can usually read really long posts/discussions, but if one of them is too long to keep my attention, or I'm just not in the mood to read all of it, I won't bother replying

Hmmm... quite you're a little perfectionist. If you miss something do you add something/or any follow up answer after hitting the "post comment" button? I'm sure it will bother you if you don't. For me, reading other comment is sometimes boring. I do that also when I'm bored and have nothing to say or my mind is not working.

I'm a major perfectionist Yes, I do add something, if I miss something. I've been trying to leave some of my mistakes, because I'm sure my constant editing bothers other people... but it does really bug me when I make a mistake. I will sometimes add a follow up answer, but sometimes I worry I'm bothering the person who started the discussion, if I do that... I'm not sure why
You're right, it can be boring, sometimes

Half baked cakes are never tasty. When you are doing something do it properly otherwise don't do it. You are killing the very purpose of the discussion. This way you won't be able to do justice to it.
Hope you will be more disciplined. Any way I really appreciate your frankness. Wish you a very merry christmas and lot of good luck.

Hi meapas: I think you are completely right and that's what everybody should do. In my case as i have mention it's important to read the whole message to do what it's expected for the starter. Thanks for your answer. Hope you are having a nice day. Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays. Take Care.

Hi simonelee! I picked the topic I will respond based on its title but I always read the entire topic... Sometimes the title is really not what the topic starter wants to know... I have read many. though the title is related to it, I still believe we all need to read the entire discussion for better understanding and good sharing of views and opinions...

I agree with them simonelee! If we want a good quality discussion then we all must read the whole thing... Give time and respond to it properly...
It is annoying to receive a response which is not actually what you want to know... it is like getting a nonsense answer to someone...

For me, I simply read the title of the discussion forst and if that catches my interest, I will read what the starter of the discussion has written & then I will respond...this way I will be responding on the topic correctly without getting completely off track like I can do sometimes.

I receive most of mine via my notifications and I decide which ones to take a look at by the title and the first line, after that I will read the whole thing before responding because the title can be deceiving. Some MyLotters are very clever with their titles; they make them interesting enough for one to want to read on. I think it is important to read the entire post because it’s all too easy to misinterpret what the discussion starter is asking sometimes.

Hi somonelee,
I usually read the whole discussion before I give my response to that. Sometime the title was misleading and confusing or even sometimes does not have anything at all to the discussion. Some of us use a very attractive title to attract others to open and read and if possible to response to his/her discussion.
Some title also hanging at the wall. There is nothing we know about the discussion unless we read it. Title like "What would you do?", "Can you help me?", "It is true, isn't it?" does not give us any clue about the discussion. We need to read the discussion itself before we can response to it. Otherwise, our response most probably out of context.

I read the topic well before answering or commenting to avoid mistakes and misunderstandings. Communication is very important and reading the whole topic makes us communicate good with the author of the topic, if we will just answer it based on the title then there is a chance of being irrelevant or miscommunication that will lead to debates and word fights which is not good.

I have to read everything first before I reply because I might not give the correct reply. It will also show that you have either not understood the problem or what the person has said. Some are lengthy because they are qualitative in nature, meaning the person has narrated his or her lived experience relating to the question. On the other hand, some might answer the question straight to the point. What is important is that the person answered the question correctly and appropriately. The most disappointing is when a person replying a reply just posts for the sake of posting. There will be some who will belittle the post, disagree without even explaining why. Disagreements are okay as long as its still in order. It can't be helped if people disagree as we all have different viewpoints. What I can say is that if you don't like the topic at all, then don't write anything derogatory belittling the topic posted. Just post at topics that you're interested.

HAHAHAHAH When i read the Title of this i knew it was for me. lol most of the time i will read the title and then about 2-5 lines into it to get a sence on what is happenning. but if the title says it all then i will not usually read it. so i guess my advice to you would be say what you need to say within the first 3 sentances.

Hi simonelee,
I will read the entire discussion before answering. If I don't have time to read the entire discussion (if the discussion is lengthy) then I may skip that discussion. The reason is sometimes the title won’t match with the content or sometimes I can't understand the theme from the title. For e.g., once there was a discussion and title was 'what is your style' when I read the content then only I understand that the person is asking about the method of replying in mylot discussions. But I would like to add that some people are very talented and the topic will convey what they intend to say.

I read short discussion when it is written longer I understand the title then just scan the rest of the paragraph and reply on it. Also, depending on the poster discussion on the end of his paragraph. Then, i could reply with sense and not just replying which bother me if I write something non-sense. Then, if i know the poster read each user reply then I make sure i make an intelligent reply while those poster who never seem to reply or reply only with one liner seem not interested to the user reply deserves nonetheless less wording which no need to elaborate as the poster itself is hesitant to reply on his own discussion..

Hello simonelee and me to never make an haste while participating in mylot, mostly use mine free time for it.I like to go through the discussion, means read it carefully, understand it and interpret it, with what i think is good for it.Else it won't make any sense to our response as sometimes there are two meanings to an single word, based on its further description, and tend to avoid this pro.So normally i read out the discussion in detail, and then respond to it in best possible manner.Anyways Happy mylotting.

I read the entire posted discussion then answer it honestly in my opinion.
Though this site adds earning to me, I find this site well addressed one which can help others life improve and be just a simple person who can speak out what you have in mind.
In every discussions I reply, I share my ideas unlimited. I do not care if it takes too long to read as long I made my opinions cleared for all.
I put importance in every topic I am about to enter in a discussion. As much the one who started given importance to his discussion.
and that gives a good communication and fair enough the one who made efforts for that and who responded to his efforts.
It is only the discussion started who can know those people views about his discussion and what satisfy his doubts and questions if answered.
Merry christmas

I always read the whole thing. I find that if it is something you are interested in you will have a better response. Also I have seen posts where people get annoyed when we just answer what we think the response so be according to the title. I try not to drive anyone too nuts. The key word there is "try" hehe
I think we should read the whole post.
