Is it right to always follow our heart than our mind?

My dad often told me to always listen and follow my heart because it will leads me truth and happiness while my mom believe that It's more important to follow my head more than my heart because it will deliver me from pain and misery. She believes that because brain is above the heart it's the one who should be followed than the heart.
How often to do you follow heart than you mind, or vice verse? Or do you always have a balance when it comes to using them? Which is more importance to you?

Well,all my friend and my family do the same thing,when I was facing the choose and I cant make my mind,they also said follow my heart,it will lead me to the right way.I trust them,even sometimes I make the wrong decision and I will said ok to myself,becos I already did it.

Yeah, that's what I also heard from my friends during those times when I'm confused and don't know which road to take, they advice me to listen my heart and pray to God to guide me the way. I did listened my heart and often I make the right decision. In following ones heart it should be right, and you're not gonna step others foot and hurt other people so in the end you'll get what you expect. Hi,
Your dad is actually right.Its true that we take decisions on basis of heart in life.We would feel happy and also would be successful. You mother asked to listen to head than you heart.This is also applicable in certain cases like laziness,dodging,postpoinng things,scolding others, showing our temper on others.In all the above mentioned cases , we need to follow our head and not heart.

Yeah, there are those times that we need to follow our head and not our heart. Let's take for example those people who want to be love by someone whom can't give love. Their heart tells to do something to get the persons love whatever it takes, even though their mind said stop! But still they listened to their heart and hoping that one day they person will love them back. And so, in the end they're hurt because they're so dumb not to listen their mind. Yeah, you're right! Honesty will bring us peace in our heart and lead our mind to the right way. As long as you did what is right, you can never go wrong. Our heart and mind are both very important and should be taken and handle with balance. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

In a way, both your parents are correct and you also have a correct thought--balance.
That balance needs to come to us by the instructions God left us, because, due to our sin nature, both our heart and mind can be deceptive.
Read about the heart in Jeremiah 17:7-11. Check out what God says about our mind in Isaiah 55:8-11.
In either case, one can check the Holy Bible to see if they are going in the right direction. Sometimes a person will find direct commands for a given situation, while at other times they will find principles to go by.

Yeah, I believe that they're both right what I need to do is to have a balance on both sides and ideas. Because our mind and heart is very important. We can't just live in our life using either one. We will surely fall or trapped in misery, it's through the guidance of the Holy Spirit we'll able to know the wisdom of when and how to used or mind and heart. hi
when i was in my 21, Im confused, to follow my heart or my mind,. but at the end I follow what's my heart says, because my mom says the heart is deceitful about all things and beyond cure., so I followed my heart, but try also to balance, it's all depends on the situation.. my situation is a little complicated so i follow whats my heart and my mom says. And i was blessed.

Hi myramae: Even if you don't tell us the exactly situation it's good that someone feel blessed in his/her emotional situation. After reading your answer I think that many people take their decition based on what theyr mom says. Lol. XD. it wud be better to follow both heart n mind. But, in my opinion, the best source to judge and/or make decision is ur heart/feeling. It's the miracle of heart.

Yeah, only heart can see, what's essential is invisible to the eyes. It's the heart where God speaks and lives. But we have our mind and it has its own purpose that we must use as well, not just our heart. Life is a learning process. We keep on learning and growing until the end of our time. not always, as our heart works only in the matter of relations while to use it in other things like busssiness or work will be a wrong decision. as we have ti use our mind in these cases, even in studies too.

that's hard to only follow your mind or listen to your heart.we should compact it and make the suitable decision regarding every thing.i do not like those men always carry a cool mind and even been cold blooed. they do not listen to their heart at all and that's not a human being already.

Hi care guardian: I think you both are important and it's better to use your heart and your brain and not only one of them for your own good. If you are pure emotions you'll be used for someone that just want to play with you but if you are pure brain you probably will not be able to enjoy a relationship because you can not calculate every step you take in your relationship. So both are important and there is no better sense for me. We have a heart and a brain because we need to think what we do but to be sensibles to the signs of love. Without adding any religion into the mix (honestly. IMO that's a real cop-out instead of doing it yourself.), I can say that it's usually a balance of what your heart says is right (when it actually is) and when your mind is right. My mom always said to me to outweigh the pros (positives) against the cons (negatives) and then go from there. Most of the time that works, but there have been quite a few times where I had to go with my heart because it was about even, or i just knew with instinct that i was correct.
I hope that you'll be able to make the right decisions, but we're all human here (hopefully lol). We all make mistakes careguarden.

I agree to your dad's opinion . Every decisions should be done by our heart, that is your true spirit,maybe the real soceity would force you don't know you should go left or right,but do anything consistently with your heart,it would lead your life pretty wonderfully.
