What was it like giving birth to your first baby? For men, were you in the room?

My daughter is about to have a baby in about a month and she got me thinking about when I gave birth to her, she was my first. I remember how I was nervous and worried something would go wrong. I was also worried about the pain, but, not as much as my second because then I knew what to expect, and I think that was worse! :o.
So, what about you? How was your first baby? Were other births easier? For men, if you were in the room, how was it for you?

Our first child's birth was a little complicated. First my wife's water broke at about 2 in the morning which shocked me in me in the midst of my sleep. Then we went to the hospital and the baby did not want to come out yet. They tried to deliver the baby naturally but it was not happening so my wife had to go for an emergency C-Section. My poor wife was tortured so much it was such a difficult birth. I was worried about my wife. But we have beautiful girl to show for it so it was all worth it.

I have nothing to contribute, but just want to say that I appreciate a woman's sacrifices to give birth very much. It is definitely painful, as I've read others replies, and my heart squeezed reading it because I'm reminded of how my mom must have felt when she was giving birth to me.

Well, men in the labor room is becoming fashion now and when my wife gave birth to our kids,I was not expected to be there. But I awaited outside the labor room with tension and excitement. For my first baby girl,my wife was sleeping even after the trips and a scan was taken to find the umblical chord is short and so went for Caesarian. It was again caesarian for my second baby boy.My wife had no complaints of the labor pain but after delivery she had to struggle a lot to come to normal life.that was really a tough period for her.

Well I had 2 in 14 months so it cant be that bad! I thought it was great both times! It was like the best experience of my life, I would love to do it all over again!
I wasnt scared about the pain I didnt get a chance to be worried because we moved into our place when I was 6 months gone and in between work and appointments we were decorating so didnt get a chance to be concerned!
My second was easier because with my first my daughter started turning to the back-to-back position and I needed an epidural, with my second things were pretty straight-forward although they were getting a bit worried about her. I was in labour 19 hours with my 1st and 16 hours with my 2nd so I have quite long labours! I was worried about that with my second!

You had your babies very close together as did I. And, they say when they are born so close, the second is a lot easier. For me, that is very true. My second, despite my fear, actually came out a lot quicker and the pain was a lot easier to handle!
Yes, you did have long labor! I But, all that hard work was worth it! Thanks for your response!

Yes, indeed! I have 3 teens,14,15 and 16 and boy is that hard! To top it off my two girls are completely different and unfortunately argue alot! The boy does his own thing but still teases the girls, he does stuff just to get under their skin! When they are all in a mood at the same time, lookout!

I am also about to give birth on May and it will be my first baby. I am also worried because they said that first delivery is very painful but worth it. I am expecting a healthy baby and not the pain because I belive that if I will saw the baby the pain during the labor will be worth it.

hi marlena
First delivery is really painful, I gave birth to my son last 2006, and it was horrible. i started my labor 2 days before delivery, the pain is incomparable... my husband is besides me, holding my hands and really excited, looking at his excitement makes me feel comfortable and lessen the pain bit. painful but worth it. Good luck to your daughter's delivery. happy new year.

My first birthing experience was not such a great one. I was in labor for several hours. I never did dialate all the way, and finally at the 24 hour mark they decided to try to deliver the baby the natural way even though I am naturally small and still needed to dialate another centimeter, but 24 hours after the water breaks infection starts to set in so they had to do an emergency C-Section. By that time I was already on pain meds before they even did the epideral. I was really out of it for about 24 hours after the birth and had trouble holding my daughter without falling asleep. My daughter was also badly bruised and beat up from the whole experience as well, but after a couple of days she was back to normal and beautiful

I would have to say that my only full term pregnancy was wonderfull. I enjoyed every moment of it! I went into the hospital at noon and my daughter was born at 5:46 that evening. very fast birth. I had no pain until I was 4cm dialated and had to get an epidural to ease it. After I got the epidural I reached 10cm in half an hour and pushed a couple times, then held my beautiful girl in my arms. It was a great experience. She is now almost 5 years old today.

I was in pure hell that day. I was in so much pain. I could not believe it was that bad. I was in labor all night and did not know it. I thought it was braxton hicks. I was already dilated when I got to the hospital.
