I have seen a lot of netbooks in the stores and wonder what people think of them. I was on Ebay and saw several listed for under $100 with a 2 gig hard drive. Any experience using a portable hard drive with them and are they any good? I was told by one person that for surfing the Internet and downloading photos to a portable hard drive they are fine. What say you mylotters?
Thanks for you help.

I'd wait for a better deal if you want to buy one,
first cuz the 2gb usually don't come with expansion card slot,
please note i said expansion card slot, and not card reader slot.
Of course i could be wrong, and some may have it.
They also come in 4gb and 8gb,
but they are still old generation netbooks,
and i would not buy them either.
I'd go for Asus eee pc, they come in several shapes and models
and they have from 80gb to 360gb hdd for past an year now.
I'd also look for one preinstalled with xp or win 7,
unless you can switch it yourself, or have a friend that can help there.
They come with linux and other operating sistems as well,
and some models may not be supported by any windows.
So do a little research about specifications.
Especially if you want more then download photos and internet.
Else any netbook, with any operating sistem will do the job,
if that's all you need.

yes even i have also seen many netbooks on ebay , i was surprise to see their price and was really shocked and then i thught that the products are either not in good condition or have some defect in them but i was wrong , my online friend bought a netbook from ebay at cheap price and she said that it works fine , it is been two month of the purchase and evrything is working good and then i found that things in ebay are good and durable , she even got a warranty card with the netbook

Using an external hard drive on a netbook is the same with using them on a laptop or desktop. If you are downloading, I suggest that you save it first on the hard drive of the netbook then transfer it on the external drive when it's done.

There is no netbook available that is under 100 dollars.
the netbook you were viewing was probably used or was in the condition of "As Is"
Now, the 2GB HDD, its not HDD, its SSD. hard drives dont come that small..atleast they dont do now.
Now seriously, dont tell me that youre planning to buy that 2 Gig netbook. that wont do you any good. also with SSD, there is no question of upgradibility. and why not spend another 150 bucks more and get a netbook with far far better specs and 160 GB HDD??
now lets assume you bring that netbook also. what are you going to do with it?
windows xp sp2 takes alone 1 gb of space..will you be able to work with 1 gb??
