Admin for a Day: Tasks!

January 1, 2010 6:32pm CST
We added tasks a few months ago. Do you do the tasks? What do you like about them? What don't you like about them? What would you change? Have you created your own task? If so, was it easy to do or did you have trouble? What can we do to make the task system and task pages even better?

I have not done any tasks yet. Most people have said their work was rejected and were not paid. I have looked @ the tasks and feel many of the subjects I have no knowledge of and I feel like I am writing a portion of someones college paper. I'm not in college anymore and I'm not writing someone's homework IMO.

Hi 3SnuggleBunnies! I can understand that the tasks aren't for you. You obviously enjoy participating in discussions though, right?

Absolutly! Sadly I've been on another forum for years & someone from that forum gave me the link to this site.... though I've never seen her around I do enjoy participating in the conversations on here. But it would be nice to have another way to earn a lil more other than thru tasks & referrals outside of participating in discussions. The double pay day was nice! Maybe consider doing that every now and again

Can you think of another way to earn aside from tasks, images, and discussions? All suggestions are welcome!

I would like to ask why linkmaster no longer make task? What happen to him? I'm a good friend of linkmaster. Then the linking task will return? Hope you answer my question regarding the task of linkmaster.

When I first heard of tasks I had a certain idea in my head what the tasks would be. I ended up being extremely disappointed. It was really a great opportunity to get some good discussions going but it turned out to be something pretty useless as far as I'm concerned. I expected tasks to involve giving people certain topics to start a discussion on. Whoever was assigned the subject would write on it. I guess I tend to think like a writer.

Hi irishidid! So you expected to see tasks more intertwined with discussions? Interesting!

I like the Sharon Bucks tasks but they are too easy to miss unless one constantly presses the task bar, as they are gone so quickly, also the time difference often means they are posted at midnight over here which is inconvenient. I think that if one is rated highly on doing these tasks then an individual alert could be sent when they go up. I also have reason to believe that the Sharon Bucks tasks are being unfairly claimed with people using double addresses to do so. I am not interested in any lowly paid tasks but only the Sharon Bucks ones but an individual alert to those whose work is rated would be a great addition.

I tried do some tasks but sadly i stopped doing it immediately, there are people who put referrals on tasks and after signing up, they will just reject your tasks, they will tell you that it is not yet complete, but i am sure i already completed and done what are written on their instructions, at the end i became a looser, they got my referral, they earn from it and i got nothing. Anyway, what i like about tasks is that we can earn extra money on it aside from participating from discussions, i just wish that referral type of tasks will be taken away from that program. That is all and thank you.

yeah, i fall into such scam tasker too. he rejected my completed task saying that i am not found under his referral list. i am sure that i followed all his instructions & became his referral, but in the end i was not paid for it. i asked his username so that i can check with the admin of the site but he does not reply me. i contacted the admin asking to know who is my upline but the admin said he is unable to tell.

Hello to both of you! I'm sorry that these didn't work out for you. If you legitimately completed the work I would hope that the task owner would be honest and reward you as promised.

I haven't created any task yet but I do some of it. Those tasks are mostly for US so they are so lucky to have to do it all :D I think it would be better if the default page for tasks is the available task so newbies will know that there are more tasks than in the dashboard :D

Thanks a lot for asking Alice.I have done so many tasks and was able to earn nearly 50$ on the month of introduction of the tasks itself. But lately most of the tasks were aimed at the members of USA only.I would like to have more task especially from Sharon Bucks which will enable all us to participate.Tasks is definitely a very good addition to Mylot and members get inspired by it very much.

Do you do the tasks? I have done in the past. Currently there seems to be very few which are worth the trouble. What do you like about them? I enjoyed the writing tasks (by Sharon Bucks). I felt they were reasonably rewarded. What don't you like about them? I am appalled that so many tasks which appear to bend the rules continue to appear. The amounts offered as a reward for many of them are just not worth the bother. What would you change? I would make it so that ALL tasks had to be approved before they were posted and also there should be an Ombudsman available (as a last resort) to settle disputes between the workers and the Task Owners. I haven't experienced it myself but I have heard that some Task Owners have been very slow about approving tasks and have not responded to communications. There should be a mechanism in place to deal with that. Have you created your own task? No. I have played briefly with the Task Setting interface but that is all. If so, was it easy to do or did you have trouble? I didn't find it particularly difficult to understand but then I didn't have a task to set, either as an exercise or in reality. What can we do to make the task system and task pages even better? I do not see the need for both 'Available Tasks Expiring soon' and 'Available Tasks'. If all available tasks were listed on one (or more) pages it should answer most people's needs. I have to confess that, until I looked just now, I didn't realise that the small grey (and orange) lettering at the top was a sort facility! The format of the task page would be much clearer if it were tabular (with headings that would sort on that column). A fair example of something of that nature would be the list of titles in an Amazon Seller's Account Suggested headings: Created by; Category; Brief description (& tags); Date Created; Expires in; No. Avail; Total Tasks; Time allotted; Reward It's worth mentioning an apparent bug (but it may be a 'feature') in the reporting system in Tasks. When one reports a task (which can only be done by opening the task) and sends the report, the page returns to the Available Tasks page, not to the Task.

I forgot to mention that 'apparent bug'. It seems that wherever a report is placed (tasks or discussions) we get taken back to a different place compared to where we started - report on page 3 of a discussion takes us back to page 1 when the box is closed (but Alice is already aware of that bug).

Hi again owlwings! I can see how an ombudsman would be beneficial and I've added this to our task wish list. Yes, tasks can be sorted. You're right - since they are sortable there's less of a need for an "expiring soon" page. I can also see how a tabular layout would make things a lot clearer and I've added this to our wish list. I'd expect that you'd want to see every column sortable too. I've noted the reporting bug too. Thanks!

I don't like them and I don't do them. I guess there are some people actually making some money on them, but I honestly don't have time to waste to do 4 long or 6 short paragraphs about something I don't know anything about and have no interest in researching. I'm guessing that "Sharonbucks" is going to turn around and sell this production to someone else some how for more money and I'm glad she can do so, but its not for me. The only thing I see as a bigger waste of time is the quizzes, since that takes you away (or at least it used to) from the mylot site and for my poor old slow computer, it was too hard to get back again. I take those same quizzes on other sites that my computer seems to handle better - and I mostly don't do that either since I can't tell if I'm going to be payed or not taking them here. I've started on next years first Christmas present and haven't even been on here as much as I might like, but I like to get started when I start so I don't lose momentum.

I think tasks are a good addition to Mylot. I would actually be looking forward to one feature in tasks. I should be able to receive an alert if a particular task master has added an task. For e.g. suppose I like Sharon Bucks' task, I should be able to subscribe to alerts for her task and know whenever she posts a task. Cheers! Ram

Yes, it could be a daily digest kind of a thing where in a single mail I can get an alert, but the problem with single digests is that it would come at fixed time intervals meaning that once in a 24-hour cycle. My suggestion is to have may be one alert per day and if more then it becomes a part of the digest. Cheers! Ram
2 Jan 10
Hi ram_cv! I've already added this to our wish list. One thing to keep in mind though is that there are times when SharonBucks posts hundreds of tasks. How would you like to see the alerts managed in that case? Would you only want to receive one alert in a 24-hour window?

I did the tasks when they were pay for writing but not the sign up garbage. I like them for the better money they make me but they weren't always clear on what they wanted or were some times rejected for reasons that made no sense. And while I know some rejections were real others aren't but still are held a persons task record. I haven't created my own because I have no need of it. More real tasks would be great. The task pages are pretty good as is.

Like that it was copied when it wasn't, that it didn't register when there was nothing to register, when the instructions told you to use a key word (ebay) and then you were rejected for using that keyword (ebay) Of the few rejections I got half made sense and half didn't..... I mean half I could see where it may have been an issue but like I said instructions weren't always clear.

Hi TLChimes! What kind of reasons were you given that made no sense?

I have actually only done one task since I have been with mylot, but I think with the right work, it could be a very great benefit to the members of mylot. There is another site that I work on occasionally where they have very many different types of tasks that you can do, they are very much like a microworker type of deal to a certain degree and the pay for these things varies tremendously from penny tasks to tasks that pay a very fair amount of money, but the pay does very with the time and effort that they take to complete. For example, in that situation the penny tasks take significantly less than a minute to complete for the most part while some of the higher paying tasks take over an hour to properly complete. My honest opinion on tasks here at this point in time, they should be taken down and there should be a complete overhaul of the entire system to ensure that more people are able to come in and make legitimate tasks and that there are less scammer tasks that people fall prey to.

Some of the things that I've done on the other site that I have referred to is to do small data entry tasks. Taking the information from one sort of form (that you download) and putting it into an excel spreadsheet. Another example of the tasks on that site is transcription, in other words taking a voice file and typing out the information into a word file. There are other things as well but those are the two that first come to mind.
2 Jan 10
Hi again dorannmwin! Would you mind sharing some information with us? Earlier in this discussion someone asked for examples of other types of legitimate tasks aside from writing tasks. What types of tasks would you expect to see? Also, anyone can create a task. Some see this as a downfall while others see this as an advantage.

Hi. I would have wanted to submit a task if it weren't for the prospect of having to transfer ten dollars of my funds into the tasks balance. I've reached that amount, but if I were to submit it into the tasks area, I wouldn't be able to reach payout. Preferrably we could post tasks and fund it according to the number of people who would sign up for it instead.

Tasks are most loved feature for me on mylot. I made most of my earnings from completing the tasks. When mylot allowed users to post their own tasks I did posted few. Now I have a complaint that : 1. The minimum amount to add in funds should be reduced from $10 to $2-5 2. When we post the task they first go for approval then listed This is because some of my tasks were made expired and same topic/tagged tasks were running. This resulting in balance in my funds stayed as it is. I added $18 for tasks creation And I still have $10.99 balance there. 3. I want to withdraw my funds balance please make some arrangements.

Hi Mainesh! You can request a refund of your task funds by using the 'contact' link at the bottom of the page. There is a drop-down menu on the left. Go to 'other', wait for it to load and then just ask for them to be returned. I did this last week and 3 days later they were sent to me : http://www.mylot.com/o/contactus.aspx

Hello Alice! I think that the task should be automatically approved after a certain period of time. I notices some of my task where never approved and are just there pending... Also the money amount limit. Some want to pay only 02 cents for a complicated sign up. To make things a little more fair for all the price should increase to 0.10 at least.

Hi beatrizguiselle! What period of time do you think is fair for automatic approval?

I think 2 weeks is too much, 7 days would be fair to both users.

I would say that if a task is not approved, returned or rejected within two weeks of being submitted, then that would seem to me to be a fair time-frame to then have it automatically approved, especially since the tasks have a specific time-frame in which they must be completed in order to be eligible for payment.

I have done quite a few tasks and is happy with the earnings. I would be happy if the tasks can be segregated under different categories. it will be easier for those who are particularly looking for such tasks to have them under one heading. it will also be easier to search.

This is more of a question than a suggestion really, although if it is not currently available then I would like to add it as a suggestion. I was banned from doing a particular task (after submitting quite a few and not getting any feedback before the task creator started a new batch of tasks), because the task creator said that I was not reading and following the instructions properly. Finally after some back and forth interaction and having several tasks returned to be re-done, we figured out what the issue was (a default setting that I was never asked to change before completing the task), and the rest of my tasks were approved. This person has not created any tasks since the issue was resolved and my tasks were finally approved, but I was wondering whether or not the task creator has the power to re-instate my ability to do a certain task once they have banned me from doing them. If not, then I think they should be able to do so if it was just a misunderstanding, as it was in this case.

Heya just in case you have not yet read GoAskAlice's reply to your question on my response, Im posting it again: "purplealabaster, make note of as much information as you can regarding the pending task: the task creator's username, the date the task was created, the date you submitted your work, the task number (it's in the URL), and the task title are all helpful pieces of information. Then go to the myLot Contact Us page and submit your information." ~ GoAskAlice If you like to view the actual response, just go to page 9 under response #82. Hope that helps.^_^

Yes, the task creator blocked me from doing any more of his or her tasks. This happened after I had completed a bunch of the tasks but before the task creator had reviewed a lot of them. After we figured out why my results were not returning what the task creator expected, then the rest of the tasks that I had already submitted were approved. I was not able to accept any further tasks from this person, though. Since the task creator then sent me a friend request, I was hoping that the incident was cleared up and I would not be blocked from future tasks. However, this person has not posted any more tasks, so I guess it is a moot point, but I was wondering whether or not it was possible to unblock someone once you had blocked them. Thank you for answering this question.
11 Jan 10
Hi purplealabaster! First, some clarification: Let's use the word "blocked" rather than "banned" as you aren't really banned from anything. :) A task creator cannot block you from a particular type of task. A task creator can block a member from all of his or her tasks and that's it. Unless I'm misunderstanding the time line, it doesn't sound like you were actually blocked at all. To answer your question: Yes, a block can be removed.

I like the tasks alright, but there don't seem to be very many and a majority of them are sign-up to somewhere in order to earn this much. I've done a few just to incress my earnings because I really need the money. I haven't started any tasks because I don't have money to start them with, and I don't want to take it out of my earnings eaither. Believe it or not, the little I've made here last month will probably go into my bank account once I recieve the payment. Depending on how things go. Though sometimes I wish the tasks were easier to find. like broken down into searchable catagories instead of scattered about all over the place.

Hi kaylachan! You're right, there aren't very many right now! Just to clarify, you can't use your myLot earnings to fund your tasks directly. You have to fund them from your PayPal account. I've added your "category" wish to our list!
