Aren't you really?? Are you sure?? This reminds me of a story. There are two families with two sons. The sons grew up and left home. Both sons came home with their dirty laundry. Mom 1. says: I love you son. Let me clean your laundry. Mom 2. says: I love you son. You have two hands. You can do your laundry yourself. You are a grown man and very capable. Well, the sons are 50 years old. Mom 1. is still doing that laundry. Her son depends on her for he would never know where to begin to wash all those clothes. Mom 2. Relaxes, knowing that her son is standing on his own two feet. Sure, she had to give her son some advice when he first started to clean his own clothes, but now her son can do it all. A Being capable of creating universes has to be very smart! Like mom 2. God is not going to do it all for you. He will guide you along the way, but learning, growing, and discovery is up to us all. If you absolutely need help, God will send it for you. He always does for me. Wisdom is gained through the struggle to attain answers and knowledge. Don't expect God to do your laundry, but He will keep an eye on you. God's greatest joy is when we finally discover, understand, and see!

It all depends on whether a person asks questions from an external source. That itself could be considered as dependence, but not necessarily. One could just open the golden door through which one could realize his own self, that would be wonderful. But man is afraid. Man needs courage. If a person is seriously injured, then I wonder whether it would be dependence or independence on the part of his mother to clean his launry or not. But then, no mother is omnipotent or omniscient. But the being you talk of - the creator of the universe - is believed to be omnipotent or omniscient. That is where the comparison falls apart. The problem in this world is that many people in this world are suffering terribly. There is too much of it. We ourselves are mostly responsible for it, our own unconsciousness. Some will cry out for help from a being which does not exist, while some others choose to get guidance from their own blessed self. Nothing could be more marvellous than this. Your statement that God's greatest joy is when we finally discover, understand and see makes me wonder what to say. It is laughable. This is the greatest fantasy in town, but when lies have been uttered over centuries, it appears as if the lie is the truth.

You say that asking a question from an eternal source is dependence??? Asking a question at all is just searching for knowledge.Sometimes learning does depend upon the views of others. You have a point if the son was badly injured, would it be right for mom to do that laundry? It might be ok, but I have seen badly crippled people insist on doing things themselves. One good crippled friend of mine gave me a great lesson in determination that I would never have gotten without him. There is suffering in this world. There are many reasons for it. Suffering is a relative thing. A mother suffering with labor has great joy at birth. An athlete suffering through heavy training has great joy at victory. I would go through great adversity if someone would understand. You have to get the entire picture before making judgements of suffering. As far as lies of the years, one must question everything for truth. Even long held beliefs must be questioned. First, one must be true to themselves. Thanks for all your comments!!

Asking from an external source- when the external source is hypothesis, or better still, is only an imagination or hallucination- is definitely dependable. There is much wishful thinking involved in that. Asking from reliable sources, especially when the source meets the demand of the five senses as well as the sixth sense is not dependable. Or even going beyond the senses. But then, the questions are dissolved. Questioning has its limits. It is the mind that qustions and mind is not everything. When man realises the consciousness that is hidden beneath the layers of the senses as well as the mind, man enters into a realm where there is neither dependence nor independence, but interdependence. To say that I do not want to help others becuase I do not want them to depend on me is selfishness. I too have seen crippled people doing their work themselves, but nobody can say that a particular person needed to be handicapped in order to do his work himself. There are also plenty of healthy people who do their work themselves. If your argument is that the doctors make a lot of money when people fall sick and so sickness is required, then I cannot object. If there was no sickness, then doctor cannot make any profit. But if anybody says that the sickness was needed in order for the person to grow or learn, then I have every right to disagree. I have seen many healthu people learning, searching and growing. It is a pity that you learnt a great lesson in determination from a cripple. Have you never come across a single healthy guy from whom you could learn great lesson in determination? I am not making any unnecessary judgement, but rather understanding situations throgh wisdom. Of course, one must be true to oneself. That iswhere the treasure is hidden and that is where God is nullified. Man has for long been indoctrinated not only in matters of God and religion, but also in many other aspects. Man has been indoctrinated that suffering is necessary, that there are lessons in adversity etc.. Lucky are those who see the reality through joy. You can choose to have a wide view and try to see the great lessons contained in peace and joy or you can have a narrow view and try to see mediocre lessons contained in suffering and adversity which may not even be really lessons, but only justifications to defend the misery which the world has gone through for centuries.

If no one ever had a health problem, would modern medicine exist today? No.Would all the knowledge and science be learned? No because you would not have to. Sure lessons are learned from many people not just crippled but being crippled doesn't take away the real person. It's just logistics.I know you think and probably hope that God does not exist. God does exist. You would really like Him if you knew Him. I hope one day you can get past your hurt to see what is reality. Everyone learns in time and we do have eternity. I know Frederick exists and I know God exists for I have had contact with both.

Yep, even if the god really exists we are completely independent and don't have to worry about him at all.

Funny how so many are spoiled and want it all fixed. What would we ever do without the challenges in our lives?? Not much. Thanks for your comments!!

by him do you mean God? If so I have a comment. Sure we are independent but should be living our lives how God would like us to and not just for ourselves. I understand if you do not believe in God that this may not make sense to you or fall in your belief system. But if you do believe in God...then God wants you to do works for him. I do however agree and understand with the poster. It is true that God is not just going to do everything for us. You have to be wise in your decisions. You can not say "God help me get a job" and not go look for one. Right?

Hi Codiecoco. God is very wise. Through the parameters in our lives and the people we meet and interact with,God will get learning for all of us regardless of those who refuse to see. Thanks for your comments!!

I am a believer that God provided us with all the things that we need. We just have to find our way around this universe to get hold of them because along with all these material things, we are blessed with freewill to decide on how we go about our lives. It is in our hands whether we pick the good and throw the bad, or otherwise.

Yes, you are right. And whether we choose good or evil, those consequences show up to teach us which was the right choice. There is more. When we see the bad choices others are making, it is a reminder of what the real answer really is. If only we could be as smart as God, we could avoid so many growing pains. Thanks for all your comments!!

Good discussion. I see you are getting the best of the atheistic and agnostic views from this...lol. It reminds me of what I heard a long time ago its hard to hear God when you have your mind and ears tuned into hearing the world (or worldly things) scream in your ears.

We are spiritual beings in our true natures. You can see this in the very young. The longer we are in this physical world; the more seduced we are into thinking that is all there is. Soon, we come to value all the material things over the spiritual things. Like you said. So many start to value the worldly things that they can not hear or see anything else. How many of these people ever find happiness? Once in a while when you point people in the right direction, someone remembers we are spiritual and that is where happiness and joy will always be. Thanks for tou great comments!!

that's a good story and an apt reminder. I also believe that God is never silent. He either says Yes, No or Wait. And the times that he seems silent is usually the times when he's saying Wait. And there is much to be learnt from waiting. Today's reading from Oswald chambers just reminded me that only when I am still, not asking intellectual questions, not fretting, that I can hear clearly what God has to say to me. So I must discipline myself to still my soul and wait upon the Lord! :)

Very good comment. To listen can be a problem at times for everyone. Everyone loves to do the talking. Patience does take time to learn. It does start by waiting. Thanks for your comments!!

Just to add on to this.... when we feel that we are not getting an answer from God, it could just be that the answer we are getting is a "No", to what we have asked for. In any case, He does answer us.

Well said bird123, We all are like the first family. we are dependent on others till we are not forced to be like the 2nd family. And whether to believe it or not, God always shows some or the other way for each of our prayers. It's totally on us how we takes the things. If we see the things straight, the things will go straight, but if we think thinks to be complex, then the things will go complex.

Those are some very nice words bird123. I have a brother who is now 26 and never had to do anything for himself. My mother does everything for him. Cook, clean, and wait on him hand and foot. As a result of this, he is 26 and never held a stable job, doesn't pick up after himself, and cannot even cook a grilled cheese sandwich. He is laid up on her couch and doesn't work therefore cannot help with bills. He always complains how his life is miserable and very boring yet, he made it this way.

Mom might think she loves him by doing all this stuff but isn't real love caring about the final results. The brother will never see results because he does nothing. The good news is that it is never too late to change.Perhaps you can show mom about love and results.Of course, God will handle things if nothing changes. One day your brother will be on his own. Thanks for all the great comments!!

Hello bird I absolutely agree with you. God will teach us how to be a better person but God will not make us stay in chair and He doing the rest. God make the first move and we do the rest but with His eye on us every time. God bless you

You are right. There are consequences to every action. If we do nothing, we usually get nothing. Oh, unless you have a mom 1. who will do your laundry and take care of you. Even that comes to an end in time and we all must stand on our own two feet. Thanks for all your comments!!

I know a man who told me that If God wants you here on Earth, He has to find a way to feed you. Yes, that might be true but I'm willing to bet He won't be sending steak. We are meant to achieve. Great consequences take some effort. Thinking is always a plus!! Thanks for all your comments!!

If GOD Says you YES, He simply gives what you asked for. If GOD says you NO, He is willing to give you better than what you have asked for. If GOD says you WAIT, He is willing to give you the Best you deserve. So keep faith in the imperial power, 'The GOD'!!!!!!!

God has opened many doors for me throughout my life but it was up to me to walk through them and to make the most of the opportunities. My belief in God has brought comfort during times of trouble...I have felt this in my heart as well as in my mind. God gave me the tools that made me strong and lead me to the place of inner peace that I now reside.
