Extra money vs full time income: I'm quitting my job

I just wanted to share with MyLotters a monumental decision I've made. I'm going to quit my job and work from home. After a year of working very hard to earn online, I believe I now have the tools and skills to earn enough online to stay home. This is a very scary move for me. I have worked since I was 16 years old, I am now 50. If I can't make enough, and I can't find another job, we could lose everything. I have set a goal of April 1st to put in my notice at work. I am looking into part time jobs near my home just in case I need one. My husband and I have talked about this at length, and the bottom line is that I am so miserable at my job that it makes me physically ill in the mornings, it is damaging my confidence and self esteem, and we decided that we would rather live in a tent than be this miserable. We have a small business that my husband runs, and by being home, I can actually help to increase the revenue for our business, which will help offset the loss of my paycheck. I will keep you all posted as the process unfolds. It's scary and exciting all at the same time.

Hi there, I admire your courage. I know how stressful it can be having to go to a job every day in a negative atmosphere. It sure takes a toll on your whole life and everyone around you, too. It's wonderful that you have your hubbie's support. That should help to ease the burden as you build your online income streams. I, too, am taking my online earning efforts to the next level in 2010. I won't be giving up my "real-world" income streams but am looking to my online efforts to help me work through a huge debt that I was stuck with after a nasty divorce. If you like you can check out my website that's listed in my profile for sites that I've been working with and been paid by repeatedly. There are lots of other sites that I work with that aren't listed on my website yet buy I will be adding them over the next week or so. I've sent you a friend request so we can stay in touch. I hope you'll accept me as a friend. Maybe we can help each other out a little in our efforts by sharing what we're doing and what we know.

I was in your shoes a few years ago, now finally the bills are paid and we need less to live on. I'll be sure and check out your website, maybe I can add a link to yours from mine. We can definately be a support to each other.

Well, before you quit your job I think you should make some savings for two or three months and then start your business and online working. Just as an insurance. Good luck anyway :)

I have put in to be accepted into your circle of friends. I wish you good success too. I too would like to make a little extra per month. I lost my husband of just over 50 yrs., April 30th, and am just lost without him! I can’t drive any more due to macular degeneration, causing me to be legally blind - - so I spen a lot of time here at my computer. I have a special program that enlarges everything in print within my computer, and online, and would be lost without it. My emailing and posting boards are my main source of interaction with humanity. But I am blessed to have my grandson pick me up for church on Sundays, and for several friends, who come from time to time and take me out to eat, or running around or both. LOL Good success to you and maybe some other folks will join together here and help one another find a little extra $$$ online. When one is ‘housebound’ for the most part, it sure is the God’s blessing. C. C.

Well, I must make a correction here. I just read my response, and at the end of my post, I read that I had added: "When one is ‘housebound’ for the most part, it sure is the God’s blessing." Why I posted that - - I know not - must have been out in la-la land LOL I HATE being housebound !! But I am doing my best to make the most of it. Maybe one day there'll be a new discovery that will bring a cure to this curssed disease/problem.

Goodluck firemom31! I think you've already done the most difficult thing. That is deciding to quit your job, and coming up with a plan to offset your income. The only not-so-hard thing to do now is following it up. I hope your experiences through life have rendered you wee equipped to tackle whatever burden you'll face in the future. Again, goodluck!

Hi, firemom31. I don't blame you at all. You have to do what you have to do. I have decided to stay home and work too. I have always wanted to stay at home ever since nine years ago. So this is something that I have always wanted to do. It is scary because you don't always know what to expect. But you will be okay. I stay at home full time and I do various tasks online. I would rather do this than be submitted to slavery.

It has to be very hard to come to the decision that you have come to, but you have to do what is best for you. I haven't worked in years, and now I am to the point where, I can't look for work as I am going to be 62 in a few weeks. I have looked and looked, but to no avail, so I decided a long time ago to find things to do online. I looked a long time there too. I had found things I htought were good, but they ended up being scams, and needless to say, I got discouraged real fast, but I made up my mind I wasn't going ot give up as I knew there was something out there that I could do, and when I found mylot, I then realized that I had takein the first step to making money online, even though it is small, but it all add up in the end anyway. Once I found mylot, then I started finding ohter sites where I can make money, as the users in here would tell their experiences with certainn sites, so then I thought I would do some of them, and I ma glad that I made that decision to do so, as I have not regretted it whatsoever. Good luck to you in all you do, and happy mylotting.

I wish the same for myself that after a year in the job I am at currently I am able to do the same. I have already given up on myself working for the same industry because I believe I am better off doing what I really am passionate about. But of course since I do not have enough funds to stay well fed and well taken cared of, I went back into working for a company again with the same industry I told myself I will not go back to. Well, good luck with your plans and hopefully you push thru with no hassle. Happy new year firemom31!

You sure must have worked out the pros and cons before taking this decision. You must have also taken into account online risks inasmuch as some of these sites just disappear. You must have also taken into account the slow pace at which sometimes pages move here. I wish you good luck.

That is a courageous decision you have taken. It is really a hard decision , may sound to you in the beginning . But i think when one becomes so experienced on making money then one must quit his/her job. HAT'S OFF TO YOU!!!! Best of luck firemom!

Are you in the US? Remember that the Social Security benefits (if there are any left) will be based on your last 3-5 years worth of salary. So when you do retire and start taking SSI then it will be much less. It is really hard to do something like this in your later years. I wish you the best of luck. I got laid off from work in August 2007 and decided to stay home and raise my kids so I know what it is like to lose a paycheck. But as long as you are happy that is what really matters.

hi lotter, first ,congratulation you leave your slavery life, i just graduate from my school last year, when i was in college ,i feel can do anything if enterprise need i to do.but when i really step in society i started make sport of myself, everything was so diffrent that i have to adjust my place ,after working ,sometimes you need to take other thing into account.if you lose something to do ,you maybe blame by your boss.although from time to time maybe not your negligence,i read above reponse, most of lot in support of work from home, but every now and then ,they didn't have bravery to make up their mind to give up jobs they did now, cause they need a offset accout to support daily expenses.lot make a so diffcult decision,i wish you good luck and can do anything you want!tks!

I appreciate your concern and decision. Its the matter of loving your job either you do it online or offline. My only concern regarding online earning has been regarding continuous earnings. There is no fixed earning from internet and moreover, if you skip one day, you won't earn. There is no syatem of leaves in online earning..lol:) But at your age, it is certainly a wise decision to better help your husband in his business and earn online at the same time to support him. I would liek to wish you all the best in your endeavours and surely i would liek to hear your success story

It takes a lot of courage to do what you've done - so, good on you for going for it and for having someone in your life who's supportive of the direction you wanna take. I'm gonna keep my fingers and toes crossed for you. Take care...

I got to hand it to you. Congrats on being able to figure out on how to make more than enough of working online and being able to earn income. I have been doing online work for over a year and so far, haven't made it where I would call it liveable income. I am 30 and am about to be a mother of four girls. My baby is due next month somewhere. I am however, am against freelance bidding sites because I have a problem where you have to bid on works where for most of the time, you won't get it against the other competitors. I am a freelance writer/blogger/online marketer and might need to work on doing other tasks online where hopefully, would help me make at least a ideal income per month or make more than that.

Hi Firemom, I envy your courage for making such decision, and I wish you good luck on your future endeavors. I too, want to stay at home and have more time with my family, coz right now I have an eight-to-five job that eats up most of my time, and while the pay is okay, it takes away much of my energy it makes me feel exhausted at the end of the day. I know I should be thankful because I have a job (while many others don't) but sometimes it makes me feel mentally and emotionally drained that I feel like quitting. I dream of leaving my job someday, but I haven't found a good stay-at-home job yet that could very well replace my current earnings. I hope I can do such a bold decision like yours. Let's hope this year is better than the one that has just passed.

Hi firemom31! I'm so proud of you! It really takes a lot of courage to do that. I used to have the same problem like you. I just quit my job last year and focused on earning online and my small business. So far, I think I'm doing good. I wish you all the best and luck. Hope your decision inspires other mylotters. Kudos!
