If your CPU is still running and the Monitor is somewhat, just in stand-by, its probably your video card that has a problem. Check if the exhaust fan of the video card is still spinning well or better yet, have the whole computer checked just to make sure which part is actually not working. Who knows, maybe the CPU has no problem after all and the part at fault is actually the monitor?

Well, if you are not really sure and perhaps, 'checking it' yourself might make the problem worse, you might as well consult a technician.
One time, our computer simply didn't work at all and we went to the computer shop to have it diagnosed. They found out that not only the video card had a problem but, also the fan the processor was not securely atteched so we ended up buying a new video card as well as a new fan for the processor..

I had a similar problem once when I upgraded my graphics card drivers but the problem could be cause by monitor too (more likely to be graphics card).
What I want you to do is boot in safe mode. Do you know how to do this? From memory, I think you have to tap F8 after the first POST screen (when you first turn on the PC). Select Safe Mode if it asks.

If the above advices does not fix the problem, check for viruses and sweep them thoroughly. Sometimes, viruses causes damage to your OS and the bad thing is that our anti-virus programs does not detect them. If no viruses really is detected, then back-up your files and try to re-install your OS or better yet, reformat your hard drives and re-install your OS.

It's a monitor problem. You now have a defective monitor. You need to replace it with a new one. Monitor prices nowadays is very affordable, you may replace your defective monitor now with a better one.
