Do you use leftover bacon fat

My husband loves ot have his bacon in the morning, and once done, we discard the bacon fat, but recently on an online forum many of the members says that they keep the fat and cook their vegetables with it. Apparently the bacon fat gives the vegetables a nice taste.
Do you save your bacon fat to cook with or do you discard it.

Honestly I may if I knew how to store it properly. But since I don't store it the most I do then is fry eggs in the same pan that I made bacon in with some of the fat removed in the same day.
In the olden days people used that as on of their main cooking fats before alot of the seasonings and oils we have now were available.

Otherwise I usually just pour the fat into an old coffee can I keep under my sink and when it's half full or more I put it in the trash so it doesn't go down the clog the pipes as we have bad enough plumbing in the house as it is.

Yes!! Admittedly this is a guilty pleasure. In a world of low fat, low carb diets it isn't as popular as it was in my grandmother's day. I just tell myself, "everything in moderation." If your going to save rendered bacon fat select good bacon. Thick cut Applewood smoked, or maple smoked works nicely. It's great on many kinds of vegetables(especially greens), beans, and anything other application where you may want to impart a delicate, porky, smokey flavor. I also keep the occasional ham bone in the freezer. A lot of people would throw away, but it's a great way to punch up my garden fresh vegetable soup. Another great fat to have is rendered from duck. Experiment a bit and keep on cooking. Good Luck!

I am from Kentucky, and I don't really think I know very many people who don't save the bacon grease and reuse it. I love to fry potatoes in it. I don't know if fried potatoes are a regional thing, but they are sort of like home fries. You put a little grease in a pan, cut the potatoes into small cubes and fry them. They are good with biscuits and gravy for breakfast...YUMMY!

We don’t have bacon all that often but when we do I do not use the fat for anything. It is interesting to learn that vegetables can be cooked with it and they can be quite tasty; it is something that may be worth trying because veggies that have just been steamed may be very healthy although a little boring so as a treat every now and again bacon fat can be used for cooking. It sounds rather nice and well worth the try! I have bacon on my shopping list now!
