When I am sleepy and need to keep me awake at least for a few more minutes ,I dont drink coffee ,I dont take pills ,I just go and wash my face and it gives me at least fifteen minutes before my eye shuts down totally. Does water have this effect on you when you want to sleep?

Hi ronnyb, I find washing face is one of the effective ways to keep me awake. Yeah, it will be pretty effective if washing both the face as well as the neck with cold water fresh from the fridge. I have tried to drink black coffee to stay awake but it couldn't work at all, but rushed me to fall asleep much faster. And eating snacks could keep me to be energetic for a short while only Here the weather in day time is scorching hot. I always tent to be drowsy when driving in a long journey after having luch in the afternoon. It would be a high risk to drive in a half drowsy state. No other way I have to keep myself awake and energetic by wiping my neck with hankerchief soaked with cold water from the thermo flask Take care and happy posting

Yes it does. Washing my face does wake me up but if I am really tired it will not take me long to fall asleep again. First thing in the morning I wash my face and I am right to go for the day and it works well when I’m dozing while watching T.V. but as I said, there are those times when exhaustion has set in that washing my face is unfortunately only a temporary measure. I don’t have coffee in order to wake up either, it has no effect like that on me whatsoever, I can drink coffee five minutes before bed and sleep like a baby without a problem!

A cold splash always keeps me awake, not very healthy really. It works enough for a while then I get a headache and need to sleep.

Hi, ronnyb. I have never tried splashing water on my face. But, I would think that it would work. The coolness of the water can make you feel energized and alert. But this is only for a short period of time though. This is a great energy booster.

To tell you the truth. I tried that coffee thing and it does the complete opposite. I thought I would be wide awake but it put me to sleep instead. The washing of the face will work but with very cold water.

Ya, I also do the same. When I have my board exams, I wake up in the morning by 3 clock and wash my face , brush and start studying. I cant study in the night. I tried so many times to do night study but I always slept.
