I went to the town yesterday accompanying my mom to buy groceries and it already past 12 before lunch. So we decided to eat in a nearby fast food as I queuing on the line with many people who just like us are in a hurry to be served as they really look hungry. So i saw all the different food item in array but despite of all the delectable choices. I grab my mom arms quickly and hurriedly to go out of the establishment. So my mom is quite annoy for what I am doing. So, I say to her, if she smell something bad then she reply "nothing" they are look nutritious and what seem the reason you left the places and so I say to her I smell something bad. The kitchen where the waiter comes out to carry the food smells bad as the room is open so I lose my appetite. Then, I also smell the table when the waiter just wipe it with a wet cloth and dry cloth there after and then he does not spray a deodorant liquid and the cloth which he used have been wipe already in other tables and so the residues smell still left on the table. Though, our eyes could not see the bacteria or germs, you could notice the smell. As during those rush hours the fast food establishment is so busy but they should not neglect the cleanliness of the places. Those kind of fast food are known worldwide and yet their service is fairly disappointing failing health standard in terms of cleanliness and hygiene.
If you are going to eat in a fast food then, What are your criteria before eating in a fast food so that you would not be disappointed? Kindly shares your thoughts. thanks.

hi neelianoscet wwow a bad odor, I have never ever seen or smelled any bad odors in the burger King which I go to'
ocassionally.here in the United States we do have strict
'health codes for restaurants and fast food places. They
come around in random checks and anyplace that does not
measure up can be closed until they do measure up. For smaller infractions they are given so many days to make the
changes necessary to bring their place up to code. Foul odors
would make the inspectors shut down the place at once.
In the Burger King which I used to go to, they were always'
cleaning the tables and the cleaning cloths they used never'
smelled bad.

hi hatley,
Yup, that is why I left the place immediately it so frustrating while the other people could content to eat at their heart delight without being disturb the unpleasant smell which is very different in my cases. I lost my appetite and I may better off to hunger strikes if I encounter again those arid smell it really makes me sick. Thus, from now on before i run into a fast food before entering i see to it the food, the tables and almost the surrounding smell like fresh air as one could have a happy eating when you have no doubt that the food you eat comes from a clean sources and cook to be delight one appetite. thanks

If it smells bad, you are correct not to eat there. Even if it does not make you sick from germs the smell would certainly keep you from enjoying your food. Fast food and anything else costs too much to not enjoy it and get the most out of it. Next time you may want to take a snack with you, like a piece of fruit or bread, to give you energy until you get home.

hi gardengerty,
Yeah, that right and although the table have been wife the smell of the table that has just been wipe still remain even if they already wipe it with dry cloth. So just by putting the hands on the table is kinda dirty to feel as one could imagine the invisible germs lurking so i decided entirely to find another fast food chain that is immaculately clean that would not spoiled my appetite. Thanks for your sharing your thoughts.

Is that a fastfood restaurant? are you sure? Well if I have experienced something like yours I will let the manager know. I will let him/her know that their facilities and establishment is awful. I think they will consider my criticism as it will give good to the establishment. I will never eat in that kind of establishment except when they promised some improvement next time. I much appreciate those establishment like that , that is concerned on the health of their customer. If they have a remarks booth or something like that I will definitely , I will be the first one to put my remarks there.

hi greychunny,
Yeah, it is well known in our country with branches in my place and you know it is pretty disappointing. The cloth use to wipe the table have already been wipe with the other clients table then just wipe again with a dry cloth without spraying thus the smell still stuck around on the table. Though, it is a busy hours and the crew have neglected the cleanliness i could not blame them but it still under the discretion of the manager or supervisor to make their place excelled not only in food but also in sanitary condition. So the main dishes were all noodles, halo-halo and you could identify already what fast food chain is that which in other places they are really excellent and it is only in my place where they fail entirely.

Well, i think u might be a little paranoid?? That's what happens in many eatery places and not only in fast food places.. UNless one is in a resturant, only then they will have very high standard of hygiene..
BUt when it comes to hawkers or fast food places, they only care about fast turnover, and as long as they do clean up after the customers, it's gonna be ok..
NOt all customers are as patient like u though, willing to wait for waiters to clear table, followed by deodorant it.. lol =D If u feel that the smell comes from the cloth, u can always tell the waiters to wipe it again with a clean cloth..
U are the customer, and u have evey right to request for things to go your way, if they are able to do it ^_^

huh...I am not that the real thing...i am so sensitive when it comes to smell, like what happen one time I eat in a food court with my sister she order a dumpling and eat it in an instant while when i am about to eat my dumpling, I smell something the filling smell, bad and when i taste it look like it not a newly cook food. So i just manage to bite little and put it in my plates undisturbed. So my sister is unaware of this as she does not smell the food whatever is serve in front of her and sghe just eat it in an instant which exactly the opposite of mine as i am more like to consume food which look, taste and smell good is my criteria of good food...So I do not like to bother anymore with the waiter as they are so busy with their work since i am already acquainted dining even in fast food or restaurant where the table is dry and does not smell. So the cleanliness of the place and the food is my top priority...

Hey neelian! I would have to agree with you! If there was something
that I saw that wasn't quite right or something that I smelled
that made me sick I would also have to leave the establishment
no matter what! I would also not be able to stay in that place
and continue to eat there! I have done that myself several times
even though the people that I am with thought that I was crazy!
It is not appetizing to eat somewhere that you feel is dirty
or disgusting! I would much rather leave and not waste my
money and feel uncomfortable! I am completely in agreement with
you on this!

We don't really eat out for fast food that often but when we do we normally just go through the drive thru. I know that does not mean that it is clean and probably means that it is even worse because I can not see it. You are probably right to just walk out of there and not order because there was more than likely a big chance of the risk of being food poisoned. Perhaps that smell was out rotting foods?

hi froggielover,
Yeah, it really ruin my appetite as i really feel hungry but the staff should be wary of those smell as it would drive their customer citing with a lot of competition all aspects of the business need to be improve in terms of cleanliness, not only the taste of the food, but should also includes the service and efficiency of services in order for them to become more admirable. The bad smell comes from the kitchen though the food does not smell bad the smell maybe comes from those letover food which just accumulate on their garbage.

hi flower,
yup, and not only it also from the garbage in their kitchen whom i suspect have been accumulated so it is entirely a lurking situation where one need to be cautious most of the time to avoid the food being contaminated one need to select a good fat food chain for own safety.

If I'm eating at a fast food place my expectations are not very high.
If I eat there I leve the food in the containers it came in, that has to be cleaner than the tables or trays there. If I take it home I put it on my own plates.
I've never noticed bad smells coming from the places I eat though.

hi nonersays,
Yeah, that is the wise things to do to ensure that whatever one touch is clean and hygienic thus the spread of wet tables that has just been wipe is not transfer directly to the clients as one sit by and put her hands up on the tables they have some awful smell or residues if not properly wipe.

I have experienced that too in a known fastfood, hope we're not talking of the same fastfood. I was so disappointed that i do not go there to eat since then. Maybe they are too busy to neglect such responsibility. Thre should be someone checking these establishments once in a while. I heard that in these fastfooods too vendos or soda drinks dispensers are dirty that she advised us not to order sodas in fastfoods. Even the tube ice they use for the drinks are dirty too. I hope the sanitary inspectors willl do their job. The problem is they can be bribed most of the time or all the time.

I make sure the place is clean, got good food, good service and the price of food is economical. even if the price is high i would still eat as long as the food is cleanly prepare it would not matter at all.

Oh gosh, how unfortunate your experience there.. I do hope it don't happen to me next time I eat on fast food restaurant. My qualifications of a good eating spree on some kind of street foods...First of all I will take a look if the food is clean. Sometimes there are bacterias and parasites that can be transmitted from the food handler himself or from the way the cook handles the food. Any person should be aware of this because this may be the portal of entry for such organisms causing diseases. When the food place is smelly then the association of unhygiene is evident. Better yet eat on another fast food chain and don't eat there anymore. THe discomfort brought by the smell is just secondary, what matters most is to prevent the ocurrence of diseases from the acquired organisms from the food. NIce topic you started here. Happy mylotting.

Ooh, Im sensitive about that too. I do love food but I still watch what I eat. Im sensitive about the cleanliness of it as well. A fly, a strand of hair or even just an unknown speck makes me scrutinize my food and lose my appetite altogether. It would be hard for me to trust the cook or the food establishment where I saw those impurities in their food. It would take me a very long time to even go in such a place or suggest that the person cook something. Id always be suspicious of everything that would come out of their kitchen.
A similar incident just happened today. More on the smells though. We took out stocks of sugar from a friend's house. While we were unwrapping the sugar from the plastic I detected a faint smell which I knew to be the presence of bacteria/molds or something that is already inedible. I told them about it and some agreed with me that's why we started searching from where the smell was coming from (we also had other food items on the table). I found it to be on the plastic which was made to cover a bag of sugar, then I spotted that there is also a smell coming from inside the bag of sugar itself. We investigated further and found all bags of sugar had the smell.
In my book, if something smells rotten like spoiled food, that would already be inedible for me. But we sought the help of someone who is knowledgeable about these things. She told us that it's the natural smell of brown sugar. She tasted a bit and told us that it's okay. It's still sweet, she said that if it wasnt sweet then it wasnt sugar. I learned something from that but it wont hide the fact that I still dont trust sugar with a certain smell.
