Are Natural Disasters Getting Worse?

It looks like natural disasters are moving from one country to another and wiping out human life. It is not getting any better.

Hi powermannx, I doubt that natural disasters are getting any worse, it's just that the world has gotten so much smaller. We are now living in a global village and we hear about these things as if they were next door, though they may be more then half a world away. This wasn't the situation even sixty years ago. There will always be natural diasters and we must be prepared for them. I am appalled at what's happening in Haiti and the world must be better prepared should it happen again. Blessings.

I would not say it is getting really worse. Just it is happening in areas that are more highly populated. As the world population grows...more people will be effect by natural diseasters. The earthquake in Haiti happened in a highly populated area....that was also a third world country....so the building were not built to withstand earthquakes. WHich meant when the building fell more loss of life. Add to that the fact that the country does not have the resources or agencies in place to handle any kind of emergency, much less one of this size and it means more deaths. Which is why the rest of the world is stepping in to help.

I don't see natural disaster being worse, they are just cyclic. We probably do not remember the previous cycle so we percive that the storms are getting worse. I personally feel that all weather patterns are this way and we will see a few more of these bad storms and then they will lull out again. At least this is what I hope will happen.

They may have gotten worse than from a few centuries ago, but its still better than the cataclysms that happeneded when earth was made, we are still a long way to those kind of events :D

I just think this is kind of a coincidence, but it is till very extreme!

i feel natural disasters are getting worse and the frequency with which they are occurring has increased considerably over the past decade or two. it's the cumulative effect of many factors.
