hi! im cooking 3x to 4x a day, and that's for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks sometimes. It depends on what and how many dishes im going to cook in a particular time.It takes only 30 minutes for me to prepare for breakfast, that includes rice, chicken noodles soup, scrambled eggs, and hot dog or spam. Time spend cooking for lunch takes 1 to 1 1/2 hour, including preparing and real cooking. But that does not include thawing time of frozen meat, which i thawed earlier. And with in 1 to 1/2 hour i can cook 3 dishes already, including sauteed vegetables, soup made of fish or meat, and fried fish or meat.Snacks takes only 30 min. or less.Dinner time, if there's some left over from lunch, then i have to cook one dish only.In between of my cooking, i can still open my account here in mylot and reply to some discussions that interests me.But i have someone to help me prepare the food i will cook and also wash the dishes afterwards. But there's also a time that i was the one who did it all.It is really time consuming and tiring when you do all the household chores. My suggestion for you is plan ahead or every night what you gonna cook for tomorrow. If you have to cook 500 grams of meat stew for lunch, make it 1000 grams so you could serve it until dinner, the same also with soup. But not with vegetables, because it will become overcooked when you reheat it.And to help lessen the plates you washed, you may use disposable ones. We're using that when i have no servant. And one more thing, peeling and crushing garlic is really time consuming for me, you may peel and crushed garlic in advanced and put it in a clean jar with lid and put some olive oil or canola oil to prevent it from getting spoil. That's it, you may ask me anytime, if you need some more suggestions.Hope this help. Happy Cooking!!!:-)

I will only be spending alot of time in cooking if i'm new to it, or that's the first time, i'm cooking that particular dish ^_^ IF not, when one is already used to cooking, everything will be so natural and smooth flowing.. hehe ^_^
Just like how i used to work in a cafe, to me, everything is simple, and i can do it fast, for i'm used to it, over the years.. BUt for someone new, they find it tedious as there are many steps, which might confused them and make them look clumsy.. haha =D

Hi Amyson,
When i am at home i love being in the kitchen to prepare food for my family and also help our helper in doing the housechores. my kids have their own roles too. my husband also help in the dishwashing. so, it's a shared responsibility. i prepared and cook fast though it depends to the kind of menu i prepare. but most of the time it's not time consuming.

i dont cook, my wife is the one who cooks. she is a good one. as i can say my wife is a multitasker. she cooks while there is something inside the washing machine and sometimes washing something on the sink. cooking does consume time but sometimes if the only thing she is doing is watching tv she prepares other meals in advance. so we will just heat it up and she has more time with our son and me.

Hi amyson! I love to cook, but it does take alot of time to
prepare meals and it definitely can be very tiring! I usually
only cook for me and my boyfriend on the weekends because he
works late and eats dinner at his job. He works in a college
cafeteria and sometimes brings home food that is already cooked
and if I like it I eat some of that during the week or I will
cook something quick for myself instead. But, on the weekends
I make us full dinners. Yesterday I made fried pork chops,
which is one of my boyfriends favorite meals. It is messy to
prepare and it takes time to cook! But, he helps me by washing
the dishes when we are finished eating so that is helpful!

Hello Amy
I don't mind cooking, or even the dishes and such. I think I've done it long enough to learn short cuts that perhaps make it easier. And there are many one-pot dishes that don't require a lot of time or dirty a lot of pans, so that helps. I make extra when I do cook, so that if I'm too tired or not in the mood, I have them in the freezer to simply reheat. But then I was raised in a family of 10, so anything since then, except for parties, has seemed like a breeze, even when my three daughters were home lol.

Hi Amyson,
I know what you mean. Cooking takes a long time and sometimes one wonders why bother.....but then as I sit to eat and look at the people's faces around the table as they taste what I spent hours preparing......well its all worth it.
I cook all the time. Dont buy pre-cooked meals anymore. I even make my own bread and cookies and cakes. Yes its time consuming, but I know whats in the food I eat, I know its fresh and I can control the quality also.
I wouldnt want to go back to restaurant food or frozen foods.
I noticed that if I plan it all well, make a list, buy what I need, then its not so bad. I can manage to take a full day of cooking and have food for 2 weeks or more (frozen of course lol)

Cooking healthy food can be labor intensive, but the pre-cooked meals are so laden with salt and sugar and other ingredients that should be shunned, that it is a problem. The ones that are a bit more healthy seem to cost a fortune, too.
So what it takes is planning ahead, and some experience in choosing foods that are easier to prepare. I make many things ahead to try to work through this, but sometimes when in a hurry or as you say too tired to deal with that, then I might go ahead and use a pre-cooked meal but then I healthy it up by adding better ingredients.
Another thing I do is to use food designed for one purpose for another. An example is those big boxes of cut up and pre-washed celery, cherry tomatoes, and carrots. From the warehouse stores they are not all that expensive compared to buying the veggies separately, so I put them all in a big soup pot with an onion and a can of chicken broth (or a chicken if I have one) and water and seasonings and cook them up, then add a can of gravy after to thicken it up a little. That soup is delicious and very easy to reheat.

Because I have a M - F, 8 to 5 job, I don't spend a lot of time cooking. I have a smallish repertoire of meals that don't take long to prepare. Sometimes on the weekends I do cook things that take more time.

When there are occasions I really spend a lot of times at the kitchen that I can't even check my emails. I really feel tired that sometimes I can no longer appreciate the food I prepared. For day to day food preparation however just few hours as I just cook simple recipes. Although for veggies it took sometime but still I could manage to do other things.

I am always busy and that is the main reason why I cook so rarely. But it is the reason why, when I find my time to cook, I do it with pleasure. It is just because |I am not sick and tired of cooking. I guess you cook everyday and it really annoys you. It does take a lot of time, especially if you are good at it and you are making complex meals. But it always tastes better when you do it yourself, does it?
