Ever have a panic attack?

I know only a small amount of people get them. I get them maybe 1-2x a year since I was 5yrs old. Scarey I can remember exactly where my first one happened when I in 5k. Well my hubby's work is really mess'n around with the schedule and I have to adapt my schedule at work 2x as often wich is making me nervous.... as letting them know promptly was a condition of me staying on I guess you could say. I think in the back of my mind I must be feeling like I'm pushing my luck keeping employed with them. And I shouldn't feel this way as others have schedule changes too for various reasons. Eitherway I totally hate these attacks and I got one last night when I turned in my newest availability change. I was praying it was only a quick one that lasted a few minutes but no I am not that lucky. I tossed and turned all night from the pain. I was hoping it would be gone by morning and it is to a degree but I still feel it slightly. I wish it would go away completely....

I am so sorry that this is happening to you. I only had it twice and it was caused by stress from my boss.It was not pleasant.. Perhaps you should see a doctor?

i was thinking about mentioning it the next time I go into the Dr. But really I have read a little on them other than trying relaxation methods the only other thing is psychiatric meds and they can cause them too. They don't know what causes panic attacks exactly either. Now if it was a daily-weekly occurance rather than a 1-2x a year occurance then I would consider meds. For now just trying to relax & breath deeply & drink plenty of water is the better cure to me. And I think once I get my shift over with tonight I will feel 100% though I feel 95% right now. I think a good nights rest will make the differance as well.

I had my first panic attack a few months after my boys and I moved out of our home and into a rental because my husband had filed for divorce. At least, I think it was a panic attack. My heart was beating a mile a minute, I felt a little dizzy and was overwhelmed by a sense of apprehension and fright. I had a couple other brief ones in the year that followed but nothing like that first one. I didn't know what was happening but a person where I worked told me it was a panic attack. Have you tried meditation or Yoga to control these attacks? It must be awful to have them on a regular basis as you do.

I have thought about trying yoga or something but to get the time alone to do it is a whole other kettle of fish or affording classes. But I bet if it warms up and I get back to taking walks while 2 of the 3 kids are in school it'll help all around.... I don't get them on a regular basis I must of worded my origional post incorrectly. I get them 1-2 times a year, I don't get them daily, weekly or monthly.... nothing I can put my finger on when it will or when the next time it could happen.

I actually got one this past weekend. Scared the hell out of my poor two friends that had to help me through it. One was relatively okay because I warned her what it was like, but the other one had no idea what was going on.

I don't think anyone even knew I was having one at work. As I don't get all in panic mode or anything obvious.... I react to it like a Charlie horse do what you have to do til it goes away. I hope yours didn't last long...

I too have suffered from panic attacks from time to time. More often though, they are anxiety attacks for me. I have a lot of anxiety based on all of the things that I have been through in my life. A couple of years ago I started taking medication for it, and that has helped a lot, but it doesn't completely keep me from getting any anxiety attacks. I think what I really need to do is to go talk to a psychologist about them and see if they would be able to help me work my way through them.

I don't feel like I'm panic'n my subconcious is talking to my body not my concious mind. Otherwise I'd always be in a panic with lifes worries.

I hope this helps you understand a lil bit. Not that they really know what causes it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panic_attack I usually feel the tightness in my chest & sharp chest pains, painful to breathe cause that increases or decrease the feeling of chest pains. I had it once where I was getting the chills & hot flashes from one wich by reading up on it I thought I had some sort of virus. But I had the hot & cold one around the time we were running tests before I had surgery that I was terrified of. And I think this last one was because my schedule is changing alot and I'm worried about loosing my lil job cause it's helping us keep afloat and w/o it we are in big trouble. It's hard to explain how it feels beyond a heartattack until you've had one.

I've only ever had a couple, both related to money. Happily once the credit union loaned me money and another time a friend did.

I get nervous and panicky sometimes, especially in situations like that... but I can't say I've ever gotten a panic attack. But I know how you feel, I don't feel right telling an employer I need to change my availability. I actually quit a job once because I was too afraid to tell my boss to stop scheduling me on Sundays, even though I'd said from the beginning I would not work Sundays. She had me scheduled for 5 in a row, and Sunday is the only day I get to spend time with all my family.. because hubby is off and the kids are home. I don't mind having to work an occasional Sunday, but not every single one for over a month. So instead of telling her so, I just stopped showing up. Dumb idea on my part... but it seemed the easier option.

Yes, I do occasionally have a panic attack. It doesn't happen every day, or very often, but it does happen. I think that I probably have more than one or two a year, but I can't put an exact number on it. I've had panic attacks probably since high school. I only found out within the last few years what I was having were panic attacks. In high school, I was having them, but I just didn't know what was wrong. I didn't think much of it back then.

I've had a panick disorder most of my life.I remember back in the 1990's it caused me to spend a whole summer in the house.I stayed indoors for three whole months.I still have the problem,I'm off my medication, and trying to get an appointment to get back on.I got an appointment in April, but they want me to talk to a counselor first. That annoys me,because I want to see a doctor directly so I can get a prescription.I probably should make other calls, that's too long to wait.

I had a slight one when I had to give a big speech in front of a good number of people at my high school. I managed to calm myself down before I freaked out too much. Still, those many eyes staring at you and listening to what you have to say, it can be a bit of an unnerving experience to say the least. I almost panicked big time but managed to pull myself together.
