Do You Wish You Could Just Pay For TV Channels You Want On Cable TV?

I haven't heard of any cable tv service offering this way. It would probably be too much of a complicated thing and a headache for cable companies to deal with when it comes to customers. Also channels would lose a lot of money since people wouldn't be obligated to have the channels along with the rest of the channels. I'm sure just about everyone would go for this if they only had to pay for the channels they selected. I would

Well I pay for alot of channels I NEVER use. Yes I wish if I called them and asked for these channels to be taken off my tv It would make me very happy and might just lower my cable bill

Here in the Philippines, we actually have that being offered to some subscribers. Basically, one starts off with a package of a few channels for a minimal amount and if you want to add more channels, you can add them up for an additional charge. So you will end up with more channels that you actually want to watch.

i wish we had that but theres too much money and business agreements tied to the cable companies here so i doubt it will ever happen.

I know I'd go for it, I noticed that we only watch a few channels but yet we pay for over 250 of them, but we can't ever find anything to watch. There are some channels that don't even show anything on them, like the sports channels, there's a bunch of them but only one or two ever show anything, and if you ask me I think that's a waste. I guess it would be a hassle for the cable companies to allow us to pick our own channels, wishful thinking I guess.

that would be a great Idea, we have cable TV and we pay $90 and hardly watch half the channels. a lot of them are Spanish Channels and Music Channels that we never watch but come with the package.

i watch mostly the same channels and yes i also have lots of those different type of music channels. i could do without the music channel that i just hear songs from altogether.

I would LOVE to be able to do this. I hate having to pay for a whole group, or tier, or package - whatever they call them - of channels just to get ONE that I like. Of course that would just be too perfect and people would like it too much so the companies would never do it.

i don't think it will happen because so much business is involved in so many channels.

We've always had network television... but I've always wanted to have the SciFi channel! It's the only cable channel I want too, so I think it would be great if we could pay for just one channel. I don't like the idea of having to pay a boatload for a cable service if I only want one channel.

Yes! When I had cable before, I paid almost $100.00 to order the package that came with the internet. I never watched even a quarter of them. If there were a plan where you could order 10 channels, I know what mine would be especially if you could change them week by week. They would be the Sci-fi channel, Animal Planet, Planet Green, Discovery and Investigation Discovery Channels, National Geographic, and the standard networks for Olympic coverage and then eliminate them after wards. So, I guess I could even make due with 7 channels usually.

thats an even better plan to rotate channels while also paying for the ones you want. thats the ultimate in tv satisfaction.

Hi Elmiko, I was just in the cable company the other day and a woman came in asking about this very same thing. I thought to myself, "what a great idea!". That would be ideal for me because I watch very little tv and I watch the same few shows. My bill would be next to nothing. It actually already is. There are a couple of channels my daughter would like rather than the others that I get and don't watch. To get them though would triple my bill. We just cope with what we have.

I absolutly wish I could. I don't need a million sports channels, just SPEED Channel & we'd be good ;0) Same with many of the other channels. But you know that will probably never happen unless they make some of the channels premiums where you say buy the basic cable & then pay for something like Disney Channel or HBO KWIM?? But they don't let you pick & choose wich is a shame.

Yes. I wish we could make up our own "package" instead of being stuck with theirs. In order to get a couple of channels I really want I am stuck with dozens I really don't want and never watch. Seems like they could put together a package offering X number of channels of your choice and price the packages at different levels. But I am sure everyone would choose the least expensive package and just add the channels they want, so the cable or satellite company would end up losing money that they could have made by forcing us to move up a level to get the ones we really wanted.

you know i have heard for years now that cable companies were thinking about doing that and i have answered a lot of surveys asking what i would want as if the cable people were making the surveys yet it hasnt happened yet.. i wish we could because there are some channels that are not worth crap and are a waste of space in my opinion.. i think they will lose money if they were to switch to it which is why they havent.. most people i bet would only want a dozen channels and well when there small packages are 30 and then they offer 200 if you chose just a few you would have to cut the cost a ton..

yes they would lose money for sure with all the business ties of the channels with the cable companies. i could see channels actually going out of business if this were to happen. well thats the way a free market runs or should run. i sounds easy for the cable companies to do but it would be complex and difficult because of all the business ties. the only way it would work if channels that didn't make it were willing to take a chance of going out of business. i would like to see congress stepping in and seeing if they could get this law passed but theres more important things for them to be dealing with right now.

The was talk a few years ago in congress of forcing cable companies to start ofering channels 'ala carte', letting the view pick the channels. I could definitely live without all the music channels and Spanish language channels. Also, here we have 3 Fox regional sports channels and the Fox Soccer Channel none of which ever interest me. Nor do the Golf, Tennis, or Do it yourself and cooking channels. Lastly, I don't need home shopping channels although with those, I think cable systems get money from the channels based on what sales they generate. Recently some broadcast companies, starting with Fox, have threatened to cut their signals to cable syatems until the cable companies pay them more. The Home and Garden Channel (coupled with DoItYourself) has also tried to do the same. The net result of this is that our cable bills keep going up. I know congree has more importantthings to do, but I'm going to write my congressman at some point to suggest forcing the cable systems to go ala carte, especially if they have no other local competition. With a recession on, I would think all congressmen would be interested in doing things to save consumers money. Except for the ones that get PAC money from the networks.

Our cable company now offers this but we haven't adjusted our subscription yet. They have a basic subscription and then you can add as many channels as you want and the channels have their own prices. Pretty cool service.

I would absolutely love to be able to pay for only the channels that i want. In all the various TV packages available, there are stations that I want, and some stations that I don't give a crap about. it would be so great to just be able to get the stations I want, and leave the others out.

Actually, here in our country, we have a cable company who offers it. You are able to choose the channels you want and pay for it at a rate. I'm just not so sure how practical it is.
