I was pretty scared of them when I was a kid. I hated being taken to a doctor. I do not know why I hated the couple of them that used to see me. There was no particular reason. Maybe I hated them, because they gave me injections. Or maybe, because they made me have all those tasteless medicines, or it can be because, they would not let me have too much of ice cream or chocolate. I do not know the particular reason. Even now, I do not like to visit a doctor. For minor fevers and coughs I do not consult a doctor. I am not scared of them or injections for that matter, but I really hate visiting doctors. Do you have that same kind of feeling?

when i was younger, in the prime of my life, doctors are bad news. that's because i only go to my doctor when i am feeling bad. but as we age, doctors become our partners. in short, they are good news. they guide is in our health programs and help us from getting sick. they are also very useful when we have lifetime diseases like diabetes and hypertension. they are our indispensable partners in avoiding complications from these and other diseases.

Indeed they are, bystander. They are our saviours. Without them, we will not survive. They are second to God. It is the most noble profession there is. You are absolutely right.

sagnik42 I am not afraid of doctors so much as I dislike going to my doctor as I know my weight will be too much, my blood pressure will shoot up, and because I do not go as aften as I should he may find something new wrong with me, also my doctor has taken care of me for years so I do trust him, but i find it hard to go unless I am feeling dreadfully ill. lol lol lol.

I am with you on this one. I have to be seriously ill in order to feel like going to see the doctor, or have a problem that will not go away. I am more afraid of the price tag.

At your age, I think you should go for regular checkups. However, my grand mother is 87 and she also does not really want to go to a doctor. She has a lot of faith in him (who is actually a close friend of her son), but still she would not go. She is afraid of the doctor telling her about new problems and giving new medicines.

I dont like to visit doctors either. Its not that im scared of them. Its because i dont trust them. Pay attention next time you go, they say stuff like...."I THINK you have this or that LETS TRY this medication and SEE WHAT HASPPENS." Its like we are test subjects.

That is a bit too harsh JD. The doctors say those things because, we are different and we react to medicines differently. Some are allergic to specific kinds of medicines. The doctors cannot know everything by doing a regular checkup. Think about it again, please.

Even for that you will need a doctor. And if you can do it all by yourself then it is really good for you. Best of luck being your own rat.

There have been a few individual doctors that I haven't liked or have had very little confidence in but, luckily, no, I've never been scared of doctors. Whilst I have respect for their position, I dont feel intimidated by them. I consider my health to be something that we work on as a partnership so will ask questions, state my feelings, listen to their advice and, maybe, share a few lighthearted observations. I dont particularly like some of the stuff thy have to do but, well, needs must. I dont go for trivial ailments because I dont want to waste their time.

Right. That is very sensible and it saves a lot of money in the process. You seem to be very mature and know what you are doing. You sound pretty confident as well. That is very nice and I hardly meet people like that.

Yeah right. But I thought I had more than enough reasons to be afraid of injections. The whole thing and the process looked terrifying to me. I still get a bit scared when I see an injection but then I tell myself, I am grown boy and can withstand a small needle. Usually I can.

dude i swear i never knew you were with an discussion----offlate i have been coming accross some scary stuff and i'm missing out my friends discussions I have seen your discussion in the Mylot digest----congrats you had another one in the top one's man coming to your topic----i hate them too man----but i would be forced to have those tablets when i get fever and the first thing he would ask me when i visit him is if i'm comfortable having an injection i would say NOPE---so he prescribes some medicines and then i use them---worst part is i have to settle for bread and easily digestable food--this makes it much worser. On the whole i hate this Fever---which drives me to a doctor. great day.

Oh! I did not see it myself. That is why I am getting responses all of a sudden. Told you getting in the hot list helps. You get an injection just for having fever? I think you should change your doctor. Well, the non spicy easily digestable food is not very good, but my mother cooks them pretty well and they taste delicious even when I am sick.
@sagnik42 (3592)

You poor kid... Try making something on your own. It is difficult to make anything when you have fever, so what you can ask your mother to do is give you soups of chicken or vegetables accompanied by bread toast. Those really taste good, relatively healthy and are easy to make. Fever makes all food taste bitter. So these kinds of soup combos go very well. Ask her to add a little bit of butter and black pepper to enhance the taste and you will feel good and strong.

haha you have an good topic so it climbed up the digest man---so it would be visible to many mylotters on their home page hence you get more responses. My doctor would ask me first if i'm comfortable having injections after that he prescribes some medicines. My mom would not let me have normal food---she would be at my back with those bread slides and juices she doesnt even let me have my favourite noodles thats why i hate fever the most

I am not scared of them, I just hate to go to the Doctor. I think mine is trust issues. I just do not trust them. I have felt I was missed treated as a child. I was held down, and had to take shots, I think this has stayed with me. Have a great day.

I'm not scared of Doctors, its just that I don't trust them. First, because of their education Time and Cost, it seems to me they believe they are above the rest of humanity. Secondly, its because they are taught to be narrow-minded (because they are prone to lawsuit they must be) Doctors will not listen to their patients problems. They will not prescribe unless there is money in it for them. They will not consider homeopathic medicine even tho much of it has been proven. (there is no money in it for them.)Maybe Doctors are Angels from Heaven, but it does not appear that way to me.

Perhaps we Need some Homeopathic Hospitals. Doctors have been over prescribing antibiotics for years and now we have hospitals filled with super-bugs, immune to everything in the pharmacy. No one knows, (Except God, and She won't tell) how many of the old, the sick, and the degenerate, are succumbing every day to the untouchable Germs, Bacteria, and Viruses, that are harbored in our Hospitals by this common practice of over prescribing.

No matter what you say, they are the ones we go to and seek help. Tell me, how many hospitals have homeopathic medicine? Plus it is hard to find a good homeopathic doctor whose medicines work. My father has found one out and his medicines really work but they are very few in number. It really seems to me that USA is not good in medicine. This is the second time someone has said things like these in this discussion. But, I cannot believe they can be that bad. You just need to find the good guy. Thank you for the response.

I am, when I was a kid but not really that scared. I was so sickly when I was little and every time I get sick, as expected, I get to taste the aching moment of injection. Until now, the sight of being injected scares me but it’s tolerable though. Recently I went to a dentist for an extraction and the pin got knuckles whitened for holding the chair so hard when she was about to inject it. My companion and the dentist kept on laughing at me. hahaha..

I know exactly what you are trying to say. I have an aunt who is like you. She researches everything and then tries to discuss and argue things with the doctor. But unlike you she does not understand that her behaviour irritates everybody else. Her daughter, that is, my cousin, is terrified of her and never go anywhere with her. She is very comfortable with her father but when it concerns my aunt, she would not go anywhere with her, because of her nature. Actually my aunt argues at every given opportunity and my cousin gets very embarrassed because of her.

I don´t hate Doctors but when your Children are small and you have to keep taking them to the Doctors some of these Doctors get to be quite nasty not the same as on the Television lol. I had to change my Doctor to be able to get the right treatment for one of my Sons if I had not done this he would still be quite ill with asthma. Now it´s almost cured.

My only fear with doctors are that they rarely seem to listen or know what is really going on (if they do, they do not want to say)....I watched both parents die of 2 different kinds of cancer within 4 months of each other and it was like pulling teeth to get a reasonably straight answer on anything. Then as they are both at the last stages, the doctors are more concerned with their cholesterol or sugar levels than much else...I am like "Huh?" Does it matter at this point? Then I have watched as they put my granddaughters though a bunch of tests and hospital visits only to still not know what is making the poor little ones sick. Does it take a rocket scientist to say "hey maybe allergies or their modern fast food diet or something in the environment" ? Seems if they cannot give you a pill for it, operate on it, or tell you it is all in your head, then they are lost. I have so little faith in Doctors, and I have not had insurance to go to one since 2004. So fear of doctors may be something we develop as a child because of bad experiences or may be something we develop as adults because of bad experiences. I would give anything to find a doctor that I could trust. I realize they are human too and can make mistakes, but could we have just a tiny bit of common sense in how medicine is practiced in the USA? We like to think we are the best at everything (not that this is a fact, just something we like to think) but we are way behind other countries in the field of medicine! Tragic isn't it?

You do deserve proper service. If you are not getting them, then it should be protested and changed. Well, nothing is that easy, but someone must take the first step. While commenting to the responses in this discussion I came across another member who, like you, was not satisfied with the doctors of your country. It struck me as odd. I do think there can be problems in your country with regards to health care. We also have a lot of problems in India with doctors being inefficient and not hard working or something like that. But I will also say, that we really have good doctors in here and the percentage of good doctors is much more than the bad ones. As far as the insurance policies and companies are concerned, I do not know about them. I have never used any of the insurances. My father used his some 3-4 years ago when he had a retina surgery and there was no problem, the treatment was very good. Yes, my experiences have been good, while yours have been bad. So it varies from person to person. There is good and bad in every country. It is just that the majority determines things. If the number of bad doctors or bad policies of government are more than the good ones, then it should be improved. It is really sad that in a country like USA, they do not provide proper service and do not look after the health of their citizens.

I understand your reaction to my comment and perhaps I did not explain myself well. My parents were not under cancer treatment because in both cases the cancer was not treatable by the time it was diagnosed, which is why I felt all the other concerns were a bit unnessicary. Perhaps most are real caring, dedicated doctors that have their hands tied by insurance companies and just come off as giving minimal or poor care, when the reality is that they can only do so much or have to do things in a certain way. Is it possible that the concern for sugar levels for a person in the last stages of cancer, was the only way they could also give them the needed pain medication? I am willing to admit that I may be a bit overemotional about this topic and critical of doctors as a group. However, my experiences with the medical proffession has not been good, I do realize that there are other things behind this beyond just the doctors themselves, like government regulations and insurance company policies but the question was, Do you fear doctors? I did not always have a fear or dislike for doctors, there was a time when I had full trust in them and I did not wake up one day and feel this way about their proffession, experience has taught me to not trust them, and where there is not trust, there is fear instead. I am sincerely happy that your experiences with the medical proffession has been better! I just think that people need to take a stand here and demand better care on the local level than we are getting. We hire proffessionals when we have a need, they are paid very well for their services...and we have a right to expect better care and consideration from them!

Hi sagnik!^^ I'm really not that scared of seeing a doctor. When i was a kid though, i really didn't like going to the clinic. I didn't like being examined for my sickness. I always used to have tonsillitis and the doctor would make me say Ah and insert a small ice cream-like stick to my mouth and press my tongue so he can get a better view of my tonsils. it always make me feel like puking. and i didn't like the medicine he always gave me. it's too bitter even if the flavor is strawberry. Now I don't usually go to the doctor anymore. With minor coughs and fevers and cold, i just do water therapy and take a lot of rest. It's not that i hate going to the doctor, it's more like, i'm too lazy to go to the clinic. it's too much of a bother to me.^^;; but if it were a serious condition, of course, i would be forced to see a doctor.^^

Secretbear, that response made me smile. I could relate to that experience so much. I also felt like puking whenever the doctor examined my tonsils. I did not have tonsilitis, but sometimes, when I caught cold, he would take a look at my tonsils. It took some self control to stop myself from vomiting all over the doctor.

I am not afraid of the doctor, I even asked for an injection addictive. What makes me uneasy in the hospital was smell of medicine that makes me nauseated. I don't like the doctor with a very expensive cost, and asked us to visit each day to the hospital if we are ill. Moreover, if only mild pain I feel quite in-patient at home rather than spend money for treatment.

Yes my friend! I used to be scared of doctors when I was a kid. I was always afraid of the syringe with needles. I hated to take injections. But when any doctor prescribed me to take sweet medicines (e.g. syrups, vitamin tonics with fruit flavours) I became happy. But I'm not scared of them anymore. I've taken a number of medicines on various reasons in my life. At last I've decided to give up the habit of taking allopathic medicines. Therefore, I seldom consult a doctor. I rely on herbal medicines most.

I understand why you might have those feelings for doctors. I do not trust them with my life nor would I trust them with children. I am not scared of them, but more scared of what could happen to people's lives if they trust in a doctor to take care of them. I guess that could answer the question. The thing is that only you can be the doctor of yourself. If you want to eat ice cream and chocolate, well that is your choice.

Not really, anthony. We cannot be our own doctor. Then everybody would have been a doctor. I do not think, you can fix your broken arm all by yourself or do an operation on your body. We are qualified and we do not have the necessary knowledge. That is why doctors are so respected and required in the society. They look after us and keep us healthy. What we want to do with our life is our choice, but doctors are there to see to it that we have that 'life'.

Yes, but then the life we have is also very expensive. The most precious thing there is. So, even if they are serious, with less smile and grumpy face, we have to rely on them to keep us healthy.
