i was watching will smith movie sometimes ago and i couldn't believe that he was talking about dogs having dreams and i wonder how possible could that happen, is there a scientific back up for this and is it possible for dogs to remember exactly what they have dreamt

yes dogs can dream too
my dog moves her mouth, and sometimes even gurrs when she in in sleep. a couple of days back i saw her moving her legs vigorously while sleeping. and on another occasion, she was sleeping, suddenly she woke up and started eating all her food. it was so funny but i think that its all because of dreams

Dogs (and other animals) certainly dream. Dreaming is a form of memory activity and can be described as a way of sorting and processing the vast amount of information that we store in our short-term memories. Dreams often have to do with problems we have encountered and which we have not had time to evaluate and deal with or solve properly.
Dogs and other animals have brain functions very similar to ours (it would be truer to say that we have very similar brain functions to other animals) and dreaming is part of the process used to organise experience and memory.
Whether you remember things in the way that I or anyone else does is hard enough to say; whether dogs, cats, apes and dolphins remember things as we do is even harder to say because the experience of remembering cannot be scientifically evaluated without the use of language (though it can be demonstrated that both we and animals remember).

Yes dogs dream...and as far as "scientific back up" well I dont know if there is any or not but being a long time dog owner there are times when its obvious that my dogs are dreaming and there are times when they are obviously having nightmares...

I know for a fact that dogs have dreams because I have seen puppies that have nightmares and cry in there sleep, it would be cool if we could see what there dreams were!
