An overclocker at XtremeLabs.org reports getting the clock speed of a 3.06 GHZ Celeron processor up to a blistering 8.20 GHZ, setting a new world record in the process. He beat the old World record by 16.8 MHZ. Although the speed is impressive, we didn't get to see any benchmarks of this speed monster. So I guess the most amazing achievement here is that the processor didn't melt running almost 3 times it's original speed.
If you have more info on this or any comments, please post them. Thank you.

Lol, yeah. Guy used liquid nitrogen to cool the processor down.
Anyway, here is the link to the story, and some screenshots too. Thanks for the comment.

ha ha...that was really amazing..till now we heard of normal liquid cooled heat sinks for processor. This guy goes far beyond this by using Liquid Nitrogen. Man...it would cost a lot to cool this rig for just few hours.

Thats really a worth listening to news.
As far as the question of overclocking goes, the 8+GHz processor will melt down immediately, after it takes a little load. such overclocking is for demonstration purposes only. its practically impossible to play high end games with such overclocked processors. also while you overclock, you put a deep pressure on your motherboard and psu. both have to work hard with your processor in order to provide it with extra juice. so along with your processor you are decreasing the life of your mobo too.
To reach that limit of speed, liquid cooling has to be used as overclocking is not a problem, its how to keep it running at temperatures that will shoot up when you increase the speeds, is the main problem.
Water cooling and nitrous oxide has to be used to keep the processor from melting.
Overall, it takes all the knowledge of an expert, to reach that speed

OMG,,, thats truly insane...a celeron overclocked to 8.2Ghz. I think in future we might see core 2 duo/extreme/qaud achieving 8Ghz for regular/home computing purpose.
Well, its pretty impressive that the guy who overclocked it managed to break the current record.Hats off to him....
I'm just wondering how will i overclock my C2D processor from 1.86GHz to 2.2GHz/2.6GHz.
Didn't have any way to get it overclock though....nor anyone can overclock it!!!!!!!!

hi! are you sure about that, because I think it is impossible to overclock the processor on such value- from 3 to 8 GHz, maybe it was a joke or something like that! And how did they do it? I am very curious about it!

can you imagine the HEAT on this thing? Especially since it's such an older processor. I'd sure like to see it running though haha.
