Living in a small town, I enjoy watching news from large cities so I tend to watch WGN Chicago almost every day at lunchtime. Today they were advertising that Facebook was going to start charging $14.99 a month in order to be a member. They followed up with a disclaimer by Facebook saying that it just isn't true. That got me to thinking. I know many become addicted to Facebook & made me wonder how many would retain their addiction if they had to pay to play. So, would you be willing to pay to play on Facebook or would that be a deal breaker for you??? I've never been a member of Facebook so I don't understand the addiction. Will you please explain why you will or won't pay to play???

NO WAY! I'm barely active there as it is. Mostly because of my kids, really. I would just spend more time on mylot. ha ha Why? Competition is such, that since no other social networking site charges to participate, if one starts, it will disappear and people will just go elsewhere.

Personally I feel this is only a rumor, and as a member of Facebook if it ever became True there would be many people not accessing the site at all to the point it would be never visited hardly. There have been the rumors about Yahoo going to charge, etc. and personally I feel it is just something that people do just to stir up troubles. But Facebook is a great way to also meet New people and dp other things on as well.

Facebook insists that it ONLY a rumor. I don't care one way or the other as I don't plan on signing up there even while free. I remember several rumors here at myLot that said Admin was going to shut us down. Seems they were ALL false!!! I was MORE interested in WHY people are addicted to Facebook than IF they are going to charge.

I have never been a Member at Facebook and have no intention to be, but I know a lot of People that are including my Children lol I believe that a lot of People would come away from it if they had to start paying I know my Children would, my Daughter will not pay for something that she does not think is necessary lol and neither do her Friends If this happened I reckon someone else would start a similar Site to Facebook and everyone would go there as it would be free I don't know the addiction to Facebook and have no intentions on finding out lol

I have NO desire to join Facebook. However, even the threat of charging makes my desires become MUCH LESS!!! You better watch your bank account...Gissi just might think it's a GREAT idea & give them your banking information!!!

I'm not a member of Facebook either. Gu4ess you and I are in the minority. Just don't have the interest right now. I know plenty of people who would pay the $14.99 a month to stay on Facebook. Our kids have really enjoyed being a member since they have been able to keep up with their high school and college friends. Saw a program yesterday on television where a young, college student is so addicted to Facebook that she leaves tons of messages all day so her friends can see where she is and what she is doing from the time she gets up until the time she goes to bed. It's been a fun and informative site for so many members so I can't knock Facebook since I know very little about it. Have a good weekend, carolbee

Well the games that you can use or play in the facebook are just a flash games. You can find it anywhere inside the world wide web. The difference between that is, the games you can play in facebook is a flash game that you can only play on facebook. But if facebook will charge us with the usage of their site. I know there will be flash games like farmville that you can play without facebook. Remember there are too many hacker in this world.

Seems I was on one site that offerred to sell you farmville for $6.99. That's less than one month of Facebook & it's there on your computer to play ANY time you feel the urge!!!

Hi LadyM, I think most people really cannot afford to pay will pull out, they may go else where to play free, but I think it will be awful as Facebook takes away a lot of stress and they can chill out and play with their friends, as for me I am on Facebook and I don' often correspond with anyone, I just go into my Faiyland and play as it is helping the Rainforest, but it won't bother me as I would just pull out and leave. I use myLot to relieve my stress!!! I can understand why they might need to charge, but $15/month seems kinda steep to me!!! They have around a quarter million members & I seriously doubt that it costs them a quarter million dollars a month to keep it up & running smoothly!!! I think it sad that greed would make them run off the loyal members that they have!!!

I wouldn't pay for it, but I'm not really an addict. I only have one to keep in contact with friends who are addicts. I'm not into the whole social networking scene anyway. I highly doubt they would start charging for it since most of the allure of it is that it's completely free. If they started charging they would instantly lose more than half of their audience. There's no need to mess with a good thing.

One thing I like about Facebook is that it's for free. If I have to pay just so I can access it and play games, I would just terminate my account with them. Besides, I can still play games online or otherwise in other sites or simply by installing games in my pc.
