I have read Catcher in the Rye twice, and had two very different responses. The first time I read it, I was in junior high and thought that the book was so interesting and really liked all of the adventures and things that happened. Then I read it a year ago and thought what a spoiled and pampas child he was to act like that rather then coping with life. What do you think?

I love Catcher in the Rye. I read it for the first time 21 years ago. I still read through it often. If it isn't still required reading at some level it should be. Besides, it's a great source for obscure trivia.

I never read it as required reading, I think that many high schools do require it. It definitely is an interesting book and take on people.

i was suprised to hear that Salinger passed away. i am like you and read in school and liked it and agree that with the passage of time and after gaining some maturity, the book seems to have a different spin.

Thank you for your comment. It is interesting that you have a similar experience. I know someone who liked the book better when he got older.
