I was looking at my wall calendar earlier and realized that tomorrow is February 1. Wow! January of 2010 just passed by like a breeze! Then came a thought in mind... There are only 28 days of February this year and next year. There will be 29 days in 2012. Do you have friends who were born on the 29th of February? How do they celebrate their birthday? I do not really have friends who were born on February 29 but I know of some people who were born on the 29th of February. One of them, my former student. She told me that she celebrates her birthday on the 28th instead as she wants to celebrate her birthday annually and that she wants to feel normal. I wonder how other people deal with it.

Hey dolce! I think that most people who were born on February 29th
or "Leap Year" as we call it here in the US do celebrate their
birthday on February 28th! They have to or they would only
celebrate once every four years! So, as your student said, to
be normal they would have to celebrate on February 28th or
March 1st and I think that most people pick the February date
to feel closer to their "real" birthday!

My mom is born on February 29th. She celebrates on the closest Sunday to her birthday.

My step-daughter Ashleigh was born on February 29th. Every four years she has a big party, but we always aknowledge the "off year birthdays" on the 28th of Feb, or Mar. 1st. Ash doesn't live near us (we're in Canada, she's in the USA) so we aknowledge her birhtday over the phone, on the internet, and by mail.

Here in our time zone, tomorrow will be January 31st. Then the next day is February first. But on February first it is my sister's birthday. It seems like I know a lot of people born in February. I do not know anyone with a birthday on February 29th, but I do know someone who has a birthday on February 28th. She missed the leap year problem by a day.

Yes, I do know someone who was born on that day. We often tease him considering that he cannot celebrate his birthday every year and most likely he is still very young considering that his birthday does not come all the time. But he does celebrate his birthday just like your student.

I used to have a best friend who was a leapyear baby. Her name was Karen. Technically, she only had a birthday every four years, but when she had a non-leapyear, she just celebrated her birthday on the 28th.

I used to know someone in middle school who did but I don't remember how he celebrated his birthday. I find this whole leap year thing very interesting. I used to be confused about what it actually meant but now I know and I wonder whether those people feel weird about it.

Let me count them first. I have two relatives whom I know whose birthdays fall on the 29th of February. Then one of my classmate in high school, and one friend in college. Another one in my work today and one with my wife's friend. That would be 6 people I know personally who was born on leap year. Some of them always joking around that they are very young of age as they only celebrated their birthday every four years. lol.

I had a friend in college that was born February 29th and he would celebrate the birthday, March 1st, and every 4 years then he would celebrate it on february 29th. It is strange to celebrate your birthday in 2 different dates but it was not a problem for him

I have a friend who was born on the 29th of february. He celebrates it on march 1. He said he had the option to either celebrate it on the 28th or 1st of march. It must be really special for them if they get to celebrate it on a leap year.

i do know someone whos celebrating his birthday on that day. grandfather of our friend. but he celebrates his birthday every 28th of February. his 64 years old, so if you divide that by 4, its 16. if we follow the original date, he's much younger than us because of the leap year. i do know someone also that they changed his birthdate, from feb 29th o 28th.

I do really have no such a friend born in Feb.29. If yes, they do celebrate their birthday in TRADITIONAL CHINESE CALENDAR.And they would never miss any birthday.
Being born in Feb.29 is not a big thing, the key is how you look at it.
That is my opinion.
