I had just responded to an interesting discussion, and typed in "to paraphrase an Indiana Snog ,it doesn't snow in California in the Winter time. It even passed my preview and i saw it after it posted. So I comment, please forgive, that was song, to paraphrase an Indiana song, It doesn't snow in California in the Winter time. Have any of the rest of you mylotters ever made a blatant goof which totally either screwed up the meaning of the sentence or was just plainly silly and made no sense. Snog might be a word but it was not the one I wanted there. any opinions please?I mean I don't expect mylot readers to have to guess at what I was attempting to say.

I honestly thought your title said "to paraphrase and Indiana Song"! I read right past typos and while I notice them in my own typing, I gloss over them in others'! I'm so used to doing that, it doesn't bother me. I get very irritated with myself, though, if I let one get past me when I'm doing the posting!

They say that our brain automatically puts the letters in the right place to make sense.

hi dragon and garden gerty yes I do do that all the time in reading others discussions but feel awful when it happens in my own posting. And spelling checker did not help as snog is a real word according to the dictionary meaning to kiss. It is a British term.

Oh I do it all of the time - especially since I have lost spell check again. Just so not see the mistakes. BTW the word snog was used in my teenage years as a slang word for kissing

hi cynthiann yes I have spelling checker on my mozilla firefox but'when I looked up Snog it says its a British slang term' meaning to kiss so spelling checker would not touch it. ha ha. So reading that unchanged to paraphrase a Indiana snog or kiss that sure does not make much sense.

Hi GardenGerty oh I do that a lot to or I will type ot instead of to or eht instead of the, it so frustrating when you just thought you had it all polished and error free then to find one's dyslexic fingers did a number on one or two words in the' whole discussion.

I proof read a publication before printing - anything from 20 to 50 pages or more. I again proof read the hard copy. Satisfied, I print 100 or more copies. Then I bind the pages and pick up one of the finished products to admire. I flip through the pages . . . and what is the FIRST thing my eyes fix on? You guessed it: one missed typo! I've looked for a poem I had about a typo but I can't find it. If I do, I'll post it here later.

hi cloudwatcher I can imagine how you felt after all the care you took and then fine a typo the first thing. What amused me is that snog actually has a meaning. to kiss womeone. Its a British slang term meaning to kiss.

I have had a few occasions where I didn't spell a word properly but it didn't grab spellcheckers attention nor my own until it was too late. Typos are such a common experience on the internet that I don't think anyone really is bothered that much by them

hi fwidman oh me too more than once. Here it was because the word snog is also a real word, it means kiss in British slang terms so I typed to paraphrase the Indiana kiss it doesn't snow in Southern California in the winter. It just rains. which was not what I really meant but I imagine most people saw I had mistyped the word song and read it right anyway. hope so.

I think we all have submitted and had something spelled wrong or used the wrong word and usually see it just as we have submitted the post or after the fact in which then it is too late. Usually though, I can make out what a person is trying to say just by the context of the discussion.

Oh, yes! I've made plenty of typos like this without realizing it, lol! After I've posted it, it's too late to correct it,. Sometimes I will respond back and say that was a typo. Most of the time I will read over it before I post it to make sure there are no mistakes. I don't know if "snog" is a real word, either,. That's funny! Kathy.

hello Hatley, I did,i had few topics here with wrong spelling and too late before i could realize about it. And,no matter how i tried not do the same mistake, still i had few errors again and again. I don't know why, maybe becoz,it's not my habit to preview my post. Sometimes i did review/preview,but most often..not,and just post the topic/response right away. I hope we can delete or rewrite our topic again,it made me looks funny reading my topic with errors(ugh!!!) Have a nice day always

Hiya Hatley, Needles to say whoops there I go again that´s what you call a "Goof"? Even if it does not snow in California it must rain "raining here, here in my heart" surprised no one has heard of this American Song or Record or Cd whatever. Yes have made many spelling mistakes quite a few and only realised when I hit the post button and then you can´t go back and correct it can you?

Pretty funny and yes, I have done that many times. I've done it on my own websites and blogs and even in articles I've written on the internet. At least with my own sites and blogs I can go back and edit it once I discover the error. It's really interesting to see what can get through spell check. It sure doesn't catch them all and a lot of the errors I make are just that kind, typing the wrong use of a word, like misusing there, their or they're and they usually get through. Another thing I do is mis-type the letters of a word in the wrong order. I've typed sing in place of sign many times and spell check sure doesn't catch that one. It can make for some interesting and funny reading at times though... So, I think I'll go sign a snog...

I normally check the spelling of the words and my system will prompt the mistake and I will correct the mistakes. We should take a look at least for a minute before submitting to avoid such mistakes.

My mother never understood about spell checks, until she realized that we type things that we might not actually write with a pencil, that we can control with our whole hand, and not just our fingers. I've gotten really good at taking typos in context, and understanding what people are saying. It's just like those word scramble activities we used to do in school. LOL

actually i think most of us here is so used to some that cant spell (including myself at times)and some that are just learning english that usually if we enjoy mylot we can figure it out and overlook such things. i know a while back, just before xmas, i had made a discussion where in the title i spelled Christmas wrong i read over it before i posted it but forgot to read over the title still everyone was understanding and i got lots of responses. thats whats great about mylot isnt it? whats not great is them not letting you re-edit those mistakes..lol!

I’ve made silly typos and spelling errors many times and of course I haven’t realised until my post has gone through which is too late! Many times I have had to add a comment apologising for my error and I feel bad but when other people make mistakes I don’t notice it or let it bother me half as much! I would not worry about it Hatley.

I believe that you know how to spell. You are human just like the rest of us and we all make mistakes. What is funny is that I've gotten so used to seeing typos here there and everywhere that I am able to read along with it and figure out the word that someone intended to use. I also feel that it is more regular to find typos on the mylot platform than the majority of other places that I play for the simple fact that we aren't able to edit our posts after we've made them.
